Seen from Europe, the old days gas-guzzlers cars were not just cars, they were the symbol of the United States when it was still "America". Both these cars and the American dream have unfortunately shrunk since. The new "big cars" (SUV) are just big and ugly, they've lost elegance and style.

I'd take any one of these land yachts today. My best friend had a 79 Riviera and it's power windows were faster than any I have ever seen to this day. I loved how soft and comfortable the seats were in these 70s luxury cars.

For the record, the Seville was not an answer to the 1973 oil crisis, but to the increasing popularity of smaller and more exclusive European cars like Mercedes-Benz. It's development was well underway before the oil crisis...after all, lead times are long in the automotive industry. Bringing an all-new car from conception to market in two years is simply not possible even if they did begin with an existing platform.
There's also no way that one of those which is based on the four-door Nova platform weighs 4600 lbs

Wow, this guy is doing great with English as his second language. "Broh-um." "Tornado." "Mark VEE." That being said, I had a 1981 Riv, and it was beautiful car (though too front heavy, and some poor workmanship, IMHO).
I once owned a 1979 Rivera. I really loved that car before, like you mentioned, the poor workmanship took its toll. Did you notice that the narrator in this video mentioned the "digital trip meter" in the Riv while the camera panned down from the digital clock? 😆

The New Yorker Brougham (As in CHRome) also had 4 wheel brakes. Lincoln Mark 5, V=5 in the Roman numeric system. The Stutz Caddy engine displaced 425 cid (7 Litres) it made 180hp. Oldsmobile TORoNADo, NAD as ROD.

The first front wheel drive car by GM,was the 1966 Olds Tornado,then came the Eldorado in 1967. The 79 Riviera was not the first.This guy needs to do some better research and pronounciation.

Mark 5, not Mark "V". The Mark 4, Mark 3 and Mark 2 preceeded it. Lincoln continued the Mark series well into the 1980s with the Mark 6, Mark 7 and Mark 8.

I've owned a '79 Lincoln Mark V (Five), and of the 8 Lincolns I've had over the past 30 years, the Mark V was probably my favorite. Most comfortable and luxurious ride ever...

The Toronado was always front wheel drive (dating back to 1966 I believe). The Riviera went FWD sometime in the 60s also.
In 66 Olds division of GM wanted to rival the Rivi, so they came up with a very state out the art version which had a complex chain driven front wheel drive system. It was called the TORO NA DO. NOT TORNADO. WTF R U SERIOUS. To speak of car culture and butcher the names as such in this video is like wearing a tank top tucked into your jeans headed for the golf course! 😝 E for effort

Sir, a good video, but a couple of things for the future. The Mark, is a Mark 5, the V is taken from Roman numerals as the number 5. The Tornado, the A is pronounced as ah no a an A. The Eldorado you showed is a 1977-78. You made it sound like it was the downsized 1979 which would have been your second most expensive car at over 14 thousand to start. Keep up the great work.

This was suggested to me. Way too many errors for me to even finish it. It looks like it was done in Europe. They show some right hand drive cars. I stopped it after the "1979" Eldorado debacle. Yuck.

At 3:01 into this particular video, I must say this Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham sedan 🚗 is my favourite, Wow just beautiful. The colour is I believe autumn maple. Number 7 in the list as the most expensive American cars from the 1970s. I would certainly love to own such a wonderful classic car as this today in 2021.

To this day, I look back with fond memories of my 1978 Lincoln Continental Mark V, as one of my two favorite cars. The other was my 1962 Cadillac 62 Coupe. Both were a joy to drive. By the way, I owned them both in the 1990s ... I was only a kid when the Cadillac was new!

These are NOT the 10 most expensive cars of the 70s...by a longshot! One example, the '79 Mark Vee (?) Collectors Series stickered at around $23,000. I hate to knock what took some work, but mispronunciations of classic 70s terms, factual errors and omissions and an obvious lack of subject knowledge. Too bad.

I love my classic Caddy. Currently in the process of restoration. Parts are extremely hard to find these days.
IMO # 1 should be a car you can purchase directly from the manufacturers,

My dad had one of the '70s New Yorker Broughams. His dream car. It was a land yacht. I was in my late teens, 6'1", about 220lbs. I could just about fully stretch out on the back seat. It was also the first car I had ever seen w/ a digital dash. I thought it was soooo cool until he let me drive one night. On I95 in VA, doing about 60 in a rainstorm. The dash went nuts, the speedo and all of the gauges started flashing up and down. Fortunately it kept running.
He took it back to the dealer, he had dealt w/ the same salesman for close to 20 yrs. Seems Chrysler sent all of the dashes to production and claimed they didn't have any spares. They had to give dad a loaner for a month while waiting for the part, then another 2 weeks to get a guy in who could reset the mileage on the new dash to match the old.
No vehicles made by Chrysler had a digital dash until the 1981 - '83 Imperial coupes. The only digital item on anything before that was the clock, or 'chronometer'. New Yorker Brougham K-cars from the 80s did have fully digital dashes...

The Mark 3 was a bit smaller, it had a 7.5L V8 producing 365HP and it had the best build quality of them all.
Mark 5 was the biggest and heaviest with the smallest engine 6.6L V8 and with only 180HP.
