the ironic thing is: it IS more likely that there was a lesbian restaurant in the 1950's rather than today as all the lesbian spaces have either disappeared or been colonized by men. Such progress!
I hear you. Part of it is an overemphasis on an "inclusive LGBTQ+ community" (whatever the heck that is) rather than letting gay men and lesbians do their own thing along with whatever bisexuals want to join in. The other half is the internet. People used to have to have gay and lesbian bars to meet each other, but it's much less necessary in the age of dating apps. I'd argue it's still necessary for making friends and building community, but all of us are too lazy and anti-social to make it a priority.
Kind of feels like the men spaces/places have disappeared, too...
Carol is such a masterpiece. So beautiful and fluid and adult in a non sexual way. It was snubbed for best picture and director and Rooney Mara was more of a lead then Cate Blanchette though they are both incredible.
