  • Well thank you ‪@EverySingleSunday‬ for loaning me this amazing machine. Shop everything T7 here: amzn.to/3Eq4Vlk After two weeks in the saddle... Here are my thoughts of this neat machine. The first part of the video is the very first ride and the clips towards the end was my last day on this machine. Overall... it's a great bike. Yamaha will sell tons of them. Riders will love them. It is a Win! Win! in my book. What do you think?

      Oh and just watching your videos has expanded much of what I do and where I go. Not afraid to admit I have stalked your locations and I have slowed and paused your videos for screenshots of streets and intersections and signs on bridges. Thats even how I found your sand test area and yes I ride up the concrete embankment on the side of baseline like you do in your videos. Makes me feel like a kid on a skateboard again. Lmao. Your lytle creek camping video is why I finally explored that area. I had several locations pinned and the day I went I choose a spot I never pinned and just went for it. Come to find out I was exactly where you camped but I didnt realize it until you pointed it out. (Sheep Creek trail) Cleghorn is not much to talk about but I love it cause you can exit the freeway, hit the trail, exit amd take the 138 back to the freeway and go back home without ever stopping. Well just for gas on the DRZ lmao. I really need a bigger tank. Hahahaha

    Great video! I did 10,000km with mine this past summer. Excellent bike. However, I just sold it and will explain why. I am a small guy, 5’5” and 140lbs. I ride solo most of the time and when the bike is loaded with gear for a weekend trip, I can barely pick it up when I drop it offroad. I wasn’t pushing to bike to it’s full potential or challenging myself because of the simple fact that it’s a big bike for someone my size to be adventure riding offroad solo. I’ll be building up a KTM 500 with rally fairing this winter. The on road comfort will be terrible compared to the Tenere but everything is a compromise. If anyone is considering solo rides with an adventure bike in serious offroad, a dual sport might be a better option. If you ride in a group or don’t push it, the Tenere can’t be beat!

      I have the 2013 KTM 500 and love it. Mostly off-road but on the highway I can't really complain. I did put all the dampeners on the handlebar, footpads and upgraded the seat. I do some fairly long stints on the highway and it's not bad. I also have an Africa Twin but don't like taking offload for the same reason as you. If it falls over I'm in trouble. The KTM is an easy pick up. Good luck!

      I have a 2019 KTM 690 and have it setup as a “lightweight” adv bike. T7 a better on-road ride but the 690 100 lbs lighter and I think a better off-road option. Yamaha did a good job with this bike and it will be a top seller.

    This is by far the best review of this bike that I've seen. I think it probably helps that Kyle appears to be the best rider I've seen on this bike.

    • @manybikes
      @manybikes  Před 3 lety +1

      It's a bad ass bike. Not a powerful or as technical as Travis' 790 Adv... but it does most all things well and it seriously the "easiest to ride off-road" of any of the Adv bikes. Smooth, super forgiving... and it just works. You will love it. Thanks for watching! Oh, I sent this to Travis and he laughed ;) - Kyle

    Hey Kyle, great video. Something you casually said struck a chord. I also happen to have a 950 SE-R and an 1190 Adv R that I ride in conditions like you were riding. I was very surprised that the T7 with the Akra pipe sounded a lot like my 950. I've been trying to decide between the T7 and the new 890 Adv R to possibly replace my 950 due to splitting my time between about 1200 feet and 9500 feet and trying to change jetting in that bike is a nightmare. Rode a buddy's T7 last week and was very underwhelmed with the power (I was on my 690 at the time) and suspension compared to any of my KTM's but the lack of MTC and expected reliability are a big appeal . Your thoughts? Set up properly is this a replacement for a 950 Super Enduro? The 890 seems closer on paper. I really need to replace at least 1 of my stable to have space for this.

    • @manybikes
      @manybikes  Před 3 lety

      Greetings fellow SE owner! What a bitchin bike we’ve got. I swear that KTM just needs to re-release the 950 with FI and the rally suspension. It’d be the lightest best performing ADV bike ever made. 10 years ahead of its time... that’s for sure!
      The 890 Adventure R is the only bike that comes close to the 950... but it really lacks the character of the LC8 motor.
      I had on order and really really wanted the Yamaha T7. It’s sexy, the ergos are amazing, the low seat height is helpful, it’s SUPER EASY to ride... BUT it IS SLOW!
      The 890 has acceleration similar to my 1190 - just amazing. Yes... much faster than the 950... but the 890 is way more of a dirt bike than the 1190.
      I’m currently having carb issues with the 950... and FI is all I really want more / different from that bike.
      At this time I think I’d sell my 1190 and 390 to pick up an 890... and I’d keep my SE.
      Crazy eh? It’s still just that good!
      Cheers,
      Kyle Bradshaw

    Thanks for another great video, Kyle.
    Totally off-topic if I may:
    Near the beginning of this video, did I see alot of eucalyptus trees at the top of the on-ramp to the freeway?
    California seems to have planted them everywhere. It’s just my opinion, but I wonder if these oil-rich trees are increasing the intensity of the Californian wildfires (what Aussies call bushfires), and thus increasing the risk to life and property.
    Eucalyptus are dominant in Australia as a native tree, but are an introduced species in the US. So Americans can make a choice to plant trees that don’t burn so fiercely.
    Australians deal with wildfires every summer, but what surprises us are the Californian wildfires in the cooler months.

    • @manybikes
      @manybikes  Před 3 lety

      Interesting observation. Yes, the eucalyptus trees are "planted" because they smell good ;) No consideration to fire was taken I'd imagine... Now... most of our wild fires are due to dry grass not these trees. Very interesting. Thanks for watching!

    Torn between the T7 and Africa twin. I have a drz now and I plan to keep it. The AT would be cool for long long distance riding with a passenger and carrying more gear but the T7 would be better off road

      @manybikes  Před 2 lety +1

    • @manybikes
      @manybikes  Před 3 lety +1

      Man... the 701 is just "that much more dirty" than the T7 that I do not think the T7 will compensate for it UNLESS you ride a lot of fast street. There isn't anywhere the T7 can't go that the 701 will... but it will take a little more work / a little more momentum to get it there. Great set of bikes, that is for sure! I'd way trade the 701 out for a 300 XC-W :) That is probably my next bike... Need to OFF the 390 Duke and one of the big ADV bikes to do it though... Not willing yet.

Higher... and it feels a little unhappy but does it anyway.

Then... it falls ALL THE WAY OVER unlike the 890 which rests on the tank or a GS which falls over to the cylinder. Legit, handlebars in the dirt! I am 5' 9" and wear a 32" inseam pant. *The Negatives*
    After a year or so of research into the Yamaha Tenere 700 I have found one or two major *"flaws" or draw backs:*
    - The Yamaha Tenere 700 is *_top heavy_* & generally too heavy for off road (452 lbs wet), hence the many videos of it falling down more than other adventure bikes.
    - I have heard the Tenere 700 has a "jerky speeding throttle" in the beginning of every gear. That is when you first get into gear you always get a surge at the very start of the clutch engagement. This can get old real quick.
    - Other minor flaws or draw backs pro for the bike don't mention are the fuel cap that comes completely off, the vibrating LED display screen pod, and the NON-LED very floppy turn signals.
    But beside the surging throttle & a few other issues the Tenere 700is good on the road.

    • @manybikes
      @manybikes  Před 3 lety +3

      Thank you for your feedback. I found the T7 to feel light as compared to the Africa Twin or the BMW R1250GS... but about the same as the other bikes in the segment. The throttle issue - I did not experience that at all. The tower vibration is real... and the turn signals are trash. Other than that... The T700 is a WINNER in my book!

      @sweetcostarica Před 3 lety +1

      @@manybikes You and everyone reading 📚 are welcome 😊.
      Of 📝 note with the Yamaha Tenere 700 is that when it falls over because of its weight and top heaviness the Yamaha is harder or impossible for some to pick up. Harder to rise than even a BMW GS 1250 as I just saw 👀 on a CZcams video 📹 from a Swedish rider who bought back his Honda CB 500 to replace the Tenere 700. Another Tenere 700 sold due to it's weight. Just saying.
      God bless 🙏

      @manybikes  Před 3 lety

      Ha! Ha! I have seen the Swed and sent it to a buddy of mine who sold his CB500X Rally Raid bike to get a T7. His bike is on my channel. The T7 is super skinny and falls ALL The Way Over as compared to the GS that lays on its cylinder and the 790 / 890 that fall only over to the saggy boobs gas tank... But is is no heavier and an Africa Twin or KTM 1090 or 1190 is much harder to pick up! Check this out:
      czcams.com/video/K02YEMuO1_k/video.html This was my FIRST ride on a T7... and I got to make my video on How to Pick Up a Yamaha T700 after Crashing...

    • @sweetcostarica
      @sweetcostarica Před 3 lety +1

      @@manybikes Very good 👍 you saw Swed video already. 📹 The other video I saw was from _Johannes Motorcycle Adventures!,_ he also sold his Yamaha Tenere 700 for another bike (a Suzuki 400) due to the weight of the T7.
      Thus, this is a semi-serious issue with the Yamaha T7, it's weight and the top heaviness.
      As people start to use the Tenere 700 they will realize the weight issue and either say:
      The Tenere 700 has to go or they could I'll just deal with it 🤷.
      Since most people are not that skilled off road or even on the street with motorcycles this weight & top heavy T7 is not for a lot of people. Like the Swed, small men and women will not be able to lift the bike if it falls or just be able to pick it up a couple of times. Videos 🎥 on how 🤔 to lift it won't help these folks.
      And the top heavy Yamaha Tenere 700 *_will_* fall sooner or later. I read 📚 an on-line article on the T7 a while back on what a motorcycle industry reviewer reported during on & off road trip from the US 🇺🇸 to South of the boarder. He stated the Yamaha T7 fell down about 7 times, more than other motorcycles he had taken 😳 on this route to test.
      ⚠️ CAUTION
      So this important consumer protection notice is to anyone considering the Tenere 700 as mainy a dirt bike to think about it's weight and top heavy characteristics. Maybe a lighter, smaller adventure bike is better for off road and on road trips.
      The Honda CRF 300, Suzuki 400, KTM 390, and the like could be a better 👍choice. Just putting it out there.
      Enjoy the day *Kyle B.*

    • @manybikes
      @manybikes  Před 2 lety

      Thanks for your comments. The suspension is perfect for gravel / dirt road riding at moderate speeds. If one pushes the bike however, they will find the limits. That is true for most bikes in this segment. The plastics seemed fine to me, or comparable to others. I did drop it, and it was lighter than my 1190, Africa Twin or even my 950 Super Enduro. Now… it does fall “further” over than the others so it could seem “heavier”from the ground to 20% up. Exhaust bracket is an issue. I bent it on my drop. It’s a fantastic bike for the price and has some major benefits over other units.

Also the T7 is built like an absolute tank, and is great on or offroad (based on what I have heard) apparently the 690 doesn't accel at either, and constantly flames out on low speed offroading. Just a heavier rear spring did wonders for the bike, cant wait for a kit with 35mm piston (OEM 20mm).

    Great review! You’re an awesome rider. How would this bike cruise on the Highway, say at 80-90 mph? Would it be high in the rev range to get to that speed?

      For Sure! I'd like the SAME SIZE bike as the T7 but would like it to be 400 lbs with a 900cc motor that puts out 150 hp. Dreaming I know... my Super Enduro is 950cc weighs 425 wet and has 107 hp.... but a T9 is a dream bike!

    Great video! I'm amazed at how many people mis-pronounce Tenere... like rhyming with the word Canary. But the proper pronunciation needs to be more French. LOL. I hate to sound like an English major but it sounds much better with the accent over the first syllable. Or even the last syllable. Sorry for being a jerk. But I own one and just my two cents 😁

      I tested both and as a 690 owner I can say T700 although simpler, not to say spartan motorbike, feels somehow more refined than 890 ADV R which I rode. Engine sound, gearbox, rider friendliness seems to be at the different level with T700. 890 on the other way shines off-road. But it’s almost +50% price wise though not 50% better bike. And one more thing. Cost of running KTM along with poor reliability since 2006ish make it not very good value for money. My 2019 690 had the engine oil leak and gear lever rod leak with only 300 km on the clock (yes three hundred kilometers) thanks to the poor engine surface finish. Sorted by the service with “professional” silicone bedding for the new engine seal. With Chinese KTM factory I really doubt the quality will be any better now. Honestly …not much left from the orange legend. Having this in mind the longest safe adventure you can make on the KTM now, is within the reach of the dealer’s service truck.
