  • Is there room on CZcams for 1 more video about this classic watch?
    The Casio F-91w is not only the worlds best selling and most famous watch, making a big comeback via the mod community, EDC and the love of all things retro. BUT I would be willing to bet that its the watch with the most CZcams videos!
    It costs $10 so its a cheap watch to buy, modify, smash, drown, paint or just wear and make a video... Hell I did it!

    I feel like the fact that people are fuckin' around and slappin' NATO straps and what not on 'em is a good thing, strong modding communities help build longevity for a product, keeps it interesting at the very least. and while you think it is ugly, it does keep a classic from being discontinued and forgotten.

      I have no issues with modding or NATO straps - modding these and others is great. But you don’t need to put a NATO strap on this watch for it to keep selling. And it does look fugly

      @@Tim2pointohno you have to install a good leather strap to it 😁 Taste is always subjective. I like the look in original shape and with different straps - including NATO straps. Because the price is ridiculously low for such a nice watch I personally like to see it used with different applications and mods. In my opinion a hand made leather bund strap most likely has been only mix which was aesthetically just ridiculous. For electronic mods the price is nice to start mod training, but of course nowadays there are lots of cheap electronic DIY kits available.

    Primary reason I can think of is the f91w is used by British Army due to its ruggedness and durability. The NATO provides a higher security of not losing the watch as well. Therefore it is a cheap way to have a field watch.

    You hate NATO straps cause you probably been seeing a lot of bad examples. If the hooded plastic lugs are filed down a the proper 18 mm with a matching dial/case colour is chosen NATO looks better than the cheap plastic band. And I totally understand the benefits and appreciate they can also look very smart indeed. But you are 100% right, I have seen some shocking examples and I hate seeing a digital with wide tapered lugs simply stuck on a NATO a fraction of the width and it being called a “mod” or worse “upgrade”...

    I'm about to put a NATO strap on my W86. Why? Because, after a year of using it for racquet sports, the tip of the buckle tongue has snapped off. I part paid for the watch with Nectar points, meaning it cost me £12. From a cost perspective, the watch is a write off, since a new strap will cost me at least £10. Whilst the original strap is designed for the watch, I'll be replacing it again in a year, so I will buy a black 18mm NATO strap with a steel buckle instead.
    What I'd actually like is for Casio to put a metal buckle on the watch and charge an extra quid to prevent this wastage.
    As far as putting NATO straps on these watches for the hell of it goes, yes I think it's a daft idea.

    For NATO straps, I had to order two F-84W's from Japan. F-91W doesn't look cool on it due to the lug construction, the proper installation would require an adapter, as with most G-Shocks. F-84W, on the other hand, has much more traditional lugs perfectly suitable for 18mm NATO strap.
    Why? Because not everyone likes this resin or metal caseback constantly contacting their skin. Also, resin straps are prone to degradation and breaking, which can never happen on a nylon NATO which can also be interchanged much easier.

      I don’t disagree with you at all, but the strap doesn’t suit this in my opinion

    100% NATO straps are hidious. Take the worlds most "Walmarty" watch, and make it even cheaper looking by adding a seatbelt. Abhorrent.

    You're completely right! NATO strap looks awful on this iconic watch! Only resin strap nothing else! 👍⌚🔥

    What about the metal straps mod? Do you approve?

    • @Tim2pointoh
      @Tim2pointoh  Před 3 lety

      Yes - infact I've seen a mod with an inverted display that I really want to make.
      My issue with the Nato straps is they look odd.

      The issue I’ve had with metal straps/bracelets is that they pinch and pull arm hair (though they look the best).
      I love the stock plastic/resin strap.
      You can heat them up with a hair dryer to mold them exactly to your wrist, then run under cold water to set. Perfect fit, lightweight. ;)

  • @GinsuSher
    @GinsuSher Před rokem +1

    Why ? because the stock straps are too short.
    Your opinion is rubbish. But hey, that's jsut my opinion.

      My opinion is my opinion. Opinions can’t be rubbish - that makes no sense. And your reason for using a nato is 100% valid - but doesn’t stop them looking shit on this watch.
