    The Godskin Apostle in the Divine Tower has gotta be my favourite non-Remembrance fight in Elden Ring. The build-up of finding a way to climb up and inside before descending down deeper and deeper inside the tower. A feeling of dread building as I encounter the enemies, feeling like I don't belong, like this area is profane and cursed. Then finally reaching the boss, realising that this is the guy from the leaked concept art, hype finally realised. Hearing the amazing music, and a great fight on top. By far one of the highlights in the whole game for me.

    For me personally the bell bearing hunters are the my most favorite ones behind Crucible Knights. But the one in Caelid is the hardest. On my recent playthrough getting ready for the DLC and learning to parry I still haven't beaten him. His force attack gets me every single time.

    Dragonbarrow can be a brutal area for midgame. I usually split it up on my playthroughs, and save the tougher fights like Black Blade Kindred and the Godskin Apostle for when I reach the Mountaintops. Even then I feel like I’m perfectly leveled for the fights. Hell the Kindred in the Forbidden Lands is easier than the one in Dragonbarrow

  • @auburnkeyblade2491

    I find the Cleanrot Duo a bizarre choice of boss considering that, not too far away from the cave, is the Swamp of Aeonia, where there are Cleanrot Knights regularly patrolling. I just can't respect them as a proper boss because of it.
    Godskin Apostle is a fun boss, easily one of my favorites

  • @withainsley
    @withainsley Před 16 dny

    Divine tower Apostle is one of my favorite fights on the game. And the difference between that one and the Atlis one really highlights how easily a mismatch in scaling can ruin a fight

  • @themuffinprincesa21

    To help with the abandoned cave either:
    1) have a weapon with quick step to get through the rot instantly
    2) when you jump in, turn around and tap your back step. It works the same as quick step but just a bit slower.
    Without those though, what a nightmare of a layout for no reason :(
    Edit: you also get the crystal ashes in the cave with the 3 crystalians. This is GREAT for mages as the summon never loses the hyper armor like the enemy does

    Lack of proper legacy dungeon helps to balance the boss quality since there's not that one major boss that is cooler and leagues better than anything else

  • @ShinxBOOM247
    @ShinxBOOM247 Před 16 dny +4

    Dragonbarrow confuses me from a difficulty design perspective. It's weirdly scaled to the same level as end game areas (smack dab in between Faraam Azula and the Consecrated Snowfield), which is a large part for why there are so many stupidly good resources found there (somber 8 and 9, Greyoll droppoing an absurd amount of runes, etc.) It really feels like they only scaled it that high so that Guranq would be really difficult without considering how it's literally a short jump away from the rest of Caelid, which is half as difficult scaling wise... really confuses me, is all

    • @ShinxBOOM247
      @ShinxBOOM247 Před 16 dny

      Hell, going off of the scaling params, Guranq in Dragonbarrow is HARDER than he is in Faraam Azula which... is just incredibly stupid, not gonna lie

    • @lordptk4115
      @lordptk4115 Před 16 dny +1

      What's even more odd is, that they expect you to explore the place at the late-early/early-midgame level, since Fort Faroth houses the dectus medallion, which is on of the ways to enter the Altus Plateau. Radagons Soreseal is another example of weird loot, since it is the endgame variant of the Scarseal, but is significantly easier to obtain, compared to killing the Ancient Hero of Zamor (Marikas Soreseal found in the Haligtree, which makes much more sense to me). I guess they wanted to give you a late game area to dip your feet in if you are daring, which is quite doable actually, since the enemy density is very low; most can easily be avoided. It honestly gave me a really cool sense of "oh this isn't allowed/intended, but I am going to explore further" vibes.

    • @nayyarrashid4661
      @nayyarrashid4661 Před 16 dny

      That's what I did as well but I farmed those irregular militia enemies after getting the gold scarab which was a struggle in itself since I only had a limited amount of preserving boluses and I didn't want to use those without making it to the boss fight. So once I got comfortable with the lay out I used those and got the gold scarab. Then I got to level 60 or around there which is a pretty reasonable level for a melee build for that area. I was able to pre nerf Radahan running and dodging and summoning. But the rest of the enemies like those birds and dogs I ran past those after fighting a couple of those.

      My hypothesis is that the giant structure beneath Gurranq was originally planned to contain another post-Mountaintops legacy dungeon with Maliketh at the bottom, but then of course they ran out of time again. Reasons why I believe this:
      1. The final boss rush always felt a little odd to me, as if they'd finished the boss battles but ran out of time to give them locations.
      2. Any other building in the game has an interior. The only other exception were the collosseums at release, but they were also intended to house something and eventually got that with a patch, leaving just the Gurranq building. And it's quite a landmark, it's very prominent on the map, you'd just expect something to be there.
      3. All other major legacy dungeons have a thematically fitting boss, only Farum Azula has Maliketh for some reason. Placidusax would be the obvious choice, as would Maliketh in the Gurranq building. They're even both at the end of Farum Azula, both accessed from the last site of grace, and it's the only legacy dungeon with a secret remembrance boss. Coincidence? I think Placcy was relegated to secret boss to make place for Maliketh here.
      4. There are 9 smithing & somber bell bearings in the game, mostly spread out far and wide over the game--until you reach Farum Azula, where there are suddenly 3 of them crammed together in one place, again as if they suddenly ran out of places to put them.
      5. Dragonbarrow just so happens to be just one level above Farum Azula in terms of enemy scaling.
      ...I think I'd thought of even more reasons, but these were some of the most important ones off the top of my head. Of course I could be completely wrong about this, but I do think there are quite a few things adding up here.

    • @shslmahoushoujo
      @shslmahoushoujo Před 15 dny

      @@docstrangelove1347 I also think that, if you consider the possibility that Farum Azula could have used to be roughly where Radahn's arena now stands (would explain the Farum Greatbridge being where it is, if you ask me) and the general strangeness of Maliketh being in both places at once, I could definitely see Placidusax being the OG boss for Farum Azula, and the center of time being a more important location allowing you to find the way to open the road to Destined Death proper that you'd imagine would be why Gurranq holds down the fort even now.

    While I like the Dragonbarrow‘s atmosphere it is sad that the bosses are just reused assets with some stats on top. Come on, not a single badass unique dragon fight? That is a crime.
    Fortunately their stats make them fun and challenging to fight regardless but it does make the area seem rushed. Another saving grace that distinguishes the area is that it can be reached early to cheese runes which helps „boss rush“ playthroughs a lot.
