I finally got Joel as an Ally in the No Return mode in a Holdout and after it was ending, I just looked at him like "SAY SOMETHING. ANYTHING." ... and he said "Alright".
It would be cool if at the beginning of the game there was such a hidden ending, in the style of Far Cry 5.

Joel was already dead by the time Ellie showed up. If Abby didn’t land the final blow and listen to Ellie’s plead to let him go, then he would have spent hours in agony slowly fading away.

This was originally part of the game's story, where Ellie would travel to california and find the lost ancient dagger of time, and travel back to the fateful night of joels death.
But ubisoft said no..

Why would you want to save him at that point? When he was laying on the floor in the cutscene you could tell there was no hope of him recovering from that.
Elli had to shoot abby right away and kill her and then run out again then everybody would have chased elli then Joel would have survived
I wish we had a way to save him like I know Joel’s death is inevitable but at least naughty dog could’ve gave us control of Joel and more playability with him.😢

Don't forget that Joel was lying down like that before Abby finished him off in front of Ellie. Without the finish off, I think he has a chance - he's just severely injured

tiny mistakes video recommendation: in Abby’s half on Seattle day 1 when they’re fighting the seraphites you can shoot other WLF in the truck on the gate. They don’t have collision so they won’t be damaged by the shots.
Anything is better than being forced to play as Abby.

People hated Joel’s death so much that this was made I got what they were trying to do with the story even with the way it played out I wanted a little more hints for it the only thing is Joel telling Tommy and Abby saying she’s “hunting” someone I think all this is good for set up tho Ellie and Dina was story added on witch is great but the way it played out works better for a TV show
