    Just came across of this. I built one like this when I started my channel. Used similar materials. Worked great. 👊

    Spray foam insulation inside the tube for reinforcement. Also that rod is going to rust very fast. Good thing you paint the outside. Maybe paint it again with flexcoat.

    I love how you drive your kayak around in traffic by simply attaching a car to the bottom of it.

    I use that 8' pole for my shallow-water anchor. Put two wooden dowels inside that are 5/8" in diameter to keep it strong and from bending.

    Thanks for the help. I sewed one up a little bigger for my Hobie Outback. Made it out of a 6x8’ medium weight tarp. I was able to salvage the grommet and sew them to it. Total material cost about $11. Works great. Thinking about a bimini or umbrella mount next. It is hot in Texas, but the bass are big.

    • @FlyingFish_TV
      @FlyingFish_TV  Před 5 lety +1

      Nice job. I get torched regularly but I have a feeling I would get super tangled with a Bimini

    • @brianna157
      @brianna157 Před 5 lety

      Agreed. I have decided to go with an umbrella mount. I can get golf umbrellas for $5 at Home Depot, making them disposable. Being able to reef the shade quickly from the kayak is probably critical when winds develop over water.

    Got the 2 man with amas trampolines and sail. Sail is very nice if the winds pick up as you can tack your way in. Got caught in some offshore 30-40 mph gusts out of nowhere in olowalu when we first got it. Pulling 14 knots with 1/4 sail. My brother was out on the ama holding it down but still out of the water half the time. Had to hold the rudder control with both hands just to keep her heading into the wind somewhat.

    • @FlyingFish_TV
      @FlyingFish_TV  Před 5 lety +1

      That sounds like an adventure. I don’t know that I have been out in winds that high, maybe a gust to 40. Glad you guys made it in okay.

    Having the option of adjusting the amount of sail is key. I can see your issue with the small yak and no amas. Have seen some diy options though. I have been wanting to get a single man so I can go when I want to go as the 2 man with amas is quite heavy, especially with wave surge and bag full of fish.

    • @FlyingFish_TV
      @FlyingFish_TV  Před 5 lety

      All or nothing in this set up. As long as the wind isn’t more than 15 knots that full sail is okay. Landing with a fish bag full of fish and water can easily flip you.

  • @Maui918
    @Maui918 Před 5 lety +2

    Don't use steel garden stake pipe, gonna rust real bad. Better off trying to source aluminum pipe, if can't find blank aluminum look for pool cleaning poles

    • @phil2537
      @phil2537 Před 5 lety +1

      so this was the same thing I was thinking. The cheap metal used for the tree stakes won't last long. If you can't find aluminum get some electrical conduit from City Mill or Home Depot and plan on replacing when it gets too corroded. Painting and filling with expanding foam may help prevent corrosion and help with making it float if it ever finds a way to go overboard. Good video and good luck with your new sail.

    • @FlyingFish_TV
      @FlyingFish_TV  Před 5 lety +1

      I coated the inside of the shaft with two part epoxy. I agree that aluminum would be a lot better.

    You have some new real estate now put your logo on the sail. It would be wise since you are building a brand. And since, you know, you can sew . Yellow lettering. would look good. Pittsburg Pirates, Arrg!
