Looks like a real mix n match team. With a lot of change, the experience of Faf at 9 could be crucial. I really hope Am comes back from injury to form in internationals.
- Marx and Kwagga might miss the test due to injury - Wiese banned for 8 matches so he misses the Ireland series - Wouldn't be surprised if this was Mapimpi's last year playing for the Boks
Like your team selection, nice. Really would like to Sesia Masuku .This man is a gem for SA rugby as n 10 that actually can kick. Need to be shaped by Rassie thou to fit in Bok meta.
You could play Edwill at 11 or 14 to see what players can do at this level. This type of game is for that purpose. Playing it safe makes no sense as it does not count against our record. If Tshituka is available, I would try out his brother at 7 and Ethan at 12 or 13. My biggest issue is that this is an ageing squad that might not make the next World Cup due to injuries alone. Take the Sharks' Springboks players for this season; almost all of them have had injuries or niggles during this season, so three years from now it might be worse.
We can all speculate but the Boks will line up as Rassie and his management team see fit according to their plan and the opposition. They may not always be the best people (as others think are the best) but they will be the right people.
Given some of the comments pointing out injuries, hoping to see your revised listing next week. Think there is a massive opportunity here to give some hungry in form guys a crack at the Welsh. After the 6 nations Wales will be looking to make a statement, and Springboks are missing that experience that won them 2 WCs. My gut feeling is Rassie will go with either a 6:2 or a 4:4 split. He'll either want to blood new forwards to have replacement options for Siya, Kwagga, Weise, PSDT, or he'll use this game to really test out the new back and centre options.
I’d bet my life that a 4:4 split will never even considered for the Springboks for the rest of time. I don’t know why you would even consider that, makes no sense at all.
It's pretty unlikely that the Stormers will make it beyond the quarters, so I suspect that we will have players from the Stormers available. In that case I think that Malherbe, Roos and Libbok basically all slot in. However, I would rather have Williams and Masuku at halfback. Nohamba is a very talented player, but I think he could bring a huge amount of impact off the bench. I would also go for a 6-2 split. I'm not sold on Jordan Hendrikse. Good player, but for me he isn't ready for international rugby. I'd rather have Lood de Jager as the lock on the bench.
Imagine starting Horn over Fassie , especially this season lol be serious. also Siya Masuku will definitely be taking the majority of the 1st receiver balls from whichever 9 that starts.
Vincent Tshituka can cover lock also (but wouldn't mind seeing Corne Rahl given a chance). I'd have Fassi at fullback, we haven't seen him in his preferred position for the Boks before, and Williams at 9 (but Nohamba has earned a chance too, so either or)
We are blessed with many young players who can start their test careers against Wales, but unfortunately everyone cannot be picked. Hope those who doesn't make it get their opportunities soon.
Ignoring JC Pretorius is somewhat of a blunder. He steals! Also Swampie's story would be for the record books, imagine coming straight from VC to Green and Gold!
@jameswyatt4443 It would be for the record books because there's no other player who would've come directly from the varsity cup, straight to the Springboks. The kid doesn't even have URC experience
I think that you are missing the fact that there are no warmup games before the Irish series other than this. I think you will not find any new players in this match - that is what the Portugal game is for. Rassie will pick the team made up of players that he has been working with over the last 6 seasons and as close as possible to the one that will play against the Irish.
I Think its important to look at the form of Marx and lood, then I'll give Hooker a go at 12 even though it will probably take a another 2 years before he wins his second cap. If Am is back we need to give him game time since we know what we have in Jessie. Guys like Faf, kolbe, Eben and PSTD are world class and don't need game time before the big Irish series i believe. I will experiment with the following team. 1 OX 2 Marx 3 koch 4 Lood 5 Mostert 6 Kwagga 7 Tshituka 8 Pepsi 9 Grant 10 Siya 11 Mapimpi 12 Hooker 13 Kriel / Am 14 Van der Merwe 15 Q Horn 16 Bongi 17 Mchunu 18 Sampie 19 F Horne 20 Pretorius 21 Nohamba 22 Jordan Hendricks 23 Fassi Game plan: fast paced attacking if the weather allows it.
This looks like a side that will face Ireland - Travelling to London to play wales will consist of a very different team, Definitely less world cup winners
I will be very disappointed if Rassie doesn't take Mohambe at 6 and Masuku at 10. Hulle gaan gatskop met hulle speed. I think such a combo will fit the new scrum rules very well.
rassie would NEVER give that much debuts in one match . He’ll definitely go for more experience 1.ox nche 2.bongi mbonambi 3.vincent koch 4.eben edzbeth 5.franco Moestert 6.( haven’t figured out who should start at 6 , maybe Frankie horn) 7.Pieter step du toit 8.kwaaga smith 9.faf de klerk 10.siya masuku ( debut) 11.makazoli mapimpi 12.Damian De Allende 13.Lukhanyo Am 14.Jessie Kriel 15.Cheslin Kolbe
How you saying Jordan Hendrikse at 12 and hooker at wing but both have never played those positions, ever. And you know they also have Hanro Jacobs and Ntlabakanye in the squads so why would you chose Swiegers whose been destroyed this weekend by stormers 4th choice prop.
South Africans go on and on about abundant talent non stop… and according to them no mater who lines up against Wales will be “best in world” since SA are “greatest”
Wales have given us tough opposition in World Cups, they play a similar style to us. Rassie wont make big numbers of changes because then he doesnt learn anything. New players must blend into the system, otherwise they'll be useless going forward. I predict 2 or at most 3 new caps. Maybe a forward and 2 backs?
The Lions have played well this year, but their players are not at a test level. Quan Horn would get eaten alive. Their loose forwards as well. These players are maxing out their ability right now, they can’t do any better, test rugby is too high a level for them to be effective, we’d look like the Alistair Coetzee days again. The Sharks players although they have been inconsistent have the complete makings of test match quality players. The right sizes and builds, and even talent wise their potential is just so much higher. The likes of Agassi, Tshituka, Pepsi, etc. The only Lions player that should make the squad is Nohamba. No one else should be anywhere near a test match.
You guys don't think out of the box, why on earth would Rassie pick normal starters for this game, when are u going to blend in new players, come on guys, there's a worldcup in 2027
You mention ethan hooker who plays centre and not Werner Kok who is the most inform winger in the country. Cmon mate. 9 10 lions half back would work better. Siya has 1 season of prof rugby. Stop bending over for him😂.
wiese trying to end his career.....he never played at the world cup so why make him the incumbant for duane.....mone on to someone else who deserves it more
Sharks, sharks, sharks.. the worst team in SA. Sorry, out of the entire sharks team, I would only consider Masuku. The rest have looked mediocre at best. Including Eben.

What about Lood de Jager? He is must, at the very least for the bench.
no way Sous starts ahead of Lood in this one at lock.
@@alexwagener4677lood de Hager is lethal at lineouts

@dewald.. fully agree with you. Would love to see the young bucks getting a start. Would love to see Evan in green and gold.
Edwill is a excellent prospect
Nice clinical analysis of the current setup, given availability and performance!
we already know what etzebeth can do why not try out someone younger
Agreed
That makes sense but I would think that he’s trying to win the first one to remove a bit of pressure! Then maybe experiment in the 2nd
Corne Rahl looks a real talent!
Rassie will probably play Lood at 5 with Sous moving to 6 and Kwagga at 8. Also Grant is mos def starting this game.
Surely you can't ice out Nohamba after the season he's had? ?
@@Kappulet Lions are still in the URC playoff race. Did not consider any of their players.
We can all speculate but the Boks will line up as Rassie and his management team see fit according to their plan and the opposition. They may not always be the best people (as others think are the best) but they will be the right people.
I read an article that PSDT has been playing 8 for his Japanese club. That could open up some interesting options.
With Weise banned could be an option !
He is playing the 8
I'm excited to watch this game at Twickenham.
Grant is starting this game.... R1000 bet on that
absoliutely...
I think nohambah at 9
facts
I hope so he deserves more minutes
I see that bet and raise you by R100000000000

From Wales performance at the 2023 RWC we can host one of local teams against them and it won't be a problem!
Nah they played Argies who almost beat England is 3rd place
As a Welshman this comment makes me look forward to the game even more.
Overlook us at your peril

Great team!
Imagine starting Horn over Fassie , especially this season lol be serious. also Siya Masuku will definitely be taking the majority of the 1st receiver balls from whichever 9 that starts.

Lions are not necessarily out of the running for the URC...
Honestly believe that the Lions will play in the Semi Final and Final of the URC...
I think it is quite a reasonable team. Should be quite competitive.
Jy like Jordan neh👀
But ja excited to see what the new players will do in the bok setting

Wouldn't be released
Hanro Liebenberg at Leicester to replace Duane for Ireland series??
Pity Benhard just got injured, would have like to see him run out! England will probably call him up
