When GTA 5 first came out in 2013, it was an instant blockbuster. It made a whopping $800 million on the first day alone. That's like selling millions of copies within hours of hitting the shelves. In just three days, it hit the $1 billion mark. This kind of success was unheard of at the time for any entertainment product, not just video games.
Even after the initial release buzz, GTA 5 kept selling like hotcakes. It didn't just drop off after a few months. Over the years, it continued to be popular, thanks to its engaging story, huge open world, and fun gameplay. By 2021, it had sold over 140 million copies worldwide.
One of the biggest reasons for its long-term financial success is GTA Online. This is the multiplayer mode where you can play with friends or random players, doing missions, races, heists, and more. Rockstar Games, the company behind GTA 5, kept releasing new content for GTA Online, like new missions, vehicles, and events. This kept players coming back and spending money on in-game purchases, which added to the overall revenue.
Rockstar also re-released GTA 5 for newer consoles like the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and later for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Each re-release brought in more sales as new players joined in and existing players upgraded to the latest version for better graphics and performance. - Hry
Offline part needs more to do. Thing about all this online stuff they will turn it off.
Once the board of directors at Take Two Entertainment and Rockstar North seen the money printer that was GTA Online they never looked back. After seeing several high profile individuals within Rockstar Games leave due to creative differences it is clear as day why they left. If anyone think GTA V's micro-transaction's and pay to play was bad wait until GTA VI is released. At least GTA V was made with the story as its main focus. GTA VI will be made with online as the focus.
It's ironic that the GTA series has devolved into the very thing they would parody for years.
This is what Naughty Dog meant ...if they went online live service...all 1player games energy would've gotten swallowed up to keep up the live service..Rockstar went from multiple great games to gta online only...they neglected RDR2...why gamble on it when gta v was a sure thing.
They might as well save these DLCs up for GTA 6 now. IF they don’t do the same for 6’s Online version.

Well i wouldn't be surprised after gta 5 online grows rockstar thought rather then make a full dlc for gta 5 they make some kinda hybrid dlc to just to satisfy some people and get many player return to the online and people pay for sharkcsrds hope GTA 6 to be good because if it not rockstar will be under the dirt
What a disgusting company R* has become over the years. Not making Undead Nightmare for RDR2 alone tells y they don’t give a f anymore for their single player games.
