I agree with the previous comments. Clear, patient and thorough. I do ha e a question; would u please send me torque specs and the type of 6mm socket/Allen wrench? Appreciate your videos and help. Blessings to you, Gary
I just finished changing all 4 struts on my 2008 Camry. I could not have done it without your help. Thanks! This video was perfect. No hidden surprises.
Your video helped me changed the rear struts on my 2008 Toyota Avalon. Im back hear because its time to change my front struts. This video helped save me hundreds of dollars from local mechanic shops. Thank you so much.
jimthecarguy I was hoping you could give me the torque specs for the 2 19mm bolts that connect the strut to the wheel hub assembly for a 2002 Toyota Camry LE 2.4l
Thanks a ton Jim. You have a pleasant speaking voice and easy to understand way of explaining things. Just watching this one last time as I head out to the garage to change 4 struts for my daughter's project Camry, her 1st car.
All the little helpful hints were great, such as putting a nut BACK on ( slightly ) Before you start banging on it to slide out---so as to Not mushroom the end...Other strut videos the guys are hammering on the ends like crazy ! Jim was fortunate to have a LIFT, instead of working on the ground with a jack & stands, so he was able to use his HIP to install the lower strut bolts 1st, then reach up to get the top one started. Love the tip using a Big screwdriver to loosen the back seat hooks & keeping the integrity of the seat frame intact ( instead of bent ). These videos aren't worth a damn if those nuggets of gold aren't exposed for DIY'ers---thanks Jim for saving people loads of anger & frustration---over the hang-ups & pitfalls people encounter trying to save their hard earned money & do it themselves.
Jim, thank you for your thorough, detailed video. After watching your video I was able to successfully change all four struts on my 2007 Avalon, great work on your video!
Jim, thanks so much for making these videos to help out the DIYers. The truth is you can teach an old dog new tricks provided they are willing to learn. I just previously viewed the Camry video you did on rear sway bar bushings and link for a customer. Your blogs are becoming my number one location for instructional videos. Keep up the good work your providing.
Good point about liking to tighten the 3 nuts up top with a ratchet to get a better feel for the tightness. The mechanic who installed my rears didn't do that. Now 6 months later there's lots of rattling from the rear deck as if the strut is going to fall off. I can actually yank on the coil spring and hear squeaking above it.
Experienced mechanics have tightened SO many nuts & bolts over the years, they go by " feel "---but I'm sure they should be using the proper torque specs---kinda makes me mad that they don't. I don't know how much MORE time it would take---this strut came out/in---much sooner than the hour they charge us for...you'd think they could use a torque wrench just for " anal " sake.
You make that look so easy. I also have a 2000 Toyota Camry LE 4 cylinder that all the struts and shocks need to be replaced. 21 year old struts and shocks. My driver side rear is leaking fluid. They probably all do. The Camry was given to me by my cousin. It was his father's Camry. I'm on a limited income. I have a friend that works at Advance Auto Parts he told me to buy Suncore struts and shocks. So I bought them. I don't know how good they are. Like I said you make that look so easy.
Hey Jim. After seeing this video I have decided to bye my struts and install them myself. I have probably watched your video at least 15 times now and my 2008 Camry is on jack stands buddy! Thanks for your help with the video! Greg from Jackson, Wi.
jimthecarguy thanks Jim for your response on your live stream! I did buy the quick struts! But because I did not have an impact gun it was extremely hard to remove to lower bolt on the strut. I was told to heat up the bolt to try and loosen up the bolt now. Unfortunately I did have to take it to a shop but was charged and extremely low price for them to put on the rear struts. 😉 . This week a good friend on mine has invited me to bring my car to his garage so I can use his air gun on the front struts. Thank you for all of your videos. I am learning a lot. Greg from Jackson,Wi.
jimthecarguy Actually today is about 45 on the F scale and pouring rain. Snows almost gone but up at my camp its 4 feet high and -18 at night. Looking forward to the spring getting tired of winter by now. On to the bug season. LOL
On a job like this I like to start by doing the rear first. Remove the seat and the side bolster before touching anything else to avoid getting the customers upholstery dirty. Great video.
@jimthecarguy this video helped me so much this past weekend for installing new quick struts. Very detailed and explained every step. Thank you so much for making these videos.
Now THAT'S a detailed video. I imagine a 2009 I have wouldn't be too different. Thank you for a the good video and thank you for not having an annoying background music like other videos. LOL. Also a good trick to hold the brake rotor is to lift it with a small jack and keep it there until you are done, this works good for DIY that don't have a large lift.
Thanks for the comprehensive video. With the prices all over the map, who makes a good quality aftermarket strut that would last a few trouble free years?
I found some torque specs. Correct me if I am wrong. Strut to Knuckle bolt: 152-166 ft lbs Sway bar nut: 29 ftlbs Suspension top 3 nuts: (rear) 37 ftlbs (front) 59ftlbs Brake line bolt: I bet 25-30 ftlbs would be good ABS sensor bolt: I bet 25-30 ftlbs would be good
Jim, I would like a little more advice along with this video, regarding an order of operations. I am replacing both front axles, lower control arms, tie rods, and struts on the front. On the back I am replacing the rear struts and rear track arms. This is on a 2008 Lexus ES350, I've got 270,000 miles on the car. A general website with the torque specs would be very helpful, because I don't have an air compressor with an impact. Thank you for your videos and the help they have given me! God bless!
Hay Jim, I really appreciate all your video. I drive the same car and did the brakes yesterday and next want to do the rear struts just like this video. Could you please tell me which struts did u use in this video ??? Thank you soo much Jim. Again your video encouraged me to do the DIY work in the vehicle. Thank you
Thanks for this tutorial. Very well done. I'm going to give this a shot as soon as it gets a little cooler out. I wish you was my shop teacher back when I went to Automotive H.S. . But then you would have to be about 110 now. :) Thanks.
This is great. Thank you for taking the time to film, instruct and upload this. What struts would you recommend for that car? Parts from parts stores are iffy. Sure, you have lifetime warranty but it's for the part not the labor and it's the labor that costs so much.
I just wanted to say thank you, Jim. Your video it was perfectly filmed and accurately described. Thanks for saving me about $800. It only took me three hours.
Best video on CZcams especially the part about securing the front axel. I just did my rear struts. They were difficult to fit in. I had to lift the stabilizer links with a bar to get the studs back in the holes. Could this mean that my rear wheels need a realignment? Going to do the fronts today. Thanks again Jim.
I have a Toyota Venza to do but the problem is I don't like the quick strut brands. The reviews are not great. I would love to use a Monroe or KYB quick strut, but they do not make them for this application. So I am left with replacing the pieces using KYB struts, bellows and hope the mounts are good.
I would think he would have the specs in his head and reveal them to us on this video. I used a wire brush to clean the stabilizer stud and sprayed with oil. Came right off. I also used a small jack to hold and raise the frame to line up the bolt holes. Other that this, good video.
My wife drives a 2008 Toyota Camry XLE V6, used for a mix of local and highway driving in the Phoenix, AZ valley. She drives an average of up to about 18,000 miles per year. How long should she expect these Monroe Quick Struts to last, presuming all four are replaced at the same time, and proper front and rear wheel alignments are done promptly? Thank you. Very informative video.
I'm making this comment before I look at the whole video and I'm also not having checked out your entire channel but any possibility you have on this car change the bushings and the rear I'm thinking I might have to do that and I don't know what exactly they're called or if I have to buy a whole different piece or what piece to get
Very Good Video! Very detailed and thorough for all the steps. Do you recommend installing never seize on the main bolts for the struts? ( bottom large bolts)
Thanks for the great video! I never replaced Struts before but with your help I got the fronts replaced in my daughters 2007 Toyota Camry. One thing I did that seemed to really help was to pull the wheels off a few days prior, clean the threads on the stabilizer link with a wire wheel on a dremel and spray them with penetrating oil so 2 days later when I went to remove them, the oil had a chance to seep in and do its magic. One question. at the very end you mentioned that your going to send it out for an alignment. Is an alignment necessary after replacing the front struts? ***update*** found my answer scrolling down to "George Thompson - 2yrs ago"..
I came across your video on struts and am very impressed.I have an 07 that needs them.I was told you have to be careful of the ones from China because the diameter of spring steel is thicker than the original and makes for a stiffer ride.Do you know if there is truth to this?
Is it better to buy OEM part or after market part? a complete OEM strut assembly is very hard to find on the internet, I assume that only car dealers carry them.
Jim, your videos are so well made and so complete and don't miss anything. Thank you for your work.
WORD.
I agree with the previous comments. Clear, patient and thorough.

Jim you rule this medium. You are detailed, fully explain every step, and why, then walk us thru. Keep the good videos coming. A sincere thank you.
Thank you. You are a very good teacher, thorough but concise. I feel like you genuinely want to pass along knowledge to those who seek it.

Your videos are really helpful. Only took me two hours to replace both struts on the front. Thanks for making the videos.
Jim Crocker You did a good job in a short amount of time. Thanks for watching!
Jim, thank you for your thorough, detailed video. After watching your video I was able to successfully change all four struts on my 2007 Avalon, great work on your video!
One of the BEST maintenance videos I’ve seen on CZcams. 👍🏼
Wow, thanks!
Great Job Jim. 3 years later and your video is still useful. Thanks

Thanks for the comprehensive video. With the prices all over the map, who makes a good quality aftermarket strut that would last a few trouble free years?
Thank you for the very clear demonstration of how to do it right.
I found some torque specs. Correct me if I am wrong.
Strut to Knuckle bolt: 152-166 ft lbs
Sway bar nut: 29 ftlbs
Suspension top 3 nuts: (rear) 37 ftlbs (front) 59ftlbs

Another fan of the intro here, it's more of a classic format that you don't see anymore.
+MikeP47 Thank you Mike
Fantastic job,well done!
I'm happy to help. Thanks for watching.
I wish I had seen your video first, the anti seize might've saved me
Many thanks Jim, great explanation.
Glad it was helpful!
What are the torque specs on the top mount nuts for the front and back? Also for the 22mm front bolts and 19mm bolts for the rear?.
This is great. Thank you for taking the time to film, instruct and upload this. What struts would you recommend for that car? Parts from parts stores are iffy. Sure, you have lifetime warranty but it's for the part not the labor and it's the labor that costs so much.

Hey Jim, great video! Would you kindly post the torque specs for a 2008 Toyota Camry Hybrid?
When doing struts, are you suppose to use some type of lube to prevent squeaks? Great video. Very informative.
Great Video. I am looking for torque specs, for 2005 Toyota Avalon rear struts for the 15 MM bottom bolts. Thanks
Best how to video l've seen so far. Do you have to perform an alignment after this type of job?
This Is a great video. Thank you very much for taking the time to make it.

Great video Jim. This is going to be a weekend project for me. What sockets did you use to connect/disconnect the strut from the knuckle?
I'm making this comment before I look at the whole video and I'm also not having checked out your entire channel but any possibility you have on this car change the bushings and the rear I'm thinking I might have to do that and I don't know what exactly they're called or if I have to buy a whole different piece or what piece to get
A great video and process explanation.
Great video, thank you for your time and help.
I like to take a wire wheel or wire brush to the threads on the stabilizer link bolts, makes the bolts come off easier.
Good tip!Thank you for watching
You are awesome for posting this video, thank you!
This is a great video, very well done. Thanks so much for doing this!
Thank you for stopping by the shop.
What sizes are the nuts? I ask because I may not have the right equipment and I'd like to be sure I order the correct wrenches.
Very Good Video! Very detailed and thorough for all the steps. Do you recommend installing never seize on the main bolts for the struts? ( bottom large bolts)
Yes a little never seize is always a good idea.

Sorry I'm not sure I only use the Monroe shocks and struts. You may pay a few dollars more but it is well worth it.
Thank you.
What brand of strut did you use?
''I always use the Monroe struts"
Is it better to buy OEM part or after market part? a complete OEM strut assembly is very hard to find on the internet, I assume that only car dealers carry them.

Hi Jim can you tell me the torque specs for a Toyota Camry 2007 SE V4. Thank you in advance.
