    This is the second video in a row that Eli has had a hand in the direction, so he’s branching out also. (He’s been doing lighting for awhile now, including Geoff’s last video.) Tony Wakim (Layne’s partner at Pattycake and former VoicePlay baritone) has also been helping with the direction. He recently said on Instagram that being “Uncle Tony” to Layne’s little girl was the best role he’d ever have.
    You can hire the best people in the world, but they won’t make you look better than the people that really care about you. I think that’s their secret weapon!

    Adriana has amazing talent already and she's still only 17. You can only imagine how much better she'll become as she hones her craft. She did her first video with VP when she was 14. The guys are not only incredible talents, they have an ear for great talent that will work well with them.

    • @CapriUni
      @CapriUni Před 2 lety +5

      It's been a blast to see Adriana grow up with them. She played Cindy-Lou Who in their cover of "You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch." And then, the next time I saw her (with Cesar in his debut guest appearance), in their cover of "We're Good." I was amazed at how she'd grown from a talented girl to an amazingly talented young woman (makes me feel old, and I'm not even a parent).
      And yes, I'm recommending both those videos for reactions, especially "We're Good."

      she was 15 for her first video, it was her birthday present from them.

    The thing, for me, that always stands out whenever they feature someone in a piece is how well they integrate that person into the group. They don't just "sing the song", the guest doesn't just sing the chorus or the lyrics of the song. They become a total part of the group. Again, for me, that suggests a level of respect for the talents of whomever they're featuring you don't see in a lot of places. Not only a respect for the vocal talent of whomever it is, but of their personality and work ethic, too. They find people to come in and work with them, not just "do a song" with them. I'm sure you all can appreciate the difference, though I know I'm not explaining it overly well.
    The glasses look great, man! Happy you're not as worried, now, about headaches. I'm sorry you're still feeling a bit unwell, here's hoping for a speedy recovery. And, your lack of musical knowledge, more like a lack of musical terminology, jibes with mine, bro. Half the time I don't know what stuff is called, either. I just know what I like and what I don't. I'm sitting over here talking back to the video, like a goose, like we're carrying on a conversation about what we're hearing and you're pointing out the exact things I'm talking about AS I'm talking about them...aaaaaaaand that's why I keep coming back here. Well, that, and the community now. We all share something very special that, unfortunately, not a ton of other people either know or care about. Artists that can convey a message in such an intimate way, using just the human voice, that it directly connects with everyone that hears it. Artists with a talent for true showmanship. People who encompass not just the ability to sing or write music, but to take what others have done in a direction they never envisioned it going and never lose the flavor, tone, or artistry of the original piece. How rare is that? How awesome?
    Fun video, as always, man. See you on the next one!!

    VP covered Dua Lipa's We're Good. This was my intro to both Adriana and Cesar (it was his first feature with them) and it wss AWESOME, blew my mind. I love Ms. Lipa, but VP blew it out of the water...

    I think Adriana's first with them was Frozen. She was about 15 - her parents are friends of Geoff's, so VP checked out her social media and was blown away. She already had incredible chops. Her most recent w/ VP was a year ago - We're Good, which - coincidentally - was one of Cesar's first with them (as a featured singer).

    Another awesome reaction!! If you want to see more of Adriana with VP, she’s in their Frozen 2 medley, You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch, and We’re Good. She also did some mini’s with them - the theme songs for Bob’s Burgers and Stranger Things stand out to me.

    Love that you jump on new releases! Their creativity and innovation are two of the things I love best about VoicePlay. It fascinates me how they enfold every new guest just seamlessly into their sound, until it's like they've all been working together for years. Adriana absolutely nailed (belted?) this one.

    Just like we say that The VP cover of Dream On is a continuation of Warriors, I personally feel this cover a continuation of We're Good. This was also featuring Arianna, with Cesar coming to the group as well. That cover has always seemed very underrated to me.

      You are right. Geoff said that in the BTS video they posted on Patreon yesterday morning. Also got a BTS for "Way Down" from Geoff on Thursday. Even though they need a 5th member (Omar) to tour again, they still give us plenty of ways to interact if a Patreon member. Geoff's Chaturdays (3rd or 4th Saturday of month), livestream with whole band, videoshoot livestream, rotating member, and then livestream with PattyCake Productions. Can't wait to see Nick's reaction to Home Free.

    Not only was Layne behind the camera for Geoff's Way Down video, Eli did the lighting. Their vocals have always been topnotch, but they've been growing by leaps and bounds in more sophisticated arrangements, lighting, and other presentation aspects. Just look at the difference between What's This and Hoist the Colors.
    They're a huge circle of creative friends, as Pattycake, Voiceplay, and Geoff's solo stuff are all mixed. Eli has sung off-camera and done lighting for Pattycake, that's Geoff's wife Kathy in the bathtub (as Lock, Stock, or Barrel; I can't remember which is which) in a Pattycake Villain's Lair video; and Tony Wakim is often involved as co-director or taking care of wardrobe/costumes, as he does in this one.
    Fun side note: they filmed this in an empty store in the same mall as Pattycake. In the BTS, there's a shot of Adriana's mom sweeping the floor ... with the same red broom Geoff danced with in Way Down.

    I hadn't heard the song, but then I'm old and my years of teenage angst are waayy behind me! When I saw this was about to drop I gave the original a listen and thought... I could take it or leave it! Then VoicePlay with the gorgeous and talented Adriana give us this and then I'm thinking... yes please, thank you, I love it! 😊👍
    P.S. I really hope you feel better soon, and I don't mind the new glasses, not the best style but I am very happy to be able to see your highly amusing expressions better! 👓👁👁👌

    Yay for the shout to Pattycake! I sent Tough Love to my kids for Mother's Day. You're right, you can spend the entire reaction lauding any one of these guys and not be wrong. Cesar is an awesome addition, he is so blasted expressive. I've had to turn off the sound and just watch his face to catch all the little asides he does. I am really looking forward to where Adriana is going to be in 5 years, she's so impressive now it's rather mindboggling.

  • @janetdw
    @janetdw Před rokem

    Adrianna is 17 and gave them a list of songs she wanted to do. They chose this one - it was her favorite. I believe she’s been in four videos now with them including this one (plus a few of their minis). She was 15 when she did the Frozen 2 medley. It was a birthday present for her from her dad and VoicePlay. Can you imagine what she will be like in a few years?
    Thank you for mentioning PattyCake productions. They really need more people to give them a shout out. Did you know that Tony Wakim, who used to be the baritone for VoicePlay, designs and sews most of the costumes they use in their productions? All of these people are so insanely versatile and talented. It’s like to come from another planet.

Its been such a hard week for me and there's more ahead as I start the process of getting my hearing assessed thanks to the awareness video Kathy and Geoff put out about it. I saw in the BTS video that Adriana picked this song... and she totally rocked it. In fact, they all did, even though their teenage-angst years are far behind them (as Geoff said). Also love that they mashed it up with the other song. And this (let's just say) older fan had never heard either song before this version... and don't feel the need to look for it either. This is pretty perfect!

    Love your reactions! VP just gets you in the feels every time and their selection of guests is always perfect. Adriana is going places. She sounds better than any singers her age. And older honestly. She's amazing. Layne's business partner at Pattycake is Tony Wakim and he sang with VP for a while too. His voice is amazing and Phantom of the Opera is just wow. The two even write a lot of original song lyrics in addition to the music. Tip on your glasses if you start to have trouble with the temples loosening or breaking because of wearing your headphones--find glasses that have temple pieces that hinge outward a bit. I have Flexon frames because I wear a headset a lot a work and it saves my frames from breaking.

    Ariana was in "We're Good" (Cesar was introduced as a guest in that one) and the "Frozen II Medley" as well. They did some a short with Cesar and Ariana right before Cesar joinged where she hits some crazy notes.... not sure if they're overtone or what, but sounds like it. (and little tip, watch at the end, not sure if it's from the high overtone notes or scripted or whatever, but she gets a nose bleed at the end, you probably wouldn't catch it on first viewing. Was kinda creepy in retrospect. lol)

    After you react to a song, you could go listen to one of the reactors who are music specialists (maybe The Charismatic Voice?) and that would give you some of the musical nomenclature. We DO NOT come to you for that kind of content - we love your natural, humorous reactions - but you might be less frustrated if you knew some of the musical terms you keep searching for. We actually love you the way you are - that's why we subscribe.

    If you follow Peter Barber's reaction and analysis (he's in Santa Fe right now for the summer doing bass opera), his group the Bass Gang (all basses), is putting out several songs. I've heard 3 of them, Mad World, Iris, and yesterday - Centuries. Their productions aren't as polished as VP but their singing is good and it's strange with all basses unusual sound but really excellent. Thought you might enjoy them. Peter falls into the same category as you - one of my top favorites for reaction - he just has the training and education to do analysis on the music too.

    Well done with the name. It's just how it looks :) Actually hadn't heard the original of this. Had to look up the lyrics as the speed made it less clear than their usual songs, I've never had trouble before, always found their diction exceptional but for some reason this one I found difficult, probably my age. However that doesn't take away from their amazing performance. Ignore the nay-sayers my friend. Just smile and nod. The world is full of complainers these days.They want it all, and they want it now. Where have I heard that before? Oh, yes, Queen. Anyway take it from an old lady, smiling and nodding comes in very handy :)
