That feeling of leaping out of a dream job to test yourself is crazy, bravo to James and kudos to the Sorted for keeping the incredible friendship bond feel of a company, balancing profit and corporate bullshit with actually being mates is insane. The proof is if Sorted stopped being these core people it would struggle, which is a compliment!
well here the thing though - there is no peak capitalism corporate bullshit. Its very socialist - the people own the business so the people are taken care of which fosters passion and loyalty etc.
while its a huge step.. he can always come back i guess

Edit: At the begining probably money were important, but as time passed by, there was friendship and all of the silly things that comes with that.
James always felt like his personality rounded out the team, very grounded person, hated to see him go but its always great to see someone stretch their wings.
It was right for James to go and experience new things. He’s always welcome back though 😁

I'm so happy to see this conversation made available for everyone. One of the joys of the live show was seeing James and Kush working together - there seems to be such a positive energy between them in addition to their individual brilliance. It was a real pleasure to find out more about how James got where he is, and what he's doing now, and I loved what he had to say about Kush.

@@theimben their first live? Nah, it's not even the first one of 2024. They did a boxing themed one a couple months ago, they had a winter one in December I think, and many many more before that. They've done live specials for many years
Thank you for sharing this on the channel for those of us unable to get the whole weekend package. It is great that James gets to freelance and set his own pace, doing such great things, and come back to Sorted as a guest we all know and love. Wonderful interview!

As an introvert myself, i really like what James said regarding how he was still able to do a job that required more of a big personality.
Holy shit James is literally the most late-millennial tech-adjacent small business successful guy! Went to school for computer science, pivoted to culinary arts, joined a CZcams channel for cooking, ended up doing tech stuff, also did recipe development, pivoted to on-screen talent, went on to high-end restaurant cooking! Ignoring any past or current pay things (because I don't know and it isn't something that is any of my business), James has had an bonkers success story for this sort of thing that could reasonably be turned into a sponsorship from platforms for advertising!
James always came across to me as grounded, calm and honest. he just really seems like a stellar bloke. The whole sorted team seem like super rad guys. Theyve never let their huge success of sorted change them for the worse. i just think its fantastic that after so many years of doing what they do, theyre all still good mates and good blokes.

When James left I was absolutely gutted and selfishly really mad and didn't want him to go. Now having heard him talk more about why and how it was actually best for everyone I feel so bad! Sorry James we all love you and I'm really happy he's doing so well!

Finding out James loves video games and wanted to be a video game developer came as a huge shock, honestly.

When my niece Grace was three years old, her dad picked her up. She put her little hand on his cheek and said “I love you Daddy, you’re SUCH a good boy!” It was the highest praise she could think of. So now in my family, we say “__is SUCH a good boy!” and it’s the best compliment. After watching this video, I would like to say that all of you are “SUCH good boys!” ❤
OMG I can’t believe some of the comments under this. This is a BRILLIANT episode - admittedly I wasn’t taken by the concept of the podcast when it first started, but I think it’s brilliant, and this episode in particular was really interesting.
It’s been great to see James, catch up on what he’s been up to and learn about his journey to Sorted!

James is a lovely man. He is ambitious without being obnoxious. He's talented, willing to work hard and have fun while he does. I have great respect for him and in general for people with his talents, work ethic and demeanor. Glad he keeps visiting.

I was lost at 23 too. Don’t panic.
I picked something that would support me, and then kept my eyes open. I jumped a bit out of my comfort zone a few times, and made choices along the way that got me into a better fit. No regrets.
Life is a continuous journey of finding yourself and discovering more about yourself. You’re not ever lost, you’re just further down the path.
Personally, I was well into my 30’s and changed jobs after 12 years in one place. Been way more happier in that change. I left a comfortable misery for a new challenge.
Sometimes we feel lost because we’re looking around looking for what we “should” do. It really helped me to think about what I “could” do and pick my favourite one from there 😊
Finding it hard to move out my comfort zone and I definitely need to change this it's affecting what I can do.
You’ll get there! It’s hard, but worth it :)
I would love to see what an hour of food conversation between Kush and James would look like. Not to say Ben wouldn’t contribute to it as well, but I feel like the approach those two take to food is so intriguing that it’s bound to go into interesting directions.

I can so relate to James about cooking at uni - if you’re introverted, being forced into an environment with strangers in shared spaces is such a nightmare. I didn’t cook a single meal there. It’s sad to look back on. Glad to see you’ve come out of your shell to the point you’re on camera and doing interviews! ❤🎉

I like James so much, bc he seems so humble and has the same doubts as all of us have at some point in our careers, but he went for it, to prove himself just for him. This is so courageous. This is very inspiring to hear as a 35 years old person.

Thank you James, for stepping out of your comfort zone to become a Sorted chef. It might not have come natural to you to stand in front of a camera to cook, but you've always been a viewer favorite. From the moment you first appeared on screen people wanted you to show up more often. So even though it 'did not come natural', it definitely came across as charismatically natural to all of us.
Then again, the world loves a cute shy guy who looks quite as yummie as the food he cooks, so I don't think it's much of a surprise you were an immediate hit.
Such a lovely sit down, and I love James' bringing up Kush at the end. We all adore James obviously but yeah I'm literally so happy Kush has gotten to be in move videos lately! Such a lovely way to wrap it up.
The Sorted Food family, feels incomplete without James Currie.. I do think the show is still good, & I enjoy watching it, but it's good to know, James is still going to be there sometimes..
When James said he was leaving. I thought it was going to be the beginning of the end for sorted. So glad it wasn’t.

this has been one of the best interviews and one i have been waiting for. i love finding out not only is james shy but also a gamer. i hope that in the future you all do some cooking games like plateup or overcooked together just to see how ben and james work in a virtual kitchen, or maybe cooking food from games, esp. as more niche cookbooks based on games and anime have become popular.
So comforting to see that James found some peace and satisfaction in such a huge change in his career. Always wished the best for him. So happy to see him still having such a good relationship with the guys. Cant believe its been 3 years!

I am so glad that I happened across you guys a number of years back. I think it was when you first made use of the sous vide process.. really got me interested in making food again. I am sad knowing that we won’t get to see James regularly, but I’m also very happy that he’s happy and that we do get our occasional Currie fix when there are specials like this. Some people need to remember that they're talking about real people and sorted do read the comments. I loved this section of the live! It was great getting to hear James talk more in depth about his time at sorted and reasons for leaving and it was just nice to see them having such a lovely sincere conversation. It was so sweet at the end when James suggested cooking breakfast. I had paused and started this podcast throughout the weekend and finished it up when I was making myself a french toast with some jam and it was just kind of a nice moment across time and space. This was absolutely amazing. I love seeing you guys just talk and be mates and know more about the history of my favorite channel
It's more than fantastic that we will see him more. He fits in so well with the normals and Ben. They are a great team. The two chefs, Ben and James are incredibly heart warming people.
I'm not a chef or in cooking as a profession even vaguely, but James' answer about best meal and it being solo cooking for friends with them just popping in and out to chat is 100% the same for me. I love just working on finishing up a dish or getting something slow cooking going while friends or family are visiting and just being a snarky person yelling comments from the kitchen or having one or two people chatting and then moving out while I also have chunks of time to concentrate or just chill in more quiet surroundings.

I only found sorted in the pandemic or just before (it was after a joint thing with cupcake jemma). Was gutted when James left...but its great having him pop back...especially in the last year when its been a bit more frequent.

I loved to hear James and Kush are good friends. I wondered if they were adversarial. I know that gets views but I'm glad behind the scenes they are friends.
James is and will always be a beloved part of the Sorted family, and this episode made me so happy. It is wonderful that he is able to come in for live shows and video shoots when he can (and win showdown after showdown, the champion, the GOAT, etc) while doing other things he is passionate sbout, as well!! Freelancing, travelling, and still finding time to come have a laugh here is amazing and I am so thankful he still wants to say hi.
We (the audience) all adore him, and I can tell you all do, too. I love what sorted started as, and is, and what you all bring and have contributed over the years. I have been watching since 2015 or so, and don't comment much, but you bring a lot of joy to my life and this really struck me today. The love you have for each other, the candor, the stories and memories you shared, y'all are the best and i just wanted you to know that.
