Tokyo is all you need. I have a kansai accent (specifically south osaka) and im trying to make myself sound like im from tokyo. Some people just cant comprehend kansai accents so. When learning japanese its always gokd to start with tokyo because its the most grammatically correct :)
Oita was kind of cringe for me lol, raised there as a half Brit.
wwww
This is so relatable... I'm Okinawan and my grandma pokes fun of me for having a Tokyo accent.
@@mememaster8368 I love kansai-ben tho!
Tokyo = cute
south Osaka = badass

Mr.Chujirouの部屋 どんまい😂
the heck? badass simply means cool. check yo facts boi.
I like the South Oosaka. It's so badass. It reminds me to one dialect of my native language. In Javanese, Solo dialect is cute as Tokyo, and in Jombang dialect, esp. Sumobito is fast as South Osaka, I am is from Jombang. When my mother angry to me, I didn't understand what actually she says.
Half of these sound like Japanese with a Mexican accent.
Peter Newson lol some/many also saying that
This comment made me snort. Xddd
For me this sounds like Chinese.... (I sound racist.... sorry)
SALTYCHOCO CAKE7172
I mean, Chinese was the original form of the new Japanese language.
The Mexican accent with Japanese, sounds Weird. trust me I am Mexican.
As a Foreigner I consider all is sounding like japanese of course. But there are notable differences in how sentences and words are built up and more how things are spoken out (the Tones or the sequence of high and low Tones seem to be quite different among the Dialects)
As a Japanese, his intonation sounds Osakan dialects all the time in every accent of Japan...
@@nippononna haha, I definitely didn't think his Kagoshima dialect sounded like Kagoshima people actually speak
@@nippononna How do Japanese people always can distinguish that accurate? Like you always know when the person is from Kansai?
@@andyw.3048 distinguish from the intonation...
Andy W. They can distinguish between them the same way us English speakers folks can distinguish between the English accents. Aussie accent, for instance, is very distinct and sounds a lot different from British
Tokyo: You did say that your bicycle was broken, but is it okay now?
Kyoto: You said that your bike broke, but is it okay now?
North Osaka: You said ya bike broke, how's it?
Hyogo: You said yer bike broke, can it go?
South Osaka: Y'know, y'know, 'bout that thingyou said the other day 'bout yer bike bein broke, 't good 't go now?
Hyogo: *Wtf i can't even understand him at this point*
I can imagine the whole video was full of incongruences because in kyoto, osaka and hyogo they all use 'charin' for bike, while he used this word just for his hometown.
It's a bit like northen english people
Everyone from the south has no clue what their saying
@@sam8742 or a northerner hearing a southerner speaking in their accent with southernisms.. of course hard to find people in the cities still speaking with the accents and southernisms together.

@@sam8742 Precisely.

This is why “learning Japanese” _from anime_ isn’t recommended. You may learn the way one person says it, but you won’t know it’s improper until you try and use it.... catching every funny look all the way down to the ground. 🤦♂️
Absolutely true!
There's a character I've always wanted to use in a story that has a brilliant ear for languages but no sense of context.
He learns how to speak Japanese by watching Takeshi movies then wonders why everyone is scared of him.
「だってばよって」🍥
Its not true imo, but it is actually true if you're just direclty blabbering to people if you dont know what is that mean, watching anime is also need reference outside Nime

And you actually managed to learn *all* of them.

So far I know about, Tokyo, Kansai, Osaka, Fukuouka, and Tohoku. I heard that Tohoku is difficult to understand even by native Japanese speakers.
Wait where was the Tohoku in the video?
Miyagi, Akita, Aomori and Iwate are Tohoku
you mean aomori dialect? Menkoina
Tohoku and Kyushu dialects are difficult to understand for native Japanese speakers, yes.
@@CGNDC those that lived or students that only has learnt up to tokyo standard, in the past tokyo itself even has dialect in edo period it wasnt unified and standardized enough (theres no mcarthur and american making policy postwahr) eg yamanote
The Okinawa lines he did sounded just like my mom's family in Okinawa, they stall their sentences in convos a lot too. XD I also remember as a kid hearing some words that I later found out were exclusive to Ryuukyuu, like "Jootoo", which my grandma would say a lot when we went clothes shopping, "Ohh Jootoo! Goo(d)!", she would say.
I remember my grandma in okinawa and my mom using a lot of descriptive words in uchinaguchi which I thought was standard japanese for a long time
videos like this really depress me. I know sooooo little Japanese :(😩

Don´t worry. Even some japanese don´t understand some dialect (which is kinda sad because they are the same people but somehow have dialect barrier (-_-") )

I spent a year in Saga during highschool, it's refreshing to hear someone talk about their accent and dialect :) Thanks!
This video was really interesting! Akita dialect gave me a headache!
Thanks a lot ! Yea Akita dialect is hard to get it, all sentences in this vid was " me" and different meaning 😓
This was awesome!!! So cool hearing all these dialects next to each other! Thanks for making this!

wooow there are so many dialects in Japanese *-* and you seem pretty good in all of them ... that's amazing!
yeah there sre so many tons of dialects in Japan, thank you so much !!
p.s. For anyone interested in the different dialects, in Osaka Bampaku Koen, there is an Ethnology museum where there is a display about the different dialects and you can listen to the same story in different dialects. (At least, it was there two decades ago... I hope it's still there?).

この動画めちゃめちゃ好き
I always wish that for this kind of accent comparison video, there is a universal sentence that is then spoken in the many different accents. Something like a verbal version of "the quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog", if you get my gist. Such a universal sentence spoken in different accents I believe will help pinpoint the differences between the many different accents.
As it is right now, just about the only obvious thing is that some accents are faster or slower, but it's extremely difficult to tell is an accent pronounces R sounds or if an accent is prone to using certain vowel sound such as "a" etc.
But thanks for the video regardless. Too many animes I watch seem to speak only Tokyo, so this is a good start in learning about the other accents.
All of sudden they sounds like korean
I grew up in Kanto my whole life, had to take the Tokyu-Toyoko line to school every day. The dialect difference was subtle but I did not realize how serious it was until now! Thank you for this video!
I noticed the dialects most when you repeated the lines at the end. Very informative.
