I don't plan on doing a lot nor setting up a store to sell stuff, just want to do my own stuff and have a little fun. Your reviews are always straight forward, so wanted to see what you'd recommend for an engraver to do what I mentioned. The Wecreate lazer looks nice and simple, but maybe over kill but honestly have no clue. Your advice would be greatly appreciated.

      If you're looking for pretty drama-free engraving without the need to become a rocket scientists, the WeCreat Vision is a fine laser. You could certainly buy things that start ot cheaper, but by the time you add Lightburn, a rotary, amd em enclosrure, you're probably going to be approaching the price of a Wecreat, but you'd also have quite a steep learning curve.

    I have a 90w c02, but am pondering getting a second for really fine detail engraving. Spot size on diodes appears to be much smaller. This could be a contender.
    I did have a general question on diode beams. Do they have an hourglass cut path like a c02?
    Thanks for the evaluation.

    • @SteveMakesEverything
      @SteveMakesEverything  Před 11 měsíci +1

      Yes I do the same thing. The spot size on this laser is claimed to be 0.08mms square though it can’t really measure it. Regardless any diode laser will create finer engraving and cuts than a CO2
      Every laser will have some sort of hourglass cut though in most diode lasers the focal length tends to be longer so it is less obvious. On a CO2 it would be similar to using a 5” lens.

      I think you will see dedicated laser software evolve to support more design features (though I obviously can't commit to work for Wecreat😉). I personally wouldn't expect any of these to become full-blown design tools though.
      Personally I've really taken to Kittl for design because it's so easy to use and it supports formats that any laser control tool can import. I don't think any laser company is going to build in all of the functionality of Kittl though.

    • @SteveMakesEverything
      @SteveMakesEverything  Před 10 měsíci

      The answer to both of those questions should be yes. Definite engraving anything like anodized aluminum will be fine as long as the coating isn’t just clear. A diode laser won’t touch aluminum, but it can engrave off the coating if it’s dark enough. The plastic sheet should be thin enough to cut - again as long as it isn’t clear.

    Curious to hear more on how you'd compare it to the XTool M1. I've had my M1 for a while now, but I've found that I just don't like it much. I've never had much luck with alignment, and there are a ton of places on the machine for smoke to come out, especially when using the riser. Have you tried batch cutting/engraving on the Vision?

    • @SteveMakesEverything
      @SteveMakesEverything  Před 11 měsíci +1

      I haven’t done batch cutting or engraving yet, because there was so much to cover. The vision supports it though so maybe this is something I should cover if I do a follow up.
      As far as an M1 comparison, I like the Vision more. It’s easier to use and the camera positioning is deadly accurate. There aren’t any places for smoke to leak out and the exhaust fan has much more power than the one on the M1.
      I’m not trying to bash the M1. It’s a great product too, but it’s a couple years old and the industry has evolved to build more comprehensive products. I’m sure xTool is evolving too to create more advanced products.

    Thank you! What about acrylic? What thickness can it cut? Also, is 10,000 hours good? What does that really mean?

    • @SteveMakesEverything
      @SteveMakesEverything  Před 10 měsíci

      When you ask about acrylic, we need to be specific and say "black acrylic" since diode lasers don't cut clear, white, or other light-colored acrylic. And like any 20W laser, this will cut 12-15mm black acrylic.
      On the lifespan question, 10000 hours is typical and to put that in perspective, it would be like running your laser 24x7 for almost 18 months.. So basically this should work in a typical environment for several years.

      @@SteveMakesEverything yes it was turned off to disconnect, yes the green light is on, don’t know what you mean by deleting the laser connection, I’m not real commuter savvy, but I did uninstall and reinstall software, is that the same thing??
      Thank you so much for responding to me and being so helpful!!

      @@kerricryer1590 Yes that should have done it. Have to ask in their Facebook group. I know the support people hang out there.

    can this engrave leather? Also, can it cut vinyl?

      Engraving leather is easy, but smelly. Never cut vinyl with a laser though. It will outgas chlorine and kill you or your laser.

    How do you set your size parameters? I tried to do a try and it kicked the whole thing around

      Are asking about size of the project you want work with, or something else?

    can it engrave on glass?

    • @SteveMakesEverything
      @SteveMakesEverything  Před 10 měsíci +1

      Like all diode lasers, you will need to resort to some surface treatment to engrave on glass. I did a video a few months ago showing several different techniques for this - check my video backlog

    The whole thing looks like an upgraded xtool M1

      Upgraded for sure, but it has no blade cutter. The Vision is only trying to be a laser

      That’s a function of the material you are cutting rather than the laser
