Half the fun of those games is figuring out what everything is and how it works. It’s like being given an electronic puzzle in some cases. My first system was a 2600.
I like that corrupted Silent Hill sounds more or less like normal Silent Hill.

Honestly couldnt tell what was actually a normal sound in that from my limited knowledge of the series. I assumed the bathtub noise was normal
semi-related - when silent hill 1 was in development the original composer left early on, and when the dude who replaced him took the soundtrack in the good ol industrial noise direction, the team initially was convinced that the sounds were just the game bugging out until he explained that it was supposed to be like that

It was asked, so I'll answer it here: I decided to do a Coleco pack mainly because we hadn't seen a lot of retro stuff in a while. In a way, corrupting more modern games has become much easier than anything else, thanks to RTC's continual advancements. But I wanted to take a step back and remember how it all started: with the bleepin' and bloopin' of these simple 8-bit systems. It is in fact extremely difficult to get good corruptions out a system that can barely print a static sprite to the screen. You can't rely on Vector+special lists. You have to deep-dive into the RAM and really learn how a game works from the inside. Otherwise, as you see whenever Vinny starts emmanual blastin', it just devolves into coloured blobs.
The pack had a far greater reception than I was expecting, and I think that was the most fanart one of my packs has ever inspired. Loved seeing all the corrupted S M I L E S :) that was my favourite one.
so basipally there's so little code in the game that corrupting it is like pulling jenga blocks.
@@LordAndHighMasterOfExcellency. Oh, for sure. The main ram domain is only 1024 bytes. You'd blast 100x that size when corrupting something like Wii.

Fun fact, Colecovision Donkey Kong was the best home console port of its day because Coleco got the rights to develop the console ports, and they made the Intellivision and Atari versions shittier to boost sales for the Colecovision. People wanted the game so bad that it worked.

dude the animal zoo corruption would be a perfect canidate for a psycholgical horror game it starts off innocent and you guess the words then it progressivly just gets more fucked up and drawing more and more creepy things and making you spell things like behind you, death, soon, etc.
If anyone wants to make this game please in the credits just cred me.
It could be a story about a zookeeper with dementia or trauma. Perhaps he's trying to tell the police about an incident he saw, but his mind is constantly at odds with itself.

It seems that certain words manage to trigger memories and thus slow the process long enough for us to retrieve info. Based upon our probing, it seems that words related to the Calabra Zoo help to trigger this info the most as he deeply cared for his job. Even so, we can tell we don't have much time as his scribblings have proven more distorted and...disturbing.

The trail's gone cold. As much as Miller was able to assist, his mind has deteriorated to the point that he can no longer continue and has become feral. What remains of his body and brain is currently being sent to ****** to undergo medical research to understand the full effects of the Star Vanguard. Overall, this has been a massive failure. I blame myself for trying to rush the process, though the supervisors say otherwise. Either way, what's done is done. I can only hope that he's...found a better place.

I should of ended the project when I had the chance. Miller managed to escape with various documents in tow. At first, I didn't even know how he managed to get past security, though based upon the abrasions on the victims, he seems to have established a mind link with the Star Vanguard and thus has gained its powers. Shockingly enough, the cuts seem to match the drawings of a face. ...My face. Or at least, his interpretation of what I look like. I managed to match it up to one of our test drawings when he was asked to draw each of us. Seems he's still holding a grudge against me after how I treated him. Maybe it's justified...

Speaking of morph ball accidents at 1:36:29 -- one of my favorite parts of Metroid Prime was reading all the logs of the Space Pirates trying to reverse-engineer Samus' gear and failing horribly, including them trying to do their own morph ball resulting in Space Pirate test subjects getting just gored and crunched and mutilated. Was pretty radical.

My idea for the Donkey Kong corruption is that Jumpman is actually an all-powerful being, held in place by a primitive body. He is so immensely powerful, that trying to keep his true form from being unleashed is breaking the world around him.
