- Miss Universe 1989, the 38th Miss Universe pageant, was held on 23 May 1989 at the Fiesta Americana Condesa Hotel in Cancún, Mexico. Angela Visser of Holland crowned by Porntip Nakhirunkanok of Thailand. Seventy-six contestants competed in this year.

Miss Sweden was so beautiful too, though. I thought she was going to win (even though Angela is one of my favourires). She was a hairdresser and ended up marrying a famous fashion designer.

These judges knew what they were doing. The final two were perfect choices and of course the winner just edged the first runner up enough to win.

I read once that Venezuela scouts all over the world for their Miss Venezuela, one came from Sweden, another was an American model from Florida, not Venezuelan by a long shot.

Si se fijan ese año cambio la corona de extendida y grande a Simetrica, mas pequeña y ajustable
Yo la veo igual que la de los años anteriores, con esa figura femenina en el centro sosteniendo un centro con una de las manos y que justamente rompe con la simetría de toda la composición.
Si estamos de acuerdo pero se achico incluso el cintillo paso de ser circular perfecto a tener unas parte doblada y con un seguro (el cual falló en 1993 cuando coronaron a Dayanara Torres) la razón fue el dar una nueva imagen al certamen además permitía tener la corona más al centro de la cabeza y no tan atrás casi en la nuca
El mejor ajuste en la corona fue el de Lupita Jones! una vez colocada en su cabeza y en ese larguisimo cuello la 👑 quedo fija!

This year’s batch was really good. Such a pity the pageant was not well organized. No preliminary swimsuit scores. No preliminary averages posted. The male host was terrible... he seriously ruined Miss Holland’s crowning. Rapid announcement of runner ups and a long delayed pause of the announcement of Holland as the winner (it took him 5 secs). Really? The parade of nations was not well organized with NO mention of the girls’ names and NO captions/display of their names on the screen either. Whoever produced the 1989 pageant should be fired. This year’s pageant could’ve been so good, such a pity!!
