    Thanks again for another great lesson. I am not really into the sound of slap bass but feel I need to know how to do it reasonably well to be a more rounded electric bassist. This lesson helps me a lot. Thanks!

    I've watched some other videos explaining Slap technique but this one I can really understand. It's also great help to see how your hands stay relaxed while you play... as a tiny lady bassist I thought I would have to make an extra effort (as well as getting myself a short scale bass guitar, wich I did.)

    Great video. I'd love to see another one where you go through the same process of adding complexity, but see how to start rhythmically slowly too and build that up to tempo. You techniques are very cool, but I want to see how to learn them myself. Great job!

    It's important to remember that, in order to get a clean, unmuffled sound, the thumb must bounce slightly away from the string instantly after you slap it. If you don't do that, the string will be muted rather than being allow to ring. :-)

    What are your thoughts (and maybe sharing advice) on making a setup to a bass, i.e. string height, action, pickup height, etc.

  • @sleekitwan
    @sleekitwan Před 6 lety

    Really useful, awaiting my new bass, will give the action/reaction thumb hammer/finger pick thing a shot. BTW 'accent' as you put it, I always know these as grace notes. Yes, it keeps the train running as it were, and is the dive before the splash you could say. Thinking, I would like to try an entire song where it is played 'vanilla' then accent or grace-note it all over the place, and compare the effect it has on the song. Must try this out, now I got my copy of Cubase (used, cannot afford all this stuff new!).

    The correct definition of this technique is called, Thumping and plucking as defined by the innovators like Larry Graham, and the late Louis Johnson. By the way, Louis Johnson loved to thump with an open hand.
    Overall, good video here!

    --can you tell me how that bass is configured? i use a factory fender jazz bass which has not been modified. i cannot get the slap sound out of it. the pop sound , yea. but the thumb slap is really weak. articles are numerous as well as confusing as to pickups, pedals and so forth. my config is a ampeg svt (not the classic) and the 4 10 cabinet and as i stated, a factory jazz bass.
