I've been playing bass for years and never quite understood how to do this. Now I do! Thanks
Bass fans! Thanks for watching!! I'm planning to record some more videos with Lessonface. What subject would you like these tutorials to cover?
Yonit Spiegelman
Ghost notes and flagolett
Maybe you should learn your instrument before teaching mediocrity to beginners. What is the point of this?
This is the first lesson I've found that really explains this technique. Thanks.
Very helpful, easy to understand, and well-sequenced. I always wondered how slaps and pops were done . All the best in 2017 for you Yonit! I LOVE NYC!
Johnnie Guitar Watson?
instablaster
Thanks again for another great lesson. I am not really into the sound of slap bass but feel I need to know how to do it reasonably well to be a more rounded electric bassist. This lesson helps me a lot. Thanks!
I've watched some other videos explaining Slap technique but this one I can really understand. It's also great help to see how your hands stay relaxed while you play... as a tiny lady bassist I thought I would have to make an extra effort (as well as getting myself a short scale bass guitar, wich I did.)
Thanks I'm new to bass after 20+ years on guitar, and slap is something I want to learn. This video is better than others I've seen in showing how it works.
Great. It was inspiration to go back to bass:) Ex-double bass student at Music Academy, Lithuania. Vidas
Vidas Girskis -Labas. 😜
Great video. I'd love to see another one where you go through the same process of adding complexity, but see how to start rhythmically slowly too and build that up to tempo. You techniques are very cool, but I want to see how to learn them myself. Great job!
Hello! Always great to see a lady on bass! I am a cellist and beginner on bass!
Thanks Yonit all your advice and teaching is appreciated.
you nailed every part of this tutorial, thank you!
your playing produces a clean slapping/plucking style with good tone and unhurried dynamics - nice!
Marvelous...Bassworking! Keep on sharing&teaching!
Now it's all clear . Liked it .
Very nicely demonstrated and explained! You obviously know your stuff.
very nice playing, I'm gonna see if I can find you playing on a track somewhere. you got a 70,s feel to me. thanks
Excellent Lesson
Thank you Thank you
Nice Job Lady!! You have a great teaching gift!!
VERY GOOD EXPLAINED ... Great gift as a teacher. Thanks so much'
Hey, great lesson. Very clear and perfectly paced.
You explain very good and highlight the important points!
You can also have your hand open while using the thumb.
Great stuff...What she needed to say is that there are a set of harminics at the end of the fingerboard which is what really enhances the fundamental....But yea....Very cool !!!!
Yonit what a blessing to find your video. I'm an old guy from low London. Im living now in a little town in Spain and have no one to practice with. I'm 73 next birthday and wannna stay with you God Willing. Seems you have been away. I hope you are still with us. Don't let life grind you down. Embrazo!
So love your Fender Jazz. Hope one day to own one like it. Muz...

Thanks a lot Yonít ! You're a great teacher ! Un saludo desde El Salvador, C.A.

Very informative,thank you.
You sure are a very good teacher...
Thats a beautiful bass!
I mean this in the most respectful way... When I see you I melt cuz you're so something I don't know what a sort of ferocious 'scrumptuous'...as I call it =D but I barely got a bass... I like you very much and hope you are well... SWAK ❤
Todah Rabbah Yonit!
Thanks. Great video
Detailed teaching. Good
great teacher!
nice videos. Thanks. You should invest in a direct box and a mixer.
great lesson
Thanks
This makes me want to pick up my bass again just for the fun of doing it.
Very helpful
Thanks such a cute bassist! 👍👍👍👍❤💚
I like your style.
So lovely
I play bass and guitar and this video was even helpful to me.
It's important to remember that, in order to get a clean, unmuffled sound, the thumb must bounce slightly away from the string instantly after you slap it. If you don't do that, the string will be muted rather than being allow to ring. :-)
you're very cool girl. awesome!!!
What are your thoughts (and maybe sharing advice) on making a setup to a bass, i.e. string height, action, pickup height, etc.
Really useful, awaiting my new bass, will give the action/reaction thumb hammer/finger pick thing a shot. BTW 'accent' as you put it, I always know these as grace notes. Yes, it keeps the train running as it were, and is the dive before the splash you could say. Thinking, I would like to try an entire song where it is played 'vanilla' then accent or grace-note it all over the place, and compare the effect it has on the song. Must try this out, now I got my copy of Cubase (used, cannot afford all this stuff new!).
I like your music...
nice, thanks for sharing.
thanks for share info
good lesson.i love you

Great video
very good
תותחית!
wow thank u
Nice
Nice job
Awesome 😎
too easy understand thanks for your slap bass
super. just like that..I got it.
The correct definition of this technique is called, Thumping and plucking as defined by the innovators like Larry Graham, and the late Louis Johnson. By the way, Louis Johnson loved to thump with an open hand.
Overall, good video here!
תותחית. תצליחי :)
--can you tell me how that bass is configured? i use a factory fender jazz bass which has not been modified. i cannot get the slap sound out of it. the pop sound , yea. but the thumb slap is really weak. articles are numerous as well as confusing as to pickups, pedals and so forth. my config is a ampeg svt (not the classic) and the 4 10 cabinet and as i stated, a factory jazz bass.
Nice!
Good
Nice lesson! I Appreciatte ypur beauty and your talent. Ughh~ :)))
can you give us an advice what kind of bass guitar we are going to buy...? it would be a big help for us.. thanks
Is that a custom bass? Is the neck painted or is that just a gloss on maple? It's beautiful with that burgundy pickguard. Great lessons and teaching.
very nice great
ja-ja das ist fantastisch)))))
Good stuff :)
Do you recommend a short scale bass for a beginner? I'm small, and I'm not sure if it's going to be more difficult.
⭐⭐👍🏽⭐⭐ Thank You
