It's such an interesting story. The fact that Senator Armstrong is so memorable. And has a deep philosophy that people who wholeheartedly disagree with can still debate about. And it's accompanied by this amazing song that both summarizes the conflict AND highlights the ideals of both Armstrong and Raiden. It's perfection in storytelling and gameplay. There's little like it.
And like any Metal Gear character, mixed in with just enough batshit weird stuff to put that icing on the deep cake
A philosophical character with a banger soundtrack, who also did the weird Ginyu pose and also has a football stadium crowd behind him
Dude walks out of a giant ant, has a 30 min cutscene, then straight to a bossfight. To me, it's crazy that someone manage to make such a memorable character with such little screentime
and people will still miscredit it as kojima when he handed complete freedom to platinum
@@bloodykun4443 To be fair, Kojima set up that world so Platinum had a good base to work with. I don’t remember too much from most of the dialogue of Wonderful 101 aside from the sentai jokes. Bayonetta has more memorable moments, and Nier is so insane because of Yoko Taro. So while Platinum definitely deserves more credit, I can see why people think Kojima was responsible.
I think the reason Armstrong's philosophy is so interesting to people is that unlike a lot of people who spout social Darwinism and the like, he's not using it as an excuse to be a bigot, he just wholeheartedly believes in it. There's no subtext to his beliefs, no insincere bullshit to hide prejudice. He just actually believes his philosophy is correct, and that's always a interesting character to analyze and interpret. It's difficult to debate someone who isn't actually sincere in their beliefs because they have no dog in the fight beyond their facade. Armstrong is so sincere and open in his philosophy so it's much more engaging to pick it apart.
The fact that I haven't played Metal Gear Rising and still love this song and "I'm my own master now" speaks volumes to how amazing the games soundtrack is.

Ahhh, I remember listening to Jerod's original cover of this. I thought it was so funny to watch chat complain about the title showing the channel's name of CrimsonFucker.
It's nice to see history loop back around, even if we're missing the old channel name, but I suppose it has to be this way.

@@bowserfriend I think it was around that time in 2016-early 2018 when he covered it, though now I unfortunately can't check because the original cover got privated, which I assume is to make it not take away from this cover since the audio quality is surely better.

I've never played any of the Metal Gear games, but the moment I heard the Armstrong memes, I just remembered that one comment in Jon's stream when he was playing Xenoblade, saying how amazing Armstrong would be in fighting the Mechon, and now I can't take this game seriously.
The game opens with Raiden suplexing a building-sized robot, then jumping onto it MID-SUPLEX, in order to split it in half. And the robot SURVIVES this. That is the TUTORIAL boss.
You're not exactly SUPPOSED to take it seriously.
The best part is that he's not exaggerating.
The game kinda forces you to take it seriusly, while also laughing the whole time about how batshit insane everything is while it is happening.
This game makes you question if you just had a very strange and weirdly coherent nightmare with an exceptional combat design.
