    I keep seeing these species kept in screen cages which really doesn't make much sense cause screen cages don't hold humidity well. I recommend a glass enclosure with a screen lid and possible cross-ventilation with a bioactive setup for great humidity retention.

      Well that's the difficulty with these guys is humidity is important but so is ventilation. They require a cyclical humidity. 3-4 rainy days and then dry days. Too humid, especially for babies, can promote bacterial growth and kill babies. Its tough to raise these guys, particularly breeding them.

    Being that they're a lizard that needs high humidity.....wouldn't a glass sided enclosure be a better option. I was noticing all the water on your floor after misting....😏

      They also have very sensitive respiratory systems and need lots of air circulation which is why people normally have screen tanks

      Honestly I'm not sure. A lot of lizards shake their prey to disorient it though after it's already grabbed it.

      They actually don't. They're one of the few reptiles that don't. It's because where they live it's pretty chilly up into the mountains. Of course I don't recommend any crazy cold temperatures but my room which stays from around 70-74 degrees F is plenty for them.

    • @bonecc4061
      @bonecc4061 Před 3 lety

      I guess I should I said it different. Where I live. In winter they would definitely need heat. Getting into the negative regularly. The house gets pretty cold for reptiles. Especially at night.

    Im really thinking about getting one very soon and i was going to go with the screen enclosure like you. How does the humidity hold up in the screen enclosures? Is misting it twice a day enough? Please respond i cant get an answer for this question any where! thanks a lot!

    • @ryanflies6915
      @ryanflies6915 Před 3 lety +1

      I’ll help I’ve been studying reptiles for 6 years. Screen tanks don’t hold humidity well like you said, tubs are better but provide limited visibility and are much cheaper. I would say misting it 3-4 times a week would be good.
