This is so beautiful. Even in his winter years, Moe was a master comic. He never lost his touch for the zany and outrageous. He made us smile both then and now.

In Mike Douglas' 1999 autobiography I'll Be Right Back, he writes that arriving at the studio at 8AM, waiting alone in the lobby was Moe Howard, ready with a list of comic bits for consideration in that day's show, and ready to rehearse. Mr. Douglas has said that Moe Howard may have been the most conscientious performer he ever worked with

When I was a kid In the 60's they were promoting the New Three Stooges Cartoon shorts they stopped in SF and I got to see them. There is a technique to it, to throw it at someone properly without hurting them. We did a thing at work once where the manager took pies in the face, someone did it too hard and actually gave them a black eye. We're assuming it was an accident 🙄

@@kachoo2135 I once read Moe traveled to Pennsylvania to see his son, and was asked to speak at a college. During the question-and-answer session, a young man came up on stage with a pie in his hand. Moe frowned because the pie had real fruit in it instead of the whipped or shaving cream pies they used, but the young man would not be dissuaded; Moe threw, the pie exploded, and the man fell backwards. The young man was all smiles. He thanked Moe and returned to his seat.

I'm willing to bet many of the co-stars were chosen for height (several 5'11+ actors), otherwise most of the other men on the set would have been roughly 5'7"-5'8" guys give or take (which was the average during the Stooges' heyday, compared to today's 5'9"-5'10") and thus would have made the Stooges look not as short. Even if the Stooges were wearing lifts (which didn't seem like it, but it's hard to tell), it didn't look nearly enough to even off with the tall co-stars :).

Actually, all the Stooges were just short guys. (With the exception of 4th Stooge, promoted to new Middle Stooge at the end, Emil 'Harry' Sitka, who was average height, making him a bit taller than Moe and Curly-Joe.)
Almost all their supporting players towered over them. We just never noticed, because we were watching the Three, not the rest.

Okay... I misunderstood. Thought somebody was saying the Stooges were trying to hide their relatively small stature. It actually makes more sense that they would want to be perceived as being a bit short... Three big guys acting the way they did wouldn't have been funny. It would have been scary!
