We had to say goodbye to Lida Rose two and half years ago. She was just over 18 1/2 years old. My mom will always miss her, but we'll always have this song, and I think it'll make her very happy to hear it.
I'm 46. My Aunt has sung this throughout my life and she's now in her 80's. Interestingly, I was playing a wedding a couple weekends ago (string quartet), and the young bride requested this for the processional. I love this one.

@@petermeichan3160 Great question! Barbershop quartet singing is really American. In the show "The Music Man" a barbershop quartet sings this song. But musicals like "The Music Man" are very American too. Europe had music halls, light opera, and operettas. (As well as grand opera.) Musical theater with a story, dance, and catchy popular songs evolved from vaudeville and was a genre created here.

Thank you, Randy, for taking this "two-song song" to a better place than it has ever been. Your talent continues to surpass itself, and you keep surprising us with your range! Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!!!!
This *is* a barbershop quartet.
@@UkeCan1 Yes, but all four parts are sung by ONE person, which makes this even more mind-blowing! Randy Rainbow is truly amazing!
It was originally a barbershop number from "The Music Man".
@@kensimmons Yes.
His musicality is tremdous and always pitch perfect! 🤩🌈🙏❤️
Pulling off a barbershop quartet by himself is a great indication of his vocal range. Brilliant as always.
Thank you for this on this terrible morning yet again in America.
Two in as many days??
I am in heaven!!
Thank you Randy, the world needs you❤️
Ok, but…I wasn’t expecting a non parody at this point! And I love it just as much ❤️❤️❤️
Hi Jennifer
How are you today?🌺🌺
Me too ! He has such a flair for the musical tune. Love that Randy!!
Randy, your voice has always been a voice of change, but I now wonder what I've missed in your career, such as Broadway, or off-Broadway. I hope you're well and successful and thank you for being the voice of a generation. I love you!
Those harmonies are so sharp they could cut glass 💎
This musical man truly is a . . . Music Man! This overdubbing extravaganza should cement Randy's star in the walk of fame. Meredith Willson would be proud.
It kills me how he harmonizes with himself, Randy makes me laugh and cry at the same time, what an absolute treasure this gentleman is!
OMG, Randy's voice is pure perfection. This is a breathtaking performance. When he hit that low note, I almost passed out.
And I love how the soft pastel blues and pinks of Randy's jackets go so well with these harmonies.
@@tracesprite6078 I agree! They reflect his smooth harmonies.
Yeah, he should use his lower range more often. It is spectacular.
Yes, when a quartet is *slightly* off-tune, it stresses the listener out. Randy is right on here!
How you have not been begged to lead a huge main broadway production is beyond me. Not just because of your name recognition but for your incredible and diverse talent. Randy, you have kept us in check for so many years. Thank you!
So. Damn. Talented. *swoon* 💓💓💓
This might be a tall order, but Randy can pull it off. The entire score of THE MUSIC MAN with Randy playing every part.
❤❤❤❤❤
Anyone who can call Trump "Donald Jessica Trump" to his face and get away with it can pull off anything.
How fun it was to see that this video was released just as Band Festival is starting today in Mason City (River City) Iowa home of Meredith Wilson
Randy doing "Ya Got Trouble " would cause many unexplainable things to happen
Be still my heart, that’s something I never knew I needed.
Oh my GOODNESS! The perfect intonation! The more parts there are, the harder it gets! What a TOWERING talent!
Hi Cari
How are you today?🌺🌺
I've always loved _a capella_ multi-part harmonies -- barbershop quartets, The Persuasions, etc. What a fabulous job Randy did with this. I cannot even begin to imagine how much work this took to pull off.
Randy, thank you for coming back with such a marvelous tune! Have missed you terribly. While I enjoy all the political humor this was on a whole nother level. Standing O all the way!💖
Praying when you hit Broadway I will be able to catch your show!
Thank you for doing what you do! You are amazing!
🤗🌹💐🌹💐🌹💐🌹💐🌹💐🤗
Bravo,Bravo!
I grew up on “The Music Man” and EVERY number in it is GOLD. One of my favorites is the duet between the quartet and Marion. THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! I RELLY needed this today!!!
Same here. The Music Man has always had a special place in my heart, and to combine it with RR is bliss.
I have a t-shirt that claims to be from River City Pool Hall. It asks "YA GOT TROUBLE?" and then says "Fritter away your troubles at River City Pool Hall! Ragtime Music - Scarlet Women! I also have another t-shirt that is an old cover illustration from Capt. Billy's Whiz Bang.

Whenever I feel so depressed that I feel things are hopeless (Buffalo, Texas, Russia in Ukraine, Biden's approval rating tanking), I get my Randy Rainbow fix. Need it more than just about anything else. THANK YOU, RANDY! The world looks a bit better after viewing one of these videos.
Hugs to you. I know. Things are so depressing sometimes.
My wife & I AGREE!!!!
Hey, you forgot to put in that list, the COVID-19 (which is still around!) and the MonkeyPox thing! 😥
Dear Lord, have mercy on us !
Don’t forget that the red time machine is set to erase 50 years of women’s rights progression, so women are about to lose our very bodily autonomy. If we aren’t killed or maimed by an illegal abortion, we’ll be forced back into “barefoot & pregnant in the kitchen” again…. All due to a group of elite, white men afraid of losing their power. We’ve been acquiring too many seats at the table, they need to put us back in our “place.” Cowards.
Since the Roe leak, the rage of the past 5 years, that exhaustion & a slight glimmer of hope had briefly dissipated to a simmer, has been absolutely boiling over. With nowhere to go, it is splashing down & burning holes into my soul. To borrow an expression from “The Handmaid’s Tale” (appropriate, I think): “I feel like the word shatter.” Sigh.
Thank you, Randy- for shining your light in a very dark world.
Same here. Joy ❤️❤️❤️
To put it in the songwriter's words, it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas, given all the new Randy Rainbow.

There have been great singers who sang this song: Barbara Cook and Shirley Jones for "Will I Ever Tell You?" can hardly be topped. Yet I think this is the best performance of this medley ever done.
Honey, you bring a great big smile to the face of this 75 year old queen every time I watch one of your videos. Thank you so much for being here for us!!!❤❤❤
I'm so glad you shared! I'm not a queen, but I'm old!

Best wishes.
@@Keith-sh4lo I’ll bet you are super fun at parties. 🙄
This is the first time that Randy made me shed tears that weren't tears of laughter. The four-part harmony coming from one single voice is absolutely spectacular! Also, I was first introduced to this song through my late big brother, who sang it with his high school barbershop quartet and practiced it relentlessly at home until I learned his part, as well. To this day - almost 50 years later - I will still belt it out occasionally, although my singing voice leaves much to be desired, LOL! Thank you so much for this treat, Randy! Your brilliance and talent are astounding and as always, I continue to adore you! 😁♥️🙂❤️🥰💕
What a lovely comment. I cried too x
Ahhhh. Takes me back to being 10 years old, sitting on the floor with a 33rpm album of The Music Man playing on the stereo and singing along with every song. But I never sounded as dreamy and sweet as you! Thanks so very much. ❤️
Totally!👍😍
Same. Or even better: Mom at the piano, all of us singing along, learning tight harmony
Randy and his production team deserve that Emmy!
'Production team' ?
He’s his own production team!
The description credits the many talents involved in this production. Randy is Executive Producer
I am in awe of the harmony from the many of the one and only Randy Rainbow 💜
I couldn’t love this any more if I wanted to. Beautiful voice and phrasing. I doesn’t hurt that The Music Man is one of my all time favorite musicals. ♥️♥️
Hello Michele how are you doing today How's everything going?
Just what we needed this morning; sweet peace for a few moments. Lovely harmonies! Thank you.
Ramona here...I sang this with another girl and two boys in a junior high school assembly performance...60 years ago!!...and was singing it just the other day to myself as I puttered around the house... How very sweet to hear and see you performing this charming song! Thank you!
Omg my two year old son is obsessed with this song and requests Lida Rose every night before bed. I can’t wait to show him your rendition! Fabulous as usual ❤️
your son will love it!
You are so lucky. When my son was two years old he was obsessed with White and Nerdy.

Randy, I hope you never cease to be flattered when someone like me speaks truth to your musical talents. Vocalizing all parts with such closeness ! I love your channel.
Another dandy by the one and only Randy Rainbow. Well done!
Love the internal rhyme in your comment.
Fabulously done. You are a National Treasure. We love you.!
Amazing musical talent without political humor. I'm impressed with Randy's ability to keep us engaged with his take on current events but this side venture of straight up show tunes to promote his tour is fabulous. Well done Mr 🌈!
Well now, wasn't that just the most charming performance?
This song is the reason why THE MUSIC MAN is my favorite musical of all time. Randy's version does not feature classic barbershop harmonies yet is still sublime. Just listened to it three times. Randy, I love you.
Come to NYC and see Hugh Jackman and Sutton Foster on Broadway.
@@dinahellen this too is one of my favorites, as a kid I "borrowed" it from my parents to listen while falling asleep (along with My Fair Lady) Idk about Broadway though; I saw this at UMass (Amherst) some years back & was SO disappointed! But my date reminded me that you simply can't expect Robert Preston from a local college production, no matter how good the show is (she was right!) This is a movie that can't be duplicated on any stage bc it was choreographed so well way back when. I REALLY ❤️ RR in virtually everything, but tbh the best are from Fiddler on the Roof! 😁🙋♀️

If you really are producing all this flawless audio by your lonesome in your apartment, you are truly a force of nature...and one to be reckoned with! Thank you!
Absolutely fantastic you are so talented Randy singing all those parts nobody dares to harmonize like that anymore
Makes me wanna hear Randy do a Barry Sisters tribute album. Come on, Randy - hit us with a little Nu Zug Mir Schoin Ven. Or maybe some of their bubblegum pop, like Too Smart.
I dare. I just do it alone in the desert.
If you like Randy, and harmonizing with oneself, you might try Geoff Castellucci....hes part of Voiceplay, does alot of solo harmonizing with himself in the multiple, lol
You might like Peter Hollens' cover of Pentatonix' 5-part harmony masterpiece, "Run To You". Peter sings all 5 parts: czcams.com/video/W3kzs5OxqGA/video.html And here is the original version: czcams.com/video/sp7PS_UN8Lo/video.html
I love this. My mom named one of my childhood dogs Lida Rose after this song. She was my mom's baby. I remember one year at the state fair, there was a barbershop quartet and she asked if they knew the song and requested they sing it. She was positively giddy when they sang it.
Such sad news coming from Texas yesterday, my heart is broken, and I’m crying as I write this. But today I see a new video from Randy Rainbow 🏳️🌈 and I want to believe that there are millions of kind wonderful human beings out there. Thank you Randy for the new video. ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜

How lovely! This is a great duet from “The Music Man”
Randy is his own barbershops quartet! Beautiful barbershop harmonies
I loved that. Simply loved it.
In anyone else's hands that would have fallen apart as someone tried to put together those harmonies.
A masterclass, Mr Rainbow. A masterclass.
Perfection. I adore everything about this. Randy is keeping classic American music alive and well.
please explain what you mean by ' american music '
@@petermeichan3160 Great question! Barbershop quartet singing is really American. In the show "The Music Man" a barbershop quartet sings this song. But musicals like "The Music Man" are very American too. Europe had music halls, light opera, and operettas. (As well as grand opera.) Musical theater with a story, dance, and catchy popular songs evolved from vaudeville and was a genre created here.
@@speakerleora musicals and musical theatre started in Europe, as did Vaudeville ( but under a different name ) but they all stem from Italian and German Opera some of which are older than you country is
@@petermeichan3160 I understand that. And I mentioned it.
Is there an early equivalent of barbershop quartet singing, (Let's not go back to monks in monasteries. )
There aren’t words! How wonderful is that? Oh come on, Broadway, get u\him on the boards. In the meantime, keep doing more of these, Randy!
Randy Rainbow …you made my day. Absolutely amazing harmony. What a talent. You are definitely a ray of sunshine at such a sad sad time in Texas and the Ukraine. ❤️💕
Thank you, Randy, for taking this "two-song song" to a better place than it has ever been. I've seen the original movie many times, the "remake" movie once (once is more than enough), and I have performed it several times in choirs over the years.
Your rendition changes the barbershop harmony to a much more pleasant place. And your Lida Rose solo captures the happiness, hope, and wonder of first love.
Asthma and COPD have removed my voice from me but I was lip synching and smiling right along with you.
Sorry about the asthma and copd, but I'm glad we have so much beautiful music to enjoy from others. So agree about that horrid ABC MUSIC MAN television desecration. I simply wasn't able to make it far enough in to hear their version of this, as so much of it made me gag. Just so wrong in so many ways, and a waste of some very good talent. Ah, well....

Absolutely wonderful!! I’ve always loved this song medley from “The Music Man”, and to hear it done by only one person is truly amazing! Your talent is mind boggling! Fabulous barbershop harmony!
Oh my heart! My favourite musical, the one that made me fall in love with musical theater when I was a young boy!
I would love a Randy Rainbow album of him just singing his favorite tunes. This is a wonderful barbershop quartet song! Randy has the voice, the ear, the adequate range, and the technology to do multitracks like this! Delightful!
Oh, WOW! RR, you keep outdoing yourself. One of my favorite American musicals. When it came out when I was in high school, I realized it was all variations on one song! What a treat, before I plunge into the morning news. Randy Rainbow, National Treasure!

I love how he can harmonise with himself a if he has a backing group. Such a sweet voice.
The musical skill to write Barbershop style musical harmony, sing each individual part identically, and arrange all the music is incredible. To me, Randy Rainbow is the most entertaining person on CZcams. And he does it all himself, in his home. Even Stephen Sondheim, the renown Broadway composer/lyricist has praised Randy Rainbow's talent. High praise from the highest judge. I've said it before and I'll say it again..... Somebody's gotta give this guy a raise.
Oh, this brought back a wonderful memory of a quartet group of elderly gentlemen singing this to me in thanks for writing a feature article about their group. They were so charming, as is Randy Rainbow!

So beautiful I can feel it in my bones. SO glad Randy is FINALLY using his amazing voice to give us some classic renditions in addition to his brilliant satires. Standards are HARDLY standard when Randy brings his magic to such songs.

This was incredible and needs to be shared to everyone.
That would be fun! Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy by Randy Rainbow? Yes, please!
@@foxgodrecords2752 I was thinking I Had A Hat. The Dropkick Murphys did an incredibly fun version of that, and my son became enamored of it. He was over at my house and I pulled up the Andrews Sisters version, and just waited on him to pick up on the lyrics. When the words he was hearing registered on him, his jaw hit the floor. He thought DKM had written it (understandable, since the song is from the point of view of an Irishman named Casey, which is exactly who sings that song with DKM).
@@BrutishYetDelightful It's always funny to see kids' faces when they find out a "new" song is actually a cover. 😁

There is a *Lila* Rose who fits that bill. I thought it was about her at first glance.
It's from The Music Man--classic Broadway musical by Meredith Willson.
You must hear the original 1957 Broadway cast version by the Buffalo Bills and Barbara Cook. It was my introduction to her beautiful voice and exquisite phrasing, which I forgot about until 1985 when she performed a concert version of Sondheim's "Losing My Mind". Renewed my love affair with her. Met her backstage at the Hollywood Bowl and she was charming.
