    Great exposure for the first video with the new camera. Looks like a good improvement to the channel.

    Your new camera is a great addition and improvement in video quality. The sound is a bit low though on this and the following laser video. I had to increase the sound on my monitor to maximum just to hear you speak. I do have a small fan going in the background so I have a little ambient noise. Other You Tube videos have a higher volume audio. I haven't seen anyone else comment about this. I enjoy your videos every much.

    I think you may need to have a look at the focus lock settings on the new camera, there were a couple of occasions I noticed the auto-focus shift out of focus and then backtrack. Second time as at 2:41 :)

      @ChrisDePrisco  Před 7 lety

      Yup. I hate autofocus. But with an f1.7 aperture though it's basically mandatory or else the slightest shift forward or backward will make it all out of focus. I set it to "face tracking" so hopefully that will fix it in the future.
      When I'm behind the camera, though, it's manual focus all the way. :P

      GH4 doesn't exactly have the best autofocus. Best to mess around with the settings until something sticks.

      @ChrisDePrisco  Před 7 lety

      SkeleCrafter Yes I found that out. With face tracking it finds my face perfectly but hunts for focus every 5-10 seconds. Easily the worst autofocus mechanic I've ever used. :(

    can you do the laser music stuff?

    I was pumped on SLRs for videography, until I learned about the 29 minute limit. The borrowed Nikon I have used only does 17m28s, and that's hacked! I kinda went the other way and spent money on some "video" cameras. Yes, I'm disappointed by the quality overall (hard not to when you are a machinist and the littlest things count). Funny, your video made me think of putting all of my cameras on a board and doing a shootout comparison.

      Did I not mention the recording limit? I meant to. The reason I went with the GH4 instead of the nearly half price G7 (or any other ~$500 DSLR) is that the GH4 has no recording limits!! Bonus that I definitely forgot to mention is that the GH4 shoots in .mov directly which means no more hours and hours of transcoding .mkv files to play nice with Premiere.
      I wanted to get an SLR before I got that small Canon but the limits/overheating were deal-breakers. Keep an eye out for used GH4s now that the $2,000 GH5 is out; there will probably be plenty of people unloading them.

      @eformance Před 7 lety

      Interesting, Panasonic paid the tax! I have to wonder how much of that "overheating" stuff is nonsense too. What's funny is that my cellphone has no recording limit either, so if every cellphone can record video then the "tax" is really just a bunch of horse pucky.

      I forgot to mention, Nikon is *supposed* to have a $600ish camera coming out that competes with the $1k Sony RX100. I was really interested in that and called Nikon, they seem to have put that camera on indefinite hold for some reason. EDIT: Welp, they canceled the DL series: www.nikonusa.com/en/nikon-products/premium-compact-cameras/premium-compact-cameras.page

      +EFormance Engineering That I couldn't tell ya. I wonder if it's a matter of the sensor getting warmer adversely affecting noise/image quality so they cap it to keep the footage looking nice.

    now you just need to start making more videos!

    • @ChrisDePrisco

      Yea, especially since I saw Veritasium's video he put out today that seems to indicate that CZcams's algorithms for suggesting videos is trending toward short, frequent, "trending" videos instead of longer, better quality content. czcams.com/video/03dTJ4nXkXw/video.html
      Aaannndd... I just saw Kurzgesagt commented that they are noticing it as well. More money for the guys making "clickbait" videos and less for those who actually want to work hard and make good content. :-/

      @ChrisDePrisco  Před 7 lety

      Haha, like what? I thought about trying to salvage parts but I don't think there is anything inside that isn't a custom component that could be reused. Maybe just the lens and LCD? Or do you just want to tear it apart BigClive style? :P

    Cool, but for dog's sake man, sit that plane down on its side, protect that blade!

    • @ChrisDePrisco
      @ChrisDePrisco  Před 7 lety

      +James Lamb Took me several minutes to figure out what you meant, lol. That plane is a piece of junk unfortunately. I don't even remember where I got it but it's so badly made it won't hold the blade position and is next to impossible to set the depth where you want it. It's lucky it's not in the garbage... yet. :P
