  • Jenna Bush Hager recalls being a 19-year-old college student during the Sept. 11 terror attacks. She opens up about the burden her father, former President George W. Bush, was inheriting in the days and years to come. Former chief of staff Andy Card also recalls the first night in the White House after the attacks and describes having to get the president and first lady to a bunker.

We lost a lovely couple from our old neighborhood. They were in the second plane. They were going to California to get her parents settled in assisted living. They had been married for 40 years, but they were like newlyweds. Always laughing and joking. They were truly best friends. They were the nicest people. I will never forget them.

@@liamdidonato ptsd isn't just how is portrayed on Hollywood with the sweat and nightmares. For example, for me is every time I'm on a plane I think "please nobody hijack this plane." I was a senior in high school at the time and remember desperately looking to the teachers and adults around me for reassurance. I just wanted to hear someone say “it’s alright, we’re going to be OK”… but no one did. Literally everyone was shaken and scared.
I’ll never forget or be able to fully explain how that day felt.

I too remember that day, I was at my house with my 1-month-old Twins named Zoey (Girl) and Julian (Boy), 6-year-old son named Tyler, 8-year-old son named Andrew, and 10-year-old son named Peter, I was washing the Dishes in the kitchen sink, looking over the island bar that connected the kitchen and the living room, and watching on the TV that was in the Entertainment Center that was in the corner of the living room, an Episode of "Little House on the Prairie" (When it was on the Superstation TBS at the time, and It was the Episode of when that old house that they've remade into a School for all of those Poor Blind kids, was on Fire), Zoey and Julian were taking their naps in their cribs in the nursery, Tyler was in his bedroom, sitting in his beanbag chair watching his favorite TV Cartoon show "The Fairly OddParents", Andrew was in his bedroom playing a game on his Video Game on his PlayStation 2 "Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3", Andrew was working on his PUZZ 3-D of The Titanic, I was washing the last bowl, and was putting it on the drainer, when the telephone ring, I pulled the plug out, and answered the phone, I started talking to my friend named Sarah, I was talking to her for over an hour, when I looked over my shoulder, and saw this happening, I told Sarah if she was watching it, she told me that she was, we got off the phone, I told Tyler, Andrew, and Peter not to go into the living room, I closed their bedroom doors, I also closed Zoey and Julian's Nursery door, I went back and continued watching This Happening, until my Husband Jason David returned home, I told him what had happened, he told me that he had heard, and his boss gave him and the other workers a week off.

Same here! The day after the 9/11 attacks, I remember asking my grandmother(who was watching the news) "Is everything okay now?", and I was expecting her to assure me that it was, but she never could. I was just hoping that this would all be over and we would get back to our normal lives, but that would never happen. The days that proceeded 9/11 were so dark and uncertain. I was fourteen-years-old at the time. Every time I heard a plane fly by, I was always fearful that it was another hijacking. The news headlines read "America's New War". Than there was the anthrax scare. After the 9/11 attacks I was on edge for weeks!

Later on, the teachers were hearing about what went on in New York that morning, and had to work together to make sure that no one told us, at our age, that there was a horrific act of violence going on.
I later learned that my dad was away- in New Jersey with my grandmother, and if it weren’t for her, he’d have been in great danger. Although they were told to stay put, the boss in New York decided that they would all leave She wrote an account of her experiences ,how they got away etc. She was OK for 1 week after she got back to England ,but then started to suffer from severe shock and was off work for 3 months. This happened fo very many people .
