define influence - Pep & Klopp have changed how football is played in most clubs in the Premier League, it's often either play from back, or press high up ; In recent years Pep started the inverted full back craze, which has been copied by Arsenal & Liverpool. Ferguson was phenomenally successful, but primarily played 442 - as did most of the league until 4231 became the fashion in mid 2000s. The media obsession with these clickbait type argument is ridiculous

People say Fergie was so lucky to have the class of 92 and maybe he was but so was Pep to be able to have those players like Inesta Xavi Ronaldinho all playing against the likes of Carrick Anderson and Scholes(the only one close to those guys I just mentioned) Fergie really was a beast of a manager winning the Epl with players you could swear ability wise Arsenal and Chelsea had better expecially in midfield he had Cleverly, Fletcher, Ji sung Park, Carrick and Anderson at a time when Chelsea and Arsenal had the likes of Fabregas, Lampard, Mikel-Obi, carvalho, Ramirez, Oscar, Arshavin, Rosicki, etc. Which team can you say have better midfielders than City rn? Which team can you say have better attackers than City rn? And the defence is Arguable those are the kinds of managers you're talking about one transforms the Average player into a specialist the other transforms world class players or close enough / Talents into specialists. Both were successful but the ability of Fergie to get these players punching above their weight class is amazing and yes fergie did have a few world class players himself.

  • @hungryshafi

Fergie is clear in the EPL, but Pep is definitely the more influential manager. The tiki-taka system that he popularized not only helped create one of the greatest, if not THE greatest, football team(Barca 08-12) ever but also changed the whole of Spanish football, having a direct hand in Spain winning the world cup and back to back European cups. While Fergie was a great manager, he did not have that level of influence. He was a master of the 442 system and it's variations, having established that as the leading formation of his era in the EPL. But Pep, despite walking into established sides, was revolutionary.

Go back and watch footage of how Ajax played, total football. Go back and watch footage of how Frank Rijkaard's Barcelona played. Go back and watch how even Arsenal's invincible team played and how players moved off the ball, constantly interchanging.

Just total false claims about MUFC's spending under SAF. In SAF's entire PL tenure we were only the biggest spenders in a given year just three times (3 times out of his 21 PL seasons) , we were something like only the 6th biggest spenders in the 90s overall and in the 2000s Chelsea without a doubt and i believe even Liverpool both outspent us. Pep been at City 8 years and already has a few times City being the biggest PL spenders in a given season and the season just before he got there City were the biggest spender for that year as well. Pep is a brilliant manager no doubt but tired of the false claims about MUFC's spends. We had individual record breaking deals (especially British transfer records) at a given time with a signing but we did not simply buy our success , far from it in fact. SAF was a genius who worked wonders with a lot of smart recruitment as well to bring in the needed talent / quality.

When Pep wins the treble with six academy players and the best two midfielders in the world suspended for the champions league final, then we can talk about who's most influential or who's the best manager.
Yes United spent a lot of money but most of Ferguson's success was on the back of the class of 92, how much did they cost compared to what City spent or cheated to win the treble and get to where they are.

Pep’s influence is more than Sir Alex because
    1) he invented the Busquets role
    2) He invented the possession based football
    3) Upcoming managers like Alonso and Arteta are using Pep’s playbook
    4) 08-09 UCL final Man Utd couldn’t do anything against Barcelona and both these were very close in terms of quality.
Sir Alex is still the greatest PL manager of all time due to his success over long period of time and he won leagues with the likes of Cleverley and Anderson in midfield. But Pep has more influence because of the different things he has invented in the game

Pep didn't invent the Busquets role or possesion based football at all. Look back in history.

Ferguson could only spend money generated from his success !

When Liverpool was crushing the whole league back in 2019/20 the narrative from the City fans was it was the Laporte injury that made the difference. Holy smokes! Pep literally had 350M worth of defenders (more than the total estimated value of most EPL clubs) and his cupboard was bare after one injury?!? The joke at the time was: "Do not worry. Pep will spend another 150M on defenders." You know what happened? Pep spent 150M buying defenders in summer 2020.

Is influential the correct word? On whom? Players, press, refs who? Fergie would stand up and it was about to go down. Imagine being an official and seeing you're on duty as the 4th during a United match. I'd have a pint before, halftime and at 90 min. They got the hair dryer too lol!
