This is the fastest I’ve heard Dave talk! In his videos his words are typically slow and meticulous with how he speaks, very intentional.

Dave is absolutely one of the innovators of our industry. In a time before you couldn’t go to the store and buy what you needed, Dave was inventing and fabricating. 😉

Miss my engineering days. I’d love to learn more with these folks. Looks like they know what the hell they are doing. Great shirt too.

    LOL! That's one impressive setup.
I guess it would be even better for actual good recordings and not commercial film mixes, with all their dynamic compression and distortion
    - where also the low frequency parts is mostly faked (that's why sounds like a pistol shot may have bass - they try to add "punch" to it, even after removing most of their dynamic range by compression. Other sounds that's naturally rich in bass, like for example a big rumbling V8 or ship engines, usually have the bass removed instead, as the film makers "don''t think it's an important sound"). Anyway, really nice collection of sound equipment he had there as well.

Hey man young sound engineer here. Saw those krk monitors plus sub on shelf. I'm in south africa and can't exactly afford monitors let alone nice ones. Any deals to be made?😊

120kW! Have you seen the cost of energy in the UK? Paying the electricity bill on that thing would not be relaxing. 😂

This was a semi dangerous video I'm realizing after the fact that watching this the second time in planted the seed the first time that I had a 5.1 decoder. Trying to understand 5.1 and 7.1 a bit better that I might help my local 1900s theater I needed to understand how the signal was routing through there recently installed surround sound system. Exacerbated by a recent old movie that was played they only had one channel audio yep the decoder was decoding Signals it was quite interesting. That is until about 10 minutes and when a rhythmic thumping came through the subwoofer and then 10 minutes later would go away.
Turns out when they converted the film to Blu-ray they just did a straight convert including the subsonic low-frequency control signals for left right center panning of a very very outdated quasi multichannel single channel system. There was surprisingly enough low end in the Signal but I decided to turn off the subwoofer amp because it was a little distracting and wasn't adding anything to the film with the extra frequencies.
Which led me down the rabbit hole of learning a whole lot about “Perspecta Stereo” sound something that MGM used on all of their movies between 1954 to 1958.
