Thanks for promoting the Gambia 🇬🇲 in a very positive way ❤❤❤
I’m from New York. I visited The Gambia twice this year and I LOVE IT! It gives me such peace.
They speak so many languages: Fula, Mandinka, Wolof, French and more! I can’t find translators for any of these besides French. Do you know of any?
I can give you lessons for free because I love my ppl so anytime feel free
Do you have lessons for old heads?!! 😄 I may have waited much too long to learn new languages!! 😊
@@FREETHINKER_99 please, I would love and appreciate that. Thank you. How can I reach out to you?
Well done Beautiful one, this is an Excellent account of the Gambia.
I would like to add to it a little bit.
Gambia is a 95% Muslim country, that is why the standard greeting is Assalam alikum. You will hear calls to prayer throughout the day, Every day. It is also Extremely Male Dominanted. As long as this is observed and you treat everyone, everywhere with courtesy and respect, all will be well. Networking is key to your survival here. Its not what you know, its who you know, Literally. There are a wide range of skilled Gambians and diasporians providing services countrywide you just got to seek them out.
I came here as a 40 something adult over ten years ago. I Loved it immediately, i was definitely ready! my children were grown up and gone their separate ways. I was eager to escape the cold weather and racism of the uk. Gambia is a great place to retire to. It is so peaceful. The most important aspect for me was being with my people who welcomed me at the airport saying 'Welcome Home' that for me was Priceless. I truly feel at home here. The Gambian people are notoriously kind welcoming and Super friendly. They ALWAYS offer to share whatever they have no matter how little it may be. They suffer a lot of abuse from foreigners because of their humility and kindness. Wolof is the most frequently spoken language, however a vast amount of people speak English even if its a little. I got by, at first, using body language, It never fails. Now i speak Wolof and Mandinka, not fluently, but enough to thrive and survive. I absolutely Love the markets shopping for fresh fish, fruit and vegetables, the cost is ridiculously cheap i still cant get over it compared to other regions of the world. I haggle Everywhere, with Everyone !! Its expected, so do it. If you learn the currency rates and the cost of every day items and fares, you can't get ripped off. Ask the locals the fare before you enter a taxi for example.
The weather is Great!!! Hot and dry from November to July then it Rains heavily until Late October. There are a multitude of beautiful beaches, some quaint and remote, others lively with lots of music and people. The nightlife is a vibe if thats your thing from Afrobeats to roots rock reggae, lots of love for the Rastafari movement here. Drumming is also a big part of the culture often heard at programmes and ceremonies. The food choices have definitely grown over the years, constantly developing. I dont eat rice or meat and dairy, so it can be challenging but I've had great salads even quinoa!! I enjoy cooking and eating out is not a big deal for me. But there are masses of restaurants serving great food including Nigerian, Jamaican, Chinese and Italian. Seek and you shall find. We do have water and electricity outages throughout the day every day, but you learn to live with it by utilising it whilst its there and not taking it for granted, having torches, solar lights, tea lights, battery packs, drums of reserve water in bathrooms and kitchens on standby. ....you will not die. If you staying in a hotel, these issues will not affect you. It has made me apprecilove everything so much more. I have travelled throughout my life and i must say All in all i would rather be here than anywhere else. Gambia is my haven. Dont take my word for it, come check it out for yourself. Perfect Love Y'all 💕
Thank you for letting us know about Gambia.I will be coming down for a vacation next summer.
Woww, beautiful said! Thank you for sharing your experience ❤❤ that is beautiful
The two 1/2 years living in The Gambia, it prepared me to live anywhere, I appreciate the journey and the experience
Stay. do NOT come back!
And convince all your relatives to join you. This would be a BLESSING
@@stephendise7946 you sound like a child. Learn the meaning of the word: STAY and DON'T COME BACK. Time for you to grow up. You have no Ideal where I am.
I visited Ivory Coast last month and it was a good visit and very different. I came back much more grateful and changed.
Hey Ricki!!! Your mom lives off the grid and she doesn't have to go through all that anymore☺️ I'm so glad she moved and she doesn't have to pay anymore!🎉🎉🎉🎉
Bad tornado hit Clarksville, TN. So glad you are in the Gambia!
Good video.. It is a blessing that you are talking to us about customs and otherl traditions there in Gambia
I lived in the Gambia for 10 years..its a beautiful vountry and their food most especially benachin and domoda is my favorite
Love the Gambia & before my 1st visit I found you on CZcams and your videos were so helpful. You really prepared me ❤❤

Omg when i was pregnant with my daughter in Gambia I cried for McDonald’s nuggets and when I got them i got sick 😂
Another lovely video, Ricki Denise! I am learning Wolof. It is fun to speak one of the native languages.
Oh and the dust! Wow. I was in the Gambia the last week of 2023, and I saw how far the construction had gotten sinde the summer. The dust, though. Wow. 😂
Greetings from the Netherlands!
You’re right about the greetings! Is it an African thing?! Lol I had my bonsoir, bonjour and enchantée whenever we met or encountered someone in Ivory Coast.
Very well thought out and presented, Rickie. I really enjoyed this❣️
When you talked about the bugs 😮😮.!!! I think I can deal with the cultural differences, but the bugs???? And the power outage??? I would have to really adjust
Thank you for the great advise. Great video.
Ricky in the wild lol. But u matured though, im from gambia im avoiding it until the roads are done
Beautiful sprit I'm retired I'm getting things in order to make visit my trip soon hoping to reach out
Peace/ blessing
Thank you Ricki 🌹
Regarding greeting people, where I come from, the great mid-west, we ALWAYS acknowledge people before asking a question or simply saying "hello" in the aisle of a store. It's just good manners.
OAN: I'd never live ANYWHERE that rains the way it does there. Though I love a rainy day, but I won't do days of rain nor mud everywhere 🤢😵💫😤
Thanks for the information. I plan on visiting next year.
Good to see your doing so very well
I totally enjoyed your update. Many thanks.
Thank you for watching!!❤
I enjoy your videos!
Love this video, and thats the unfortunate thing with African and South Asian countries they call it "brain drain" for those in the medical field or STEM fields in general. They can get better pay and better treatment if they relocate and, in turn, the country they leave is left without the best doctors. Hopefully more African and South Asian countries do more to retain those people cause it'll benefit their community.
On point!
😮Hey Greetings Mz, Ricki Denice ❤ How's Everything Good Season's Family" Blessings!!! Happy New You, All The Best To Ya' Have A SAFE n' WONDERFUL...2024" Enjoy Peace 🎉🎉🎉
Nice I love this! I will be there in June for my bday and will travel alone I would like to meet new people
Thanks riki, definitely you are a perfect example to learn from. If you go to Rome do as the Romans do, is as simple as that.
as an african living europe but every day heartbreaking, racisism
Ricki, It’ll be great if one or both of your brothers enroll in auto mechanic courses. They’ll make a fortune there!! 💰
It would be great, wouldn’t it! ❤🥺
After listening to your breakdown, I'm even MORE convinced, Africa is right for me.
Amerikkka has made us ALL "junkies", meaning... We all love 😋 our Junk food 😃
Greetings, we must ensure we don't take the junkie mindset to mamma Africa with us Let us leave it and similar minsets in the departure lounge and arrive to our destinations ready for change ❤❤
is time to wake up
I really enjoy the videos you and your parents do Can you do a video on the more positive things about the Gambia. If people dont understand by now how this is a up and coming country shame on them. Back in the day you would never start a conversation with out greeting some one first.I cant till i can come there and get away from this fake processes food here in america. Remeber Krispy Cream is high cholestorol and diabetes. And yes do more videos on what skills people can bring to the Gambia.
From New York ❤
Hey Queen Ricki ❤
❤❤❤❤ty!
Hi ms. Ricki I'm about your dad and mom's age but actually in most of the seemingly negative I for one see the positive in the form of a business if you have the funds it would perhaps be beneficial to yourself and the community. Always try seeing the positive even in the seemingly negative. Thanks, and have a great day.
Very great sweetie ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
In two years I'm coming to Gambia I will be staying there for a month inshallah
❤🎉
U look good
❤
We want to move to Gambia so bad, my husband is Gambian and we visit often, but the only reason why my husband refuses to go back is the health care and us having two children. He said it’s too risky, he doesn’t want to risk their lives for us to be happy, which I understand. Is it really that bad? I know he must know but he has also been gone from there since nearly 10 years
I would love to watch this video, but the volume is low
2024
❤❤❤
a hurricane destroyed parts of Clarksville you guys moved in time..
🇬🇲🇬🇲🇬🇲😍🙏
Still watching from Miami, Florida. You have been gone a long time; the Big Mc is like four dollars just for the sandwich.
I live in Alaska it’s 5.90 a meal is 12.30
Great video - thanks for sharing to the Diaspora!! Can we learn how we can purchase produce from your parent's farm? We'd like to contribute to their sustainability $$ by way of purchasing farm fresh food items ... much love ❤
Thank you for the love & support! & absolutely! ❤️Here is their email: usumburacynthia@gmail.com
You can send them a message & discuss everything they have available for sale at the moment.
👍
Whats up my friend ❤💙💚🤎🖤❤🤍🌹🌹🌹
Do people keep in door house pets there? Are there any pet shops? I live in Tokyo. Been subscribed to your channel since you moved there .
I’ll tell you what you should know too.
It’s ROUGH. if it’s not almost all mud, it’s covered in dust and sand. There’s almost nothing interesting to see, except beach…but that’s just beach. No hills, mountains, caves, waterfalls, nothing. Senegambia is just a parade of bars with western pensioners dancing with Gambian juveniles. Prepare to be hassled…3rd world style.
The people are nice, but they pray to an Arab god (spiritually colonised). The vehicle have almost zero regulation, so some of those yellow taxis have a body that’s almost separate from the chassis. The roads? Besides the 3 to 4 that are tarmac’d the remainder is like driving during an earthquake.
The food? Unless you go to their high end restaurants, you’re going to lose a tidy bit of weight. There’s little world food as unappealing as Gambian food. Then again, I’m Jamaican, so my food standards/expectations are among the highest in the world.
Trust me on this.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts! 😁
Gosh I love the sea for sure but I'm a hills and valleys person 🇯🇲 and 🇹🇿 has spoilt me BUT then again I live in Babylon Lonndon 😂
Omg you have an accent now!
Riki ,you can't be looking so good ,and Gambia is bad , your skin perfectly clean ,(smile) merry Christmas to you and your family
All what you've said is right 👍
Big Maks are 7 now by itself!
Oh danggg😂 I been gone too long then. Everything is increasing now, I forgot😩
i was stationed in clarksville Tennessee
Does The Gambia have any luxury homes or apartments and will get to visit Ghana or South Africa soon
Yes we do
Plenty of luxury homes and hotels
Good evening. Where can I purchase a luxury home. For my family and I. Kind regards.
Taf estates, search for it
The Gambia am sure it'll be better things just take time I believe
🥰 Baby…. 🤙🏾😩 ??
How is your friendsister Gaby doing?
She is doing well, I just spoke with her the other day! She definitely wants to come back soon 🥺❤️
Do you want to live there for the rest of your life?
Your parents moved everyone out there.
But whats your goals?
Also do your brothers love it there?
Hey girl happy belated birthday 🎉 do you or your parents have a email I can reach out greetings from the Sunshine state🙂
The salary for medical professionals is meager in comparison. I was looking at the salaries of medical professionals throughout Africa. It is good that the wages are low because it keeps costs down.
You'll probably live lot longer now that you've changed your diet. Food in America is what's killing us faster
Beautiful chocolate African queen 😍😍
I’ve been to The Gambia nice beaches kids friendly it was ok but wasn’t for me I’m happy I had a chance to go to Africa for first time I know a little now I saw things good and not so good but still not that bad just not for me
Thank you for sharing your experience ❤
Gambia is not ready they are to backward
The united states doesnt have clean water at all
America's food taste good because they are allowed to use alot of band chemicals and ingredients in their foods that is not legal in other parts of the world, hence the taste but its not healthy for anyone.
I want to settle down with a Gambian woman, any woman single? Inshallah I want to mingle
I’m new here moved from the Uk love to meet expats and exchange ideas 💡 anyone know where I can go and meet interesting people?
I can't believe you haven't started traveling across Africa. You are preventing your channel from growing.
Trust me, It’s already in my plans this new year. No offense, but I think It would be absolutely absurd for anyone to believe that I don’t want to travel or I don’t want my channel to grow! 😩 You should know there must be an important reason as to why I haven’t traveled just yet.
I have been to 2 other African countries, one before I started my channel, & one when I first started back in 2020 & wasn’t filming very seriously. I really am looking forward to traveling more and I cannot wait! So again, it’s definitely in my plans this 2024, & you all will see it. Stay tuned ✨🙏🏾
You should open a donut shop.
I am trying to figure out if I should do the money exchange before I get there, or when I get there, and also if it’s more resourceful to get a house for rent or hotel. It’s just myself visiting
Is that a wedding ring i see on your finger @ricki-denice?
I'm.Iterested knowing and meeting yah I live in Germany I use to live in Gambia and also dance in hotel. When I was in Gambia I'm. A Liberian and my mom I also staying there I mean u fine and I like ur style I hope we can link up thanks for all ur videos.. But I'm also a American another way bec of free slaves.. 🇱🇷🇺🇸💕💕🙏
The Greeting thing, is all African. It's Ubuntu. You don't just budge on someone without acknowledgement. In some nations (tribes) in Southern Africa, you literal have to offer a greeting while seated. Respect, respect. Remember Africans are the only full humans. Caucasians and Asians have non homo sapien sapien genes, such Neandertals and Denisovans. Africans are the OGs.
From New York ❤
