Why would they need to figure it out? They don’t focus on reliability as their customers that keep it one of the most popular car brands in the world don’t worry about that.

I like the roof… but IMO… if it doesn’t actually open, it’s kinda pointless.
I am keeping my Nori green V8. I love it and it is a keeper. Will consider this as a daily driver later down the road😊
I would say the light bar looks more Lincoln than Dodge's racetrack inspired lighting. Overall the GX is a great design....minus the tow hitch cover.
I bet there will be aftermarket covers that might make it look better.

Here in Europe and certainly in the Uk, Land Rovers, the Defender included, are considered soft roaders and beyond unreliable...... . There are many examples in the UK press about Land Rovers reliability, or better the complete lack of reliability. The cars are a money pit.
This GX is a true 4x4, body on frame and very well build, not to plush inside, if you want that Lexus has a RX or LX.

I’m on the list for an Overtrail but this thing is beautiful, just gorgeous. Definitely gonna aftermarket that HUD. I will say at 2:27 yeah, I was expecting a little more. I thought my iPad was malfunctioning it was so dark but, that’s fine. The hybrid will change the game as the Sequoia has better gas mileage(put it on the upgrade list for me). Wonder what it will be for the GX 🤔

The sequoia is a v6 hybrid the GX will be a 4 cylinder hybrid, so hybrid won’t be a plus for the GX.
Aftermarket HUD is interesting! What brand do you recommend?
Ideally I would want to swap the RX HUD into the GX if it’s possible. RX HUD is sweet, had a 2024 RX as a loaner. I thought the HUD was impressive.
For the price, the ambient lighting is completely useless.
Are you able to turn off the nanny controls that track your eye movements?
Disabling traffic jam assist I think helps

Yes you can, it’s called driver attention monitor and can be disabled under the setting cog and under driving assist

Hopefully the hybrid would lean towards improving power and performance versus just fuel economy.
There is no fuel saving with this hybrid. The MPG is 17 which is just 2 miles better than the old V8.
Can you completely turn off the screen and drive without any of the light from that huge LCD panel?
Yes entire screen can be disabled! If you turn the climate knob, only the lower end of the screen turns on to show climate control

Great review as usual.- love your analysis. Does the Sport Plus drive mode setting change the off-throttle response at all? Lexus says that it "Enhances the transmission and throttle programs" but I don't know what that means in practical terms, especially as it relates to managing downhill coasting speed or braking into a corner. I drive a Polestar Engineered 2018 Volvo XC90, and the $1200 software upgrade really helps with off-throttle driving dynamics by downshifting more aggressively.

Thank you for this. Seems the ambient lighting is good enough, not over the top. I was told at the dealership that the Overtrail has thematic lighting which is different from what you find in the other models. And its brighter. For us younger folks this would be a bit more compelling.

You should show the low and highbeams from outside and show a little bit more of the beam pattern, maybe against a wall and at the distance (in the same place for several vehicles so that we can compare)
What’s the update on tsb for the engine main bearing failure on this motor?
If you had $70-80k to spend, would you do a LC250 in LC trim w/ premium package or is it worth it pay up for some of the nice to haves (but not needs of the GX) - rear bucket seats & 3rd row, moonroof, massaging front seats, better sound system etc?
Gonna wait for a year 2 or 3 model. Hopefully some of these initial feedback items will be added and better integrated into the same trim levels

I have had the Mercedes and Audi's and wanted to move to the reliability of a Lexus. I have had a deposit on a GX 550 Luxury Plus since January. My concerns are I wanted the feel of luxury and handling of German products without the lack of dependability. My concerns are the ride and noise at acceleration and kind of a stark interior. Is there any way you see some of these shortcoming being fixed in the 2025 model year. I am not really speaking of the interior but the drivability and noise and heads up display? When would you guess a 2025 model could possibly be released? I really appreciate your thoughtful and through reviews. Thanks for all the hard work you put into your reviews.
NVH can improve year over year with better build quality. HUD isn't getting updated. I wouldn't need it.

Welcome to body on frame Toyota/Lexus SUV’s. 3 of 4 I’ve owned have had similar issues, including both a new LX & GX. Just funky, odd, hard to smooth out drivetrain resonances, alignment issues & weird tires.
Yep= DO NOT BUY the first production year of a model no matter the source of the manufacturer. The 2nd and 3rd GX 550 model years will be very much improved over the 1st year model. Also, the hybrid will be available.
Buy now, swap out. That's what I'll do. Life is short.
Area of Improvement: Interior cabin lighting just like Mercedes Benz does!
Some basic ambient lighting will really wake up the interior. Idk why lexus is always against it.

I sat in one of these and it felt cheap. I usually lease and drove Range Rover suv, BMW X7, Mercedes GLS and Escalade but Lexus GX and TX feels cheap. Most might think it’s an upgrade if there coming from Toyota or standard brands but it feels cheap especially if your paying almost $90K
1.GX is not a range Rover or X7 rival instead a luxurious and rugged SUV like a defender 110. 2.TX and GX interior is very luxurious high quality and more. So how you felt is wrong and not accurate. Overall you are wrong and that's fine .I respect your different opinion even if it's wrong

Well I sit in all those vehicles and driven those vehicles since I leased a few and few family members also and I could tell you the TX feels cheap for $70K and the GX feels cheap for $90K. There great if you only care about reliability but you can’t say nothing much about them since the Germans basically beat them in every other way, lol I’m not fat I’m skinny so it fit easily in the seats.

The interior of this vehicle looks so cheap and boring. The old GX 460 was much more luxurious than this. This just looks like a Toyota.
No, the doors don’t close because they’re lightweight and cheap not because “they’re so tight “!😅 Now all the German competing vehicles have soft close feature so you don’t even have to slam the door . The lack of ambient lighting in this new lineup of GX and TX is very underwhelming missed opportunity considering the price ,not to mention all the soft touch plastics and molding all one blob of grey and black with no accent stitching makes everything look cheap. I’m surprised Lexus screwed up the interior this bad everything feels subpar. The space is poorly managed and the GX over trail+ has the ground clearance of a brand new Toyota Prius for an off-road trim that’s horrible. Not joking a Prius has 8.0 ground clearance an Over Trail+ has 8.9 !!! .9 could be added to a Prius with bigger wheels 😅 .
Prius ground clearance is 6 inches
