As someone who knows HiFiman's build quality and quality control, him bending it and twisting them had me sweatin ngl
Seriously. Handle them the way he is in this video for a week or two and they will most definitely end up broken lol. I went through 3 brand new pairs before getting one that wasn't defective- from driver failure to faulty headband.
@@lockjaw333 I've had my 2022 revision pair for about a month and I swear I treat it with more care than I do with some of my camera gear worth 2-4x the price lmfao. Hopefully your new pair is serving you well?
He literally dropped the he400se when he was reviewing them 💀
I'm considering buying ths Sundara.
I have a SoundblasterX G6, is it enough to properly power-up these headphones??
At 2:21 there is a plastic cracking sound as he is twisting them, pretty sure he cracked one of the side pieces where they adjust, do not do this to these, and they will be fine, otherwise no.
I think its weird that Sundaras arent more commonly reviewed as a gaming headphone, they seem to have every factor that would be in a top tier gaming headphone from response, to dynamics, soundstage and imaging. Its the best listening headphone under $700 and yet its never marketed as a gaming headphone.... It might not come stock w /a mic but you might as well get a mic cable for one~
Oh wow you finally got to review these! Nice. Great vid as always. I use "higher end" headphones but I still love how the Sundara sounds, great sound and build for the price
The build is not good , cable is terrible, pads are also terrible they keep glue off , and a lot of drivers have miss match loudness . all these are known . Unfortunately i had those problems but Hifiman warranty is great.
@The Techne I wasn't able to get the info from your video, so I thought I would just ask you: Between the VZR Model One and the Hifiman Sundara, which has the better imaging? Which would you use for CoD or Battlefield?
What are your thoughts on these vs the Penroses? You made the planar magnetic comparison vs the higher end audeze but not with the similar priced Penroses
You are slowly becoming an audiophile with the things you like XD And i wholly agree with it, a proper headphone with a good amp is the best option for gaming... even if i do use a razer kraken v3 hypersense too :P
lol
You can try HiFiMAN XS, it is an upgraded version of sundara.
I loved my Sundaras. I will one day own them again.
My grandad has a pair of these and I may have temporarily requisitioned them to play some atmospheric games
God DAMN these are some good headphones
do these heads set sound better then the audeze lcd gx for gaming?
Hey i just wanted to ask…between Razer Blackshark V2 X and Steel Series 3 which one is the best headset option?
Have you ever had the Philips Fidelio X2HR and if so, what do you think of it for gaming?
great video. i feel the same about my HE400i
How does this compare to HifiMan HE400SE which you previously recommended. I bought those.
You fucking did it my boy! I knew you’d come thru Techne I was harping you about this one, thank you sir I appreciate everything you do! I own this and love them, put they absolutely require an amp, without it they don’t sound half as good or have the volume.
Yo Techne excellent review! please review asus rig strox headset, h1 and h3 as well.
Hello The techne ! have you seen the new steelseries nova 7p and 7x ? 1p and 1x ?
Great video as usual. It would be so cool to see one video of yours comparing open-back headphones for gaming. We have now the Sundara, LCD-GX, VZR One (not sure if this is an open-back), and the Sennheisers, of course. Stay safe.
great review always love watching these are your so honest, what would be the best closed back headphones for gaming
I love all audeze, and Meze
How do these stack up against the Audeze Penrose/Mobius purely based on sound for gaming + music listening? I'm getting the Mobius soon but these look interesting as well.
these are significantly better. but a good amp/dac will take them to another level.
I own Hifiman Arya Stealths and Focal Clear MGs, and I actually find the Sundara more enjoyable than both. Arya has more bass but much more hollow or distant mids. Treble is spicier to me too on the Arya. Clears sound absolutely incredible, but they're.... overwhelming? The dynamics are so good, but because of that- they really just throw all the sound at you. The Sundara are more tame and neutral. Some might say boring. I like them because they work for everything. I also find the sundara more comfortable than both the others because the ear pads are so soft and supple. Focal is noticeably heavier (probably because of the headband structure), and the earpads on the arya are more firm and scratchy on my skin.
What dac/amp are you using them with? 🙂 Thx
@@arguelles7 I have a modi 3 with an Asgard 3
@@avatahr7547 I'm considering buying the Sundara.
I have a SoundblasterX G6, is it enough to properly power-up these headphones??
Got a pair of these refurbished for $200 that I'm listening to this on. Love these headphones so far. I eq them a little bit to add some bass and it's perfect.
This definitely has the best detail retrieval but i get better positional audio from my audio technicas
what audio technicas do you use
Ive been watching your videos to figure out what the best wireless headset for gaming under $250. Close back. I play alot of fps.
I highly recommend the Hiffiman Edition XS too Techne, Youll love it more
testing em as we speak ;)
@@TheTechne aw shit. u are using better and better stuff then that gaming garbage headsets.
@@FlowState194 i would buy audio technica but my budget is kinda limited because i need mic too. mx40x are nuts option i dunno if my man techne reviewed them but at 100€-$ price range are really nice.
Yo first of all nice Quality Videos u got there , keep up the good work :). Love ur videos.
Could you please do a Logitech g432 vs Hyperx Cloud 2 Wired , i cant wrap my head around ... i want to know if i should change to the Hyperx Cloud 2...
What aout the Beyerdynamic - DT 700 Pro X ? Why are these not in here?
Hey techne what is the best 75% keyboard right now?
this is great headphone. i own it know for 3 month. i can say use this with dolby atmos get a experience that you never had before. they need mix amp like astro amp is fine or go xlr or fire fly something to dive the sandura you get the most out off it
will the Cayin RU6 run them thats what i have and i just bought these. i run my Meze 99 on low gain 25 vol. so im sure itll be ok right?
I have the Sundara and I use them for music mostly. I tried them once with Insurgency Sandstorm and they did not sound right to me. Maybe I was just too used to my Fidelio X2HR's. My main currently has been the Audeze Penrose with the Techne wicked cushion mod of course!
I'm considering buying the Sundara.
I have a SoundblasterX G6, is it enough to properly power-up these headphones??
@@princesmith8008 Yes
@@jasmosanew6146 But have you used them with G6?
@@princesmith8008 I have not used a G6, but it should be powerful enough to drive the Sundara's. I have seen other reviews using the G6 with other HifiMan headphones like the HE-4XX and the G6 can also drive studio grade monitors. I would not purchase a G6 just for music with the Sundara, but if you already have one, and you game, then yes the G6 will drive them.
@@jasmosanew6146 I see, and how is the bass in these cans??
And are there any other open-back headphones with great bass??
I know open-backs aren't exactly known for bass but still...
Guys how are these compared to HiFiMan HE400SE for gaming? I usually play compeitive fps games like Valorant/CS:GO
They are coming out with closed back Sundara's which you may be interested in.
really? I will be looking into these for sure
@@TheTechne yeah, just tagged you on Twitter.
@@unotsolucky what are they called?
I shared that experience when I tried to game with an open back headphone, Philips shp9500. Sounds great, but everyone can hear my game lol
Ehi Techne why don’t you play Elden Ring??? Anyway will you choose HiFiMan or VZR??
Can you test the Tygr 300r
Have the 300r. LOVE them. Only thing that sucks is the lack of a mic.
I need to
Another amazing video
Will this give a better edge in foot steps for games like csgo an valorant
no
will my Cayin RU6 run these off ipad mac..?
Arya stealth or lcd-gx 4 gaming?
Do you get a sound from a dsd or cellphone
what about the epos h6pro ? comparison
So closed back is better for competitive?
are you using a dac/amp with this or plug it straight into the console? thanks
console, pc amp
@@TheTechne a console won't power them, these need a dedicated amplifier with a lot of power
@@rokiedecentra9656 no they don't. an amp/dac will definitely bring out the cans full potential, but these are easy to drive and work off a phone or controller no worries.
these were my entry into the audiophile world and they still amaze me like a year later. At first they sound weird and feel uncomfortable but the more you listen the better they sound to your ears and the comfort also gets much better over time. worth every penny ten times over. As far as gaming goes, open backs are the most realistic sounding, but IEMs are the best for hearing footsteps from far away and that is why most pros wear them under their gamer headphones. Headphones are better for imaging (hearing where people are coming from) so you'd think they would be better than IEMs but pros still pick IEMs for some reason. Unless you are a pro gamer you should just use whatever sounds best to you (once you have tried open backs for a few months in a quiet room) because the advantage you get from IEMS is so small.
The pros use the iems that the gaming brands sponsor them.
And on top of those iems, they wear helicopter headphones to isolate themselves from the noise of the public.
These sundaras do not isolate anything, so only if you live in a house by yourself and without neighbors or noise, will they be useful for gaming.
That the iems are later better than these Sundara, will depend on the iems model they are. Certainly not cheap ones.
@Teriyaki a headset is a headphone plus mic.
Wether it's IEMs or headphone it does not matter when it comes that whatsoever
@@BALTDGuitar ?
@@CombatBanana as an owner of several high end headphones and IEMs the differences are the same as comparing other headphones you just happen to hear IEMs that do footsteps better.
I love mine. But for music only. For gaming, I don't like them that much. It doesn't emphasize the sounds I want enhanced, and they're heavy.
man they were a blast playing wildlands
Do I need an amp for my sundaras?
Can these be powered by ps5 controller, working properly without an amp.many thanks.
they can, but ion course everything sound better with an amp
i got my sundaras last week it is the most comfortable headphone i ever have owned. off course they are heavy but it is well balanced, and dosent hurt my head as bad as my 1770 did. i love them.
you gave me an near heart attack when you banded that headphone so bad, i would never do that to mine
How are the bass in these?
@@arthurikk if you are a basshead you might look somewhere else. But for me the clearity is really good and would say the bass is better over my 1770. For an open back the bass is suprising strong and does have a nice punch. But its not s subwoofer for sure
I am planning to buy it and have never used the open ones before. I live in hostel with other people around me and had doubts about how bad the sound bleeding out was. And what amplifier do you use
what is the nest gaming headset for pc in ur opinion??
Audeze Penrose and Epos H6Pro
PC38X. the penrose sound great but has serious quality control issues. I haven't tried the Epos.
Hello. I really have a headache to buy a headset and i need your recommendation for you as a reviewer or a viewer of your who owns a headset at the requirements i will say below: My budget is around 80 bucks . My headset cushion got wrecked after 1.5 year of gaming it was at 23 bucks it had one of the best mics i have ever witnessed for real on a gaming tag headset (Zeroground keiji) . My requirements are : Decent to good mic, good sound ,Good ear cushions not searching for headset at 2 years and the most basic for me is the usb connection. Thanks for your time and sorry for my pretty bad English cause it's not my native language. If i had unlimited budget i would buy audio technica mx 40 with a hyper x solocast or razer seiren but my budget is limited
the only headset that i have on my mind atm is hyper x cloud ii because of the extra cushions But i need some other options with better or similar specifications to have comparison
@@addictedonhiphop hyper X cloud II is a pretty good one. My son has them. But you could take a look at the Philips SHP9600 apparently (not tested) as some reviewers seem to like it.
I'm looking at:
- Fidelio X2HR
- Sennheiser HD560s
- AKG702 (or 701)
Prices really depend a lot on where you live though.
bruh everytime u slam ur hand on the table I legit feel it in my ear
Which is better, this or Arya?
Which is better thought this headset or the EPOS H6 Pro
sundara hands down. epos is better for the price, sundara you need a mix amp exstra cost go up from there if money is not a problem get the sundara dolby atmos and mix amp your golden for year to come
Corsair hs80 or G pro x
been using them for gaming for over 2 years now.
And gimme mini review,im on X2HR atm
It's so weird that you'd say closed back is more immersive. Nobody else is saying that. Nobody is saying open back is more competitive. Closed back is. Open back is more immersive because the sound stage is wider and imaging is better, giving you a better since of where sounds are coming from and how far away they are. Closed back is more precise because is brings most sound into the foreground making it all easier to hear, like footsteps in an FPS for example. Open back also tends to be more accurate which is what you want want with immersive gaming, where as closed back tends to exaggerate certain frequencies, which can be a disadvantage if it's the low end, but advantageous if it's the mids or highs.
Of course to be fair if your environment is noisy, if you have a loud computer or console or you live with a bunch of other people, then the script is turned on its head and closed back wins for immersion every time.
which is best in overall sound?
sundara vs audeze mobius?
Mobius. I found the Sundara lacking in bass; it's okay if you prefer neutrals.
Audeze all the way. Like the other comment I find hifiman just lacking. They're REALLY open and sound just bleeds super bad. If you want open back check Sennheiser 6xx's, they're open but bleed sound a lot less.
Audeze
I own booth, depends what you're gaming on. without amp/dac they're pretty close. with amp/dac sandara's by a mile.
Yeah, I love em but just for music. Its like having a (heavy) radio in your head even my friends can hear my headphones through discord from time to time... They are pretty expensive and need an amp so I believe they are not very good for gaming in general but yeah, they sound amazing no doubt of that, specially with a little bit of EQ.
Thats very true they leak sound a loooot , and i mean i have other Open backs and they dont leak sound like those.
try it with dolby atmos my g
I'd be the same as you. I love them for music but don't use them for gaming at all. One of my favorite pair of headphone's in my collection.
Theyre mid for gaming at best. Low end rolls off way too early, soundstage is fine but imaging (picking out where footsteps are around you with pinpoint accuracy) is behind a dozen cheaper headphones.
Get the cheaper model for around $100 if you want to give planar magnetic tech a try. Also, to get the most from planar magnetic you need to give it plenty of power.
What cheaper model?
Unless you got the audeze Penrose. Then you're covered
@@mzrylovesgaming he400se which are about 130USD but you need a good amplifier which is another 100USD minimum like a Schiit Magni
How mamy ohms
@@jasonemanuel9070 I’m not sure about the ohms. But it has really low sensitivity so it’s hard to drive regardless. And that’s for both 100 dollar and the 350 dollar one
LETS GO!! Use open back for the competitive advantage! Confirmed by Techne. Also everyone gets to enjoy the game with you. Even though you are fully immersed and not paying attention the them, they can hear everything you can. Like regular speakers , but you wear them on your head! Lol in all seriousness looks like a nice headphone.
it sounds like a dang house party when Im using these things, lol
How much better sound quality compare sony mx 1000xm5 headphones both are flagship headphones
If you are comparing audiophile headphones to the Sony's then you need to go and try some good headphones. The Sony's just have boomy bass and don't sound great. These are on another level but are made for a different purpose, these are not flagship headphones, these are on the lower end of hifiman headphones
lol, they are not even close. the xm5's have atrocious sound, scooped to nonexistent mids, muddy boosted bass. they do have excellent NC, battery life and build quality though. the sundara's are entry level cans too, they're a long way from "flagship"
I upgraded from akg k7xx to sundaras. Running then via an evga sound card into an ifi zen can amp.
LOVE them for gaming and tv shows.
Nova pro wireless or Astro A50?
Nova pro Wired, lol
I believe Sennheiser HE-1 is great for gaming too.
Too much detail
@@dontbeedgy I bet Techne would recommend ))) And STAX 009 as a budget alternative)
did you test it for many hours??
yes I have been using them for almost a month
What do you do with all these headsets after you review them? You must have a never-ending supply of headsets 😂
I just can’t get behind circular headsets. Our ears aren’t a circle, so they never feel like a good fit to me.
these are so big so I didn't have that issue
@@TheTechne yeah, I had an issue with the Virtuoso cause of the circle earcups and super light clamping force. So I’m sticking with my basic HS70’s until I find something worth the price. I do my shopping based on your videos haha
HD 800s?
the undisputed king of gaming headsets. expensive though.
Sundara needs an amp, a decent amp. It's great for Hifi music, but i won't recommend it for gaming
Techne hates when people say open backs give you a competitive advantage. I hate subjective mumbo jumbo words like "immersion" when reviewing tech. We all have our quirks. 😉
Yeah fuck immersion. Games aren't meant to be fun.
Other people say nooo it sucks for gaming...
As an owner of this headphone for a year now I can say most negative stuff people say about these is complete hogwash. Use them for everything and they perform exceptionally well.
I don't regret buying them whatsoever and after a year of almost daily use the earpads are still in good shape they really haven't compressed at all, the drivers have not failed and the headphone has not fallen apart in my hands as so many people like to claim.
Had significantly worse experiences with Beyerdynamic like honestly they are junk compared to the Sundara maybe the DT 900 PRO X are an improvement but the frequency responses curve of that looks a bit meh and none of Beyers headphones are really fully open which is something I 100% want.
Yes there is some play in the headband of the Sundara that wasn't there when I bought them new but I don't know about that for sure... its not affecting anything though.
I might buy some replacement pads soon just to have them and to see if they improve the sound.
The problem is this headphone sucks you into the Hifi World which means spending 200$ on a Topping DX3 Pro + and 70$ Tripowin upgrade cable. Because they really need a 200$ Amp to reach their full potential 😅
I have them for Years , Build quality is not Good. My cable broke, The pads are glue off i am on a third pair of pads, And also there is unbalance on L+R channel on most Sundara that i know.
they fix it with new batch you can sent them back for repair get new pair they have good warranty
@@milkywayxd1803 Yeap i know they have already change 2 times, They have amazing Warranty thats true.
Actually they're not. The directional imaging is mediocre at best. Separation, detail etc are great, but that's not what you need for competitive fps. AKG K 240 is far better for example.
Those are heavy. Just get the HD560S.
You can finally say audeze😉🤣
🇧🇷👇✌️😉🥇🥇
Only interested if they’re “Stinkin Cozy” …🤔
These are heavy AF. Sold them on eBay after 2 months of use.
they are not Cozy , they are heavy but they sound nice
@@Tripokaridos22 Yeah you must have a thick neck strong like bull. Anything can sound nice but wtf is the point if you can wear for extended periods of time. Defeats purpose.
@@jcap8391 Yeah i know i cant wear them over 1 hour , no way . I mostly use my HD660s they are very light and after some use the pads and pressure is just amazing.
