    Ep. 1 Welcome To Mississippi
Lateshia is busy planning her upcoming Southern Belle Brunch, bringing together Jackson, Mississippi's successful women entrepreneurs. Her brunch quickly turns left, however, when two guests get into a heated exchange.
    Ep. 2 Wigs and Waffles
Tambra helps Lateshia move closer to her Farish Street dreams, while Antoinette attempts to move past her divorce. Later, Marie and Latrice have another run-in at Tambra's birthday party.
Ep. 3 Sisters in the Struggle
Lateshia and Antoinette embrace new challenges, and Tambra is pressured by the idea of having children. Latrice clashes with Cliff as her new business partner, and Marie is forced to confront problems in her marriage and with her oldest son.
    Ep. 4 Bad Brunch Behavior
Tambra has to decide whether to pursue a career or start a family. Meanwhile, Marie attends counseling with her son Jerrez. Lateshia hopes to share her Farish St. vision at her next brunch, but racial tensions threaten to ruin her announcement.

Kaylon discredited all of their experiences while making herself the victim and their response was to coddle her and wipe her “white tears”. For her to speak for ALL white ppl and say “we don’t feel that way, we don’t talk about you all like that” shows her lack of openness and belief in their experiences. I’m from Jackson and know a couple of them personally and I really wanna touch on a lot of what you and some of the other commenters said but it’s just not enough space here to do it! 😩 I’m reviewing the show if anyone would like to hear the perspective of someone who lives in Jackson, but I will say this - most African Americans have roots in Mississippi and lots of what we ALL enjoy now was born in some form or fashion in Mississippi. I find it interesting when people clown us. We are one of the cornerstones (if not THEE cornerstone) of the Civil Rights Movement and the nightmare of any Black person dating back to slavery. The fact that these women and others like us even EXIST in Mississippi is a miracle. Put some respect on The Sipp. We have to work a million times harder here, we have to fight for ANY representation, let alone positive and FAIR representation, we are overlooked for opportunities (as you mentioned) and when we do have half of something and try to be excited about it, it still is lackluster at best. I think some of the local creatives could have done a much better job at producing, shooting and editing it. No one can really capture the culture and the people doing amazing work like we can and we would’ve won you over lol. I’m trying to be optimistic about the show but I do agree with a lot of what you said and I have some theories on why they (the cast) went along with this format and agreed to play their different characters. Lastly, let’s not act like big city fashion and weave is all that great on every show or in every city. I’ve seen busted weaves and late fashion in Miami, Atlanta and everywhere else you can name. They need some work now, definitely not arguing against that, but all ima say is... they only represent themselves, not us all, and the one who seems to really have what she is portrayed to have is the best dressed. ☕️

I must admit, I was a little skeptical about this show coming out because even in TX, I'm still very protective of the image of home since people have terrible preconceived ideals of what Jackson is like today. I'm not crazy about how these women are behaving on the show, but I'm not sure about how much of it is them cutting up for the cameras and how much is just the overused, tired reality format that Carlos King continues to shove down our throats. I am born & bred Mississippian as well and now living in MN. THANK YOU for expressing so well what we MS people feel about representation and about our contributions to the Black experience from civil rights activism, music, food, culture, traditions, etc. Those generations of the Great Migrations still carry those MS roots and culture (and accent hybrids) - whether they admit or not. It is there.
So, I hate to hear people downing MS and it's sister state AL when so much of our history and foundations are tied to those 2 states.
Put some respect on those 2 states. And celebrate when those states get a moment to shine in the spotlight for good things...for diamonds in the rough...for some successes occurring there.
It may not be as fancy as NY or CA, but worthy of some spotlight for things other than "pain" or "racism"...which obviously still occur other places today (MN's George Floyd & Philando Castille...just as poignant as MS Medgar Evers and Emmitt Till...and shows that other parts of the country have racism & pain...not only the South.)

I also agree that there should have Bern some MS filming crew and editors who would have given a better treatment of what was showcased and filmed. It would have shown what was unique and special about that area.
They could have filmed some community involment of the many Black businesses, community groups, and the HBCUs there, etc. Instead of saying they represent "Jackson"...when they are also representing the surrounding suburbs/cities, too. That way viewers can see that there are several cities in that area doing well. That this is a collective of cities doing great things as part of Capital city Jackson & surrounding areas...

Though that may be true, but to say that then turn around and say that the white girl was selfish for them crocodile tears doesn’t make sense to me. I don’t watch the show but based of what you’re saying, especially her living in Mississippi and just how the “poor white woman” act been played over and over again. I’m not going to accept that she was clueless at the moment she’s not dumb she’s playing weak to dilute the struggles we face and those women felled for it.

Antoinette's ex-husband is from Forest, Mississippi, and his father was a dentist there. Antoinette's first dental practice was with her husband in that town. Forest is a small town about 50 miles east of Jackson and is very different. Trying to deal with an interracial marriage in a small town like that would be far more difficult than in the Jackson Metro area. Interracial relationships aren’t that common in Jackson, but they’re not unusual neither, but Forest is an entirely different story. You’re more likely to see interracial marriages on the Gulf coast (Gulfport/Biloxi)

As someone from Jackson, Mississippi, this show is as tired, thrifty, through, and delayed as the city itself. There's a lot of good there, but there's a whole lot of bad too (poverty, jealousy due to the sharp economic stratification, crime as a result of said poverty and jealousy, limited mindsets due to the lack of good education and lack of exposure to different things), and it reflects in the production and attitudes of the women on the show. They're really trying to portray something that they're not, and trying to portray Jackson as something that it’s is not. I left there almost 20 years ago and only come back to visit family every now and then and leave ASAP.

    • @assaultislove
      @assaultislove Před 3 lety +4

@@louise-yo7kz I agree, but it’s going to take a whole hell of a lot to get things going in Jackson. Not only are the issues of poverty, crime, and divestment an issue, but Jackson has to deal with a hostile, mostly white and republican state government who really have no desire to help improve Jackson and do what they can to improve the place - they’re pretty much waiting for all the black people to either leave or kill each other TBH. Unlike Atlanta (which deals with similar circumstances being in Georgia) there’s not a huge corporate base or a critical mass of creative people or moneyed people who can overshadow that. The locals are also pretty resistant to any changes and improvements that could be made, and there’s far too much infighting between black people in the city to really look at the big picture and take care of the business at hand. Mississippi is also mostly rural and agrarian, doesn’t have much industry attracting people from out of state to relocate there, plus most people in the state look to Memphis and New Orleans as their “big cities” to go to and really don’t check for Jackson like that. A lot of people in the state live closer to Memphis or New Orleans and they’re easier to get to for them than Jackson is. The only way I see Jackson having a boom or a sustained period of growth is when other southern cities get too expensive to live in and people look to places like Jackson. I predict Memphis is going to have a mini-boom because Nashville has gotten really expensive and a lot of locals have left for other cities that are cheaper. But there’s going to have to be a united front between the local government in Jackson and the State government of Mississippi to really turn things around in terms of attracting high-paying jobs, educated people, and people with deep pockets.

I looked up Kaylon's great great father - Jefferson Davis. Remember Antoinette said Kaylon's family do not treat or talk about black ppl in a bad manner... Well according to Google he was a SLAVE OWNER and a CONFEDERATE president... Her family is still rooted in this.. IMO Kaylon is a typical Karen!!!! She thought her tears were enough to shift the focus of the conversation to another topic (which it didn't). Also, I think that was part of the reason she came for Marie like that, just another white tactic to shift the conversation..

Oddly I like Antoinette separately from the group. She is an accomplished young woman, but she's quite elitist. I feel she feels that since she's the most "educated", she's the most supreme. She loves to acknowledge how she's always the minority in all of the spaces that she occupies, yet she will quickly become an apologists as well as downplay the experience of other black people in the south. But like you said, this probably isn't her ideal group, and maybe her full self isn't being shown.

I grew up in a small town in East Texas. The fact that these black women even had this white woman at the brunch didn't sit well with me. And if she was gonna attend, she should have just sat there and took in her friends experience and not make it about her. I also feel that a true friend/sister/supporter would have took control of that situation; meaning Antoinette should have removed her and her white buddy bc that's HER friendgirl and the other one should have took back control of her luncheon. Marie should not have had to do that but she stepped in bc the that's her friend and it was about something greater than a white woman having a breakdown.
