Agreed. With other similar Ross clips the pauses seem very unnatural. Acting. Here, the pauses seem all too natural. Like everyone is actually without words to respond, and are thinking to themselves "It didn't work. Please stop, dude." ... And then Chandler's save is legit.
I think you can actually feel the uncomfortableness of who ever Ross is talking to with out the laugh track. The laugh track softens the blow, with out it you understand how that person feels. Lmao this is so weird.
Well obviously, laugh tracks are designed to make you laugh, how can you honestly laugh when it's being shoved in your face?! Besides, laugh tracks only really allow jokes to translate certain ways, seriously the worst.
This is genuinely uncomfortable. Like even the dialogue from the delivery person feels different, like she's frightened and trying to placate him until she can leave.
Fun fact: laugh tracks were invented when executives noticed that the studio audiences weren't laughing. In typical network exec fashion, they decided this couldn't be because the jokes weren't funny, they must be going over the audience's heads. So they added laugh tracks. So that viewers would know when something funny has happened and they should laugh. Hilariously they've gone from explaining the joke to "that was the funny part"
yeah but i don’t think anyone watches a sitcom and busts up laughing at every bit. most people smile or chuckle throughout the duration and get a pretty good laugh at least once. that’s about what they should aim for anyways, you don’t have to get a full aerobic exercise from laughing to feel happy when a show is on. out of all the things that have made me laugh really fucking hard, like laughing so hard i start crying and wheezing, it’s never been a sitcom. at least not a live action one, shit like adultswim cartoons can get that kind of reaction out of me once in a while
SNL used [laugh] signs to tell the live audience to laugh, the way Norm MacDonald used to drop the worst joke he could think of and lean in to it was golden

@fakezinhuw5389 I didn’t mean to suggest that a real audience does not exist, nor do I mean to suggest that all laughter is fake and must be some grand conspiracy. I’m just saying I’ve seen plenty of sitcoms in my time and if you really listen closely you can tell the same clips of laughter have been used repeatedly over the course of several different shows for several years.
