I must admit that I haven’t watched any of MDB’s stuff before, but putting aside the pseudo-rivalry that Jrose and MDB seem to be having, he likely has a different target audience. It’s okay to not mesh with certain content creators for whatever reason, but it’s not cool to try to slag those on the other side of the fence for being fans and/or are viewers of that channel, as this is how comment threads derail into toxicity in the first place, creating massive flame wars. The same likely occurs in reverse assuming it isn’t a one way street, and I can appreciate that banter is great fun, but as Jrose has said in a previous episode (Rattata, I believe?), there is a line that needs to be drawn, and it’s up to us to dictate where it is.
So weird to see Giovanni being the thorn in the side. Part of why I love these runs is every Gym Leader/major battle has their time in the sun where they're difficult or super easy.

"What is the weakest Pokemon that I can beat Bruno with?" would be a cool challenge. You don't have to beat the whole game up to Bruno with the weak Pokemon, just bring a series of weaker and weaker Pokemon to beat Bruno with. I'd bet it can be done with a level 30 Bellsprout.

If only Ponyta had been a Bro-nyta... but instead, it was a Phony-ta 😔

What a wild ride! And a nice showing that, despite getting dunked on so much out of the gen I eeveelutions for its terrible move pool, flareon is still a force to be reckoned with, even if it made for a challenging and crazy run!
Fun Fact: For some reason, Body Slam can not paralyze Normal Types! This is just a thing in Gen 1.
what it actually is is that pokemon cannot become statused by moves matching their type, since body slam is a normal type move it cannot cause paralysis to normal type pokemon. funny enough this means tri-attack which can cause paralysis, burn and freeze is able to burn fire type pokemon and freeze ice type pokemon, but cant trigger these effects on normal type pokemon
@@LiroRaeriyo That's the real reason, but there are exceptions. For example, Thunder Wave can paralyze Electric types even though it's an Electric move (probably because it's a status move).
@@LiroRaeriyo Tri Attack did not do that at all in gen 1
@@LiroRaeriyo It would have been cool if not for the fact that tri-attack did not have any secondary effect in gen 1. Also, this rule only apply to secondary effect moves (hence why you can use Thunder Wave on electric types for example) with the exception of poison status, that only checks if the opponent is poison type (Basically it means the bug type move twineedle can give the poison status to pure bug types).

I can see Vaporeon doing really well - it starts with water gun, can get body slam before Misty if needed, has a stab Bubblebeam for the “middle” section of the game, and gets Ice Beam in Celadon. And then it gets Acid Armor, which is like a Reflect + Badge Boost.
For the Elite4, the set BodySlam/DoubleEdge - Surf - IceBeam - AcidArmor struggles only against Lorelei (but she cannot hit Vaporeon very hard), and against Agatha, where the high base hp will help a lot in mitigating the “lottery” side of it. The only thing missing is a bit more of speed for the critical hit chances.
Starmie.
I’m fairly confident starmie could run show.
Edit: hear me out
Good typing (Psychic/water)
Good Speed: 115
Good Special: 100
Starts with stab Water Gun which is 40 power. Can replace with Surf.
Thunderbolt you get from surge, the TM for psychic and IceBeam you get half way through.
Brock is gonna be breeze, misty will be meh.
Surge will be the only tough part, the rest of the game should be Easy With a good offensive attack that’s super effective for probably 90% of the Pokémon you encounter for the rest of the run.
Honestly if you get bubblebeam from Misty beforehand and get some proper levels in and he shouldn't be hard.
@@ssjbread2803 that’s true, forgot about bubble Beam from Misty. STAB 65 power move hits pretty good.
I’d still eventually replace it for surf, only because surf is 95 power. But BubbleBeam will def rock the early game.
At level 30 Starmie should be able to 1-shot pikachu & Voltorb with bubble beam.
Raichu is level 24, should be a 2 hit kill.
Yeah, your right. Starmie should handle it easily.

Jrose I have at this point watched more hours of your content than I have anything on Netflix (other than breaking bad) and that to me and I'm sure many others just goes to show how great of a content creator you are. Best timing, was just looking for a video before bed - cheers from Australia!
I can't think of anything to say this early so I'll ask a question. Reckon you'll get to all 151 in Gen 1 or, just most of them?
Probably most of them. I dont see him doing charmeleon and charizard just because he already beat the game with charmander
@@signusthewizard9847 I disagree I feel like he will do Charizard. Just not the middles.
I feel like there's no need to do it with something like caterpie either, because it can't hit ghosts in any way, just like magikarp. You're basically soft locked at pokemon tower and you know it'll happen from the very beginning, so what's the point in starting the run?
But he can do: how fast you can beat the game with charizard

I feel like vaporeon will go pretty good. In my opinion the best eveelution in gen 1 lets see how it fares.
I think it will have the same problems squirtle had. Its stats are more defensive, so longer fights will bleed him slowly
@@Krazymaddog Well the Brock fight should be even easier and the Gyrados less scary. Water is generally a strong type. But it'll likely have similar problems with Agatha due to lacking speed. And it'll have to rely more on special moves than Flareon.
@@Rork310 I agree with you on brock and gyrados. But squirtle had a lot of problems mid game, especially with kogan, erika, and sabrina, as well as lorelai and Agatha. I dont even think bruno was a one hot sweep, due to weak stats. I'm predicting slightly better performance because I think vaporeon has greater special and speed than squirtle, due to it being evolved.
@@Krazymaddog Well yes but the only stat Squirtle has over Vaporeon is Defence by 5 points. Considering it's massive HP and strong special I don't see them being that big of a deal except for maybe Erika.
I do think some time will be lost in the mid game compared to Flareon but I think the end game will be a lot easier.
I think Acid Armor is going to be a big help. It's a reliable way of setting up badge boosts and the defence gained plus Vaporeon's natural bulk should make it really resilient.
@@Rork310 nice prediction

I like how the series is "How Fast can you Beat", and not just "Can You Beat". If Struggle didn't count as Normal type in Gen 1, then Magikarp could have beaten the game. That shows that any Pokémon that can learn more than just Normal type moves can eventually win. It is a matter of efficiency.
Weedle can in theory but in practice might need perfect attack and speed DV’S and a lot of Stat XP.
This Lance battle felt far too lucky, definitely needed more levels and time to be consistent.
Yes ! But I find that not saving between the Elite 4 members evens out the luck.
I think jrose agrees thats why flareon is below gastly. It would need to waste time leveling some more.
I guess tradebacking growth would reduce the grind a lot, obviously Jolten would be able to do that too.
Can't wait until the vaporeon thumbnail is just "this run made me so wet"
I love the genuine excitement in your voice in the Champion battle
Man that was exciting at the end. Keep up the good work!
I’m looking forward to the eventual tier list of all 151 pokemon
That Lance battle was so inconsistent though... realistically, you’d probably have needed to level up a few more times. It feels unfair to let Flareon get by on so much luck when you demand (at least some) consistency on other Pokémon
Lance has generally been allowed to be somewhat lucky in the past
*coughcoughAgathalotteryoneveryruncoughcough*
I agree, while Agatha requires one shots to be consistent really, Lance is not the case and getting so many crits, misses and everything else that happened in this battle... he could have used that luck to win the lottery instead
