Nice video and a historic document. Today, in 2017, nearly all the corals you show in this video are dead. A drama.

Great video. Thanks for sharing. I am thinking about planning a vacation to the Maldives next year and looking for a resort with a great house reef. So far this looks the best!

From what I hear and read, Vilamendhoo must be the resort island which has one of the best house reefs in the Maldives. Easily accessible from the beach, and interesting all around the island in terms of creatures you can find. And the best part of the house reef is at the farthest tip of the island, which I was never able to explore in fear of the very strong current. One thing that I really regret not having filmed is a huge yellow leopard spotted moray eel (I do not know its exact name), which was swimming over this house reef. (My camera got broken just before she appeared.)

Just returned from Vilamendhoo and there is very little live coral to see. Not sure if its people traffic or nature? Still lots of fish.

Just snorkeling around the house reef. There are also snorkeling excursions from Vilamendhoo resort for swimming with Whale Sharks and Manta Rays. I participated twice each, and did swim with them (its almost a guaranteed success. I have videos for those on youtube, too.)
