  • A DP transmitter is a pressure-measuring gauge or an electrical device that uses two elements to measure the differences of pressure in a sealed container such as a pipe.
How Does a Differential Pressure Transmitter Work
A DP transmitter works by providing a DP signal for the difference between the HP (High pressure ) and LP (Low pressure) side of the transmitter
There are 3 types of pressure measurement.
    a) Gauge Pressure
    b) Absolute Pressure
    c) Differential Pressure
Any difference of pressure across the cell causes the diaphragm to flex in the direction of least pressure. The sensing diaphragm is a precision-manufactured spring element, meaning that its displacement is a predictable function of applied force. The applied force in this case can only be a function of differential pressure acting against the surface area of the diaphragm in accordance with the standard force-pressure-area equation F = PA
A pressure transducer converts pressure to an electronic signal, while a pressure transmitter also amplifies, modifies, and sends that signal.
A pressure transmitter / transducer is attached to a pipe or vessel to measure the pressure of the fluid in the pipe or vessel with respect to atmospheric pressure.
A differential pressure transmitter / transducer is attached to a pipe on both sides of an orifice plate to measure the difference in pressure in the pipe between the two sides of the orifice plate. The rate of flow of fluid through the pipe can be calculated from the above pressure difference. Generally, the transmitter attached to the differential pressure transducer converts the pressure difference into the rate of flow of fluid
A differential pressure reacts to the difference in pressure between two locations.
A pressure transmitter (usually) measures the difference in pressure between the input port & current atmospheric pressure. (ie it is really a differential pressure sensor but with no access to the reference side)
An absolute pressure transducer is the same except the reference pressure is zero pressure

🔴Note : The Instrument process datasheet (IPDS) sometimes refers to Static pressure as "Operating Pressure" and to D.P as Differential Pressure.

sometimes people used to misunderstood that we can re-range an instrument upto the maximum working pressure range mentioned in the data sheet. Transmitter can be re-ranged till the sensor measuring range.

@@ramkumark9789 Very True .... A pretty good point 😊 We need to be aware of Instrument limitation !!
