- Waheed Murad (1938-1983) was a Pakistani film actor, producer, and scriptwriter. He is known for his charming expressions, attractive personality, tender voice, and unusual talent for acting. He acted in 124 films, of which 38 were black and white and 86 were color. He acted in 115 Urdu films, 8 Punjabi films, and 1 Pushto film. He is considered one of the most famous and influential actors in South Asia. In November 2010, 27 years after his death, Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari posthumously awarded him the Sitara-e-Imtiaz. Waheed Murad died on November 23, 1983, at the age of 45. A paan leaf with an unidentified substance in it was found in his mouth. It is not clear if the cause of death was a heart attack or suicide. Waheed was buried near his father's grave in the Gulberg Graveyard in Lahore. Urdupoint reporter Zain Babu talks to researcher Mirza Usman Baig on the death anniversary of Waheed Murad.

SUPER STAR WAHEED MURAD AS I KNEW HIM ! Telling from my interaction with Supreme Mega Star Waheed Murad and following him as a a diehard fan since I was a class 5th student , I have to say in all honesty and sincerity that Waheed was the most handsome , smart, stylish, energetic, mercurial , charismatic , chic, dapper ,trendy and classy personage . He was the most versatile, hugely accomplished and highly celebrated mega star beyond comparison , who had his own distinct and distinguished ( trademark Waheed Murad ) style of acting and song picturization. A versatile actor like him neither came before him , nor in his lifetime nor will one come to emulate him in future ! According to four top film directors ie Hassan Tariq, Iqbal Yousaf , Iqbal Akhtar and Jamshed Naqvi , " SUPER STAR WAHEED MURAD WAS ONE ACTOR IN THE ENTIRE INDO PAK WHO DIDN'T NEED ANY DIRECTOR TO GUIDE HIM IN ACTING OR SONG PICTURIZATION. ACTING CAME TO HIM AS NATURALLY AS LEAVES TO A TREE ! " Waheed a highly educated person and was blessed with the most sterling qualities of head and heart . He had a highly positive attitude towards others and treated everyone with a lot of respect , INCLUDING HIS MEANEST HATERS . My personal peon , SHER MUHAMMAD , NICKNAMED SHER MAMA , was the recipient of his huge munificence in the form of a big amount of cash for his daughter's marriage . In fact , Waheed had inherited his heart of gold and enviable gentlemanly traits from his great parents . He had an admirably cool and cheerful countenance , a friendly , respectful and welcoming demeanour , topped like an icing on the cake by his saintly patience and tolerance . All these qualities of Waheed had a wonderful calming effect on anyone who met him and had friendship with him. I was there when the four top directors talked about the incomparable class , calibre and standing of Waheed Murad as the greatest mega star and kindest man of all time . That was the reason Waheed Murad had an infectiously magnetic way with the people and his fans . Those who met him even once would gravitate towards him like butterflies and honey bees rushing towards flowers . Similarly , people would run to him hysterically , with tears and sobs and express their intense love with him . I personally saw this at Murree. People's love for Waheed would at times reach the highest crescendoes and touch the sky the way the fans of Elvis Presley , Michael Jackson , Ronaldo , Dilip Kumar or Shah Rukh Khan would do. In one instance , his sports car was bled red with kisses by throngs of adoring damsels and young college and school girls at Karachi. In another incident , a Pukhtoon lady from a highly wealthy family in KPK closely known to me, who was a diehard fan of Waheed Murad, consumed deadly poison after hearing the sad and shocking news of Waheed's tragic ,untimely death. Though she was saved with great difficulty , yet the matter was kept top secret as per Pushtoon traditions. Similarly ladies of some Nawab and Landlord families in KPK and Sindh are still intensely enamoured of Waheed Murad. Despite being a most adored top notch mega star from an extremely wealthy , influential and respected family , with a whole slew of servants, drivers , watchmen and gardners working at his bungalows at Karachi and Lahore , Waheed never took these things to his head like other newly- become -rich, vain and shallow people nor did he brag about his wealth or family background . The affluence of Waheed could be easily gauged from the fact that he had inherited from his parents property worth billions of rupees , including a big Bugalow at the most expensive and posh locatoon DHA 1 Karachi, another similarly huge bungalow at the heart of the fashionable , costly and famous mainTariq Road , two flats again at the highly expensive and modern area of Sidco Centre Sadar Karachi , a six canal most expensive bungalow at the highly pricy Guberg- 3 Lahore , besides an expensive flat at Kanal Road Lahore. He owned Elite Cinema Hyderabad and had half share in Naz Cinema MA Jinnah Road , Karachi . All these huge properties worth billions of dollars were owned by his father, who was a most prominent and wealthy film distributor of Indo Pak, who hailed from a highly respected and rich family of Sialkot ! Unlike many of his co actors , Waheed never had a craving to accumulate wealth. His only passion was acting and producing films to please his fans and satisfy his passion . Being a role model and epitome of positivity and love , Waheed never felt jealous of others' wealth or fame nor did he brook any malice even against his worst and meanest enemies , some of whom are still barking against Waheed like mad dogs , because barking is in their nature. Being a highly intelligent , sensitive and perceptive man , Waheed knew all the hypocrits of the film industry inside out , INCLUDING HIS CO- ACTORS, DIRECTORS AND STORY WRITERS , and in particular those who posed to be his best friends and flatteringly learnt and copied the nuances of acting and song picturization from Waheed , yet devilishly and disgracefully conspired against Waheed and subjected Waheed to brutal character assassination most shamelessly , in order to topple him from the number one slot and get the films that were being offered to him. Yet the magnificent Waheed maintained his glacial cool and graceful poise all the while , not losing his temper even at the nonstop treachery of his sworn enemies. However, he was deeply hurt by his brutal character assassination by those who posed to be his closest friends and acquaintances , falling victim to severe depression and related ailments that proved too fatal for him and ultimately passed away owing to his heavenly abode with a fatal cardiac arrest. May Allah Almighty shower His choicest blessings upon Super Star Waheed Murad in heaven. May Allah Almighty 's wrath befall all those who were involved in conspiracies against Waheed and hastened his untimely death ! Aameen.
