Amazing review! I have to say: I haven't seen a review of a film like this one in a long time. I appreciate your depth and info not just about gear: I am a gear head! ;) But also the insight about the message... Well done man! excellent! yes, I subbed! ;) Looking forward the next one. I haven't seen the film yet... love Garland's work. I am sure I will like it. Now I gonna be looking at the footage/image knowing it was shot on the DJI 4D!!! I was going to buy it by the way! 😂 🤔 may be I should. Ok cheers!

Thank you so much for the kind words. Gear is dangerous... But on that note, I think this is your sign to go out and get the 4D. I would love one, myself.

I've seen Civil War and watched countless reviews, but this is by far the most thoughtful one.

That's greatly appreciated! Trying to bring something a little different to this very saturated space. Thank you!

Enjoyed all the insight about cameras, would always love to hear about the tech behind films when applicable.

Thanks for your thoughtful review. I saw it a week ago and think it's amazing as a piece of entertainment--acting, cinematography, storytelling, sound, etc. What's troubling me is the content, the message (if there is a coherent one), the politics. The movie struck me as (among other things) a critique of modern society in general, and yet the movie is a very polished piece of that very society, including the press junkets, the cast interviews, etc, and in that sense it seems very hypocritical to me. I also saw Ex Machina and I have the same complaint about that film: it's clear that he's trying to get at serious issues, and yet it's cloaked in a very smooth, sexy, shiny Hollywood object. I think I'd have more respect for future work if he dials up the emphasis on the ideas and dials down the budget, the big-name cast, the special effects, etc.

Yeah, it's tricky. It's a pretty difficult ask for a director. That's asking an artist to turn down opportunities to be given a larger platform to share their work. Of course, it is always ironic when someone is critiquing the very system that is supporting them, but I'm not entirely sure what someone like Garland should do. Opportunities to create large pieces of art are not always granted, and folks generally want to seize the chances as they come.
