    I am amazed at Zagitova's management of her growth spurt and her perseverance through the less than preferable music choice and choreography. Right when people were doubting her... She went there and delivered. That double axel from a Charlotte Spiral was impressive and not something most skaters can do. I hope the best for her. Both Medvedeva and Zagitova's postures are not the best in the business but I really don't think we've seen the best of these ladies yet. They have nerves of steel.
    Marin... is the phenom waiting to happen but I really hope it happens.

    Both of Alexa and Chris's programs were really enjoyable and showed noticeable growth in several different facets of skating. Even with many mistakes, it felt more promising than if they had gone out there and done the same thing as last year and stayed on their feet. It's great to see their overall skating getting closer to its full potential.

    Is it so hard to acknowledge Zagitova's success? puberty(growth spurt, hello 16 years), post-Olympic(god damn hard) season, unstoppable pressure(not the RIGHT winner in Russia), a completely new style in the programs(still bad music, but wonderful NEW choreography ), the first performance at the competitions(not a peak form. too early to judge strictly cos everything will improve/ according to what you said just recently)!!! and what I hear? - Meh. after jumping she staggers a bit. not impressive. WTF ?!?!?!?! I am not blinded..
    Alina's Carmen performance is simply gorgeous. Alina's SP (except music cuts) is great done. Everything is so well done and presented that reality just kicked in the face . Alina and Eteri team did a very good job. Professionally and efficiently. at least for now. if something is good then say so

    The Knierims have two great programs to work with. They're more intricate and different than what they've done before. While they understandably didn't look fully ready, their overall skating has really been elevated. I didn't expect them to look so different this fast. It's exciting because they have explosive and great elements, so if they can skate these programs well, they should score huge. When Piper and Paul's free dance music started, I was like, oh this is going to be very Canadian. But I ended up really liking it and found the program innovative. It's nice to hear different music in skating.

  • @herm712
    @herm712 Před 6 lety +36

    Alina is a talented skater but the scores are out of control. She is not 10 points better in PCS than her closest competitor in the field. I understand the OGM bonus but there's got to be some kind of restraint from the judges. Definitely deserved the win but not by 29+ points.

    I like dresses that look like they've been through a shredder unless they are in a million pieces and no longer look like an actual skirt. They could tone down Alexa's pants a notch in the SP, but the LP dress is pretty. And I know you have a thing for their hot coach, but none of Deanna and Nate's elements should get +4. They lack in transitions and their elements are small. Nate nearly ran into Deanna on the throw in the short program. When Deanna said "not really" in response to Nate telling her there were a lot of good things in the program, I nearly died.

      @@colormyworld249 I'm saying the movements she is told to do are not good. They are athletic, they are difficult, but they are not artistic. If you watched a 3rd party skate Alina's, Anna's, and Evgenia's old choreography, no one would be able to tell whose it was because these programs are not designed for individuals, they are written with a calculator to achieve the highest technical marks while the girls drink water and weigh themselves in grams in the corner. I also wouldn't say Anna's the most musical skater while Eunsoo and Caroline are still breathing.

      There have been glimpses of their nice lines in their previous programs, like after their twist or when they come out of lifts, but it was underutilized by their choreographers. While pair programs should be more focused on the girl as she is the star flying through the air, I'm glad they're highlighting Chris's good stretch this year.

    The Knierims are showing vast improvement. I noticed changes on every single element in their programs, and I’m glad you guys pointed some of them out instead of harping on the falls which in the long run don’t matter. They should feel proud of themselves for how much they’ve already grown artistically and element-wise. They obviously need more time to get the programs in order, but I really like what Aljona has done with them so far. And I figured, Dave, you wouldn’t like their LP. Anything where a pair team shows romantic chemistry you don’t like lol. But that is quintessential pair skating and they look beautiful.

      The song (originally by Don McLean, but given a special-order cover here in order to include tempo changes, etc. necessary for an ice dance program) is a tribute to the artist Vincent Van Gogh, who struggled with mental illness for much of his life and ultimately committed suicide, largely unknown (it would only be decades after his death that his work became widely appreciated). Piper's costume, both in its colours and particular details, is meant to represent Van Gogh's most famous painting, "The Starry Night". So the program is about Van Gogh's relationship to his art.

    I'm surprised and impressed by all the improvements Aljona has made with Alexa & Chris already. All these changes need testing and an adjustment period, but it's so promising to see what they've done in 8 weeks. They've always been a talented pair and gifted athletically, and now they're making big strides in presentation and quality. Their programs are a real step forward. In the past Benoit hasn't been my favorite, but he has given the Knierims a lot of his attention and it has resulted in quality, intriguing work. Not everyone will love that modern SP, but it's already getting them attention. They look beautiful in that LP, way more polished, sophisticated, and "two-as-one". The program has great flow and speed, there's no slowing down in it. I would like one less squatting move...the squatting spread eagle doesn't seem good for their throw triple flip. But good for them for trying so many new things. The LP costumes are great, and while I'd prefer Alexa's SP pants to be more black, those outfits are symbolic of them truly looking like a different team this year.

    Everyone who i talk with, regardless of their age or sex were blown away by Alina's Carmen performance. it punches you in the gut and you want to go back and watch it again and again. Can you imagine that Carmen can be exciting?! But it is, and i can understand why judges that got to see that performance for the first time were blown away and reflected that in protocols. The combination of timeless music, real ballet choreography, costume and Alina's mind blowing beauty and athleticism create one of a kind program that will be remembered for years to come. Too bad that you are so biased towards Orser that you either cannot appreciate it or cannot say what you really feel. also you need to stop spreading rumors about Eteri's methods, it won't end well.

Some skater produce lower quality performances here, but they are looked at more favorably. They praise their strength etc. Comments can always go two ways base on your preference. Even somebody has the jumps, they can say it won’t stick around. If someone has poor technique, they can say oh but she will improve. Fundamentally, they just don’t really agree other people’s ideology/way of doing things. But I guess it’s just hard for people from a different culture. Same with the old “Korean face” comment. If people don’t do it the way you prefer, you don’t look at them favorably.

    Alexa and Chris look like an upper echelon pair now, but one that’s still trying to find its way after a ton of changes. I thInk that’s why some people started mentioning a world medal, but I don’t think anyone would put expectations on them to contend for it right away. They are still in a learning and tweaking phase. In addition to any major changes, Aljona is clearly working with them on the little things and I see so much improvement. I don’t know who you talked to, but the reception for the SP I’ve seen has been overwhelmingly positive. It’s unique, athletic, and intricate, and will be their best SP. I think the LP is a great vehicle for them too; it’s the best they’ve looked. I’m excited to see how they develop with more practice. Nebelhorn probably crept up on the calendar faster than they would’ve liked- and they could have watered down and won easily- but it looked like they used the event to test out many changes. They look promising.
    As for Marin, it’s fair to mention that not everyone adjusts easily or quickly to body changes. We see growing pains for many teenage skaters.

    Marin Honda is 17! Older than Zagitova and she has never broken through as a top tier senior contender. Her jumps are getting downgraded and she looks heavier now. Her coach is not Eteri. Other Japanese girls like Rika Kihira are better. Medvedeva, should have retired after the Olympics, her reputation would have been intact. Instead now, Medvedeva will end up retiring on a low note. Zagitova’s programmes are way more complex than anyone else’s and she looks so fit. Her music is edgy. And no miming! Her free programmes get faster and build up towards the end. With the Carmen she didn’t even have to accelerate it with jumps she did it with a really good choreographic step sequence and spin, she looked sharper at the end than the beginning.

      How about them saying that Eteri made Alina to drink only water instead of eating to get her into shape she was at Nebelhorn? That is done with the goal to destroy Eteri's reputation. They probably work for Orser's camp. Them using words of absent co-host to compliment Alina, kind of proves it. Feels like they are not allowed to say anything good about Alina or Eteri.

Just because they criticize Alina and Eteri’s methods doesn’t mean they are working for Orser. You are absolutely delusional!! Both Dave and Jonathan have said positive things about Eteri girls in the past and now. You’re completely twisting and distorting what they say.

DAVE, THEY DO NOT HAVE A BIG PICTURE PLAN. It's the skaters who try so hard with their effort and talent and perform well. It really annoys me and the korean skating fans.

    Calling Zagitova's Carmen program "garbage" - just shows not only your lack of taste, but lack of elementary cultural education. At least in knowing classic balletic performances. There are lots of various rather different portraying of Carmen character and her interpretations, you know? Only because Zagitova's interpretation is not your familiar expected Carmen movie image - isn't the reason to disparage her program.
    Here we go - czcams.com/video/CoxDZqYfoxE/video.html fragment of Carmen Suite by Alberto Alonso performed by Plisetskaya ;) Zagitova's program is inspired by this performance. This Carmen is not at all languid and experienced - but jubilant and mischievous. So is Alina.

    I am sick of hearing that "Russians are against Medvedeva because she moved to Canada and became a world citizen". Completely false! It's totally fine to change coaches, to try something new. What Russian fans and Eteri herself criticize is the very way she left her previous coaching team - without saying normal goodbyes, ignoring calls and texts, lying in the press. Please stop presenting things as if they are fact when there is no evidence other than Medvedeva's words or your own fantasies.

      But Zhenya wasn't the first time - there have been other skaters who had left Eteri the same way in the past. Polina Shelepen, Yulia Lipnitzkaya, Sergei Voronov, etc. She made sure to criticize each of them very publicly in her interviews later. (that was low as a coach). I started to wonder what actually had happened between Eteri and these skaters if they would behave the same pattern (leaving her without any words and never want to talk to her again). We never know whether Eteri did or said things to them that made them really upset when they were still her students. And of course, she would never reveal something inconvenient for herself publicly.

    • @yingyingseah3294
      @yingyingseah3294 Před 6 lety +8

      Is there even a diplomatic way to leave eteri??? Or will she just burn you the moment you choose to leave? Like first Yulia and then evgenia...if you aren’t a “star” skater of hers and if you leave, she doesn’t give a fuck. If everyone loves you but you leave, you’re in her burn book.
      So I have no idea if she left in such a way. And even if she did, maybe after years of difficulty..and clearly how difficult of a decision it is, you will need to just not reply. I mean people ghost in breakups right? She gave a really good response in the end with the whole “I learnt a lot and now I just need to do something different”.
      So her choices were probably fine, understandable and should be respected way more than Russia seems to.

      Well yeah, Eteri is tough, strict and demanding, and her style doesn't suit everybody. I am not surprised that some people didn't survive her training. They made their choice, and neither of them was particularly successful after leaving Eteri. Say, Tsurskaya explained her reasons - she wanted more relaxed atmosphere in the team...well, we saw the results too (I really hope things will get better for her).
      But Medvedeva was different. She was Eteri's second daughter, special and privileged. It was absolutely obvious to everyone that Eteri-human wanted Zhenya to win the Olympics (Eteri-professional wanted the strongest lady to win). Zhenya did all this because she (untouchable queen) sincerely thinks that Eteri should have stopped Alina from even taking part in the Olympics. She called Eteri a "traitor" because of that.

Ok 1 moved to Canada , changed coaches and her skating level is changing so is not doing that good for now... But that doesn't mean that you can't accept that the other 1 is doing better now... I just wish and know that these girls are making history in their own way, they are strong and challenge the younger ones coming and I really wish both the best 🙌 I hope 1 day they be friends again so fans stop fighting... I know when you have your favorite you can blind a little but we have to give credit for the other skaters as well...

      I watched the one with great improvement from the last two years, the one wherein they both demonstrated commitment to the choreography, amplitude in the performance, the one wherein there was terrific music and nice speed throughout, and the one during which the lifts were pretty spectacular. There were a couple of oops in the long....and their elements may not be the hardest. Everyone makes excuses for favorites because it's early in the season. They're all my favorites, and I want all of them to skate their best. I saw programs that were further along and better performed than the other pairs at Nebelhorn. Yep, that Denney and Frazier. Might try a second look.
