    Just ordered a few of these. I live over 5300 ft high in North Central Az. I didn't think this would grow in my area. But I've been told differently and plan to give it a try. Thanks for the tips.

    I have both hardy jasmine and confederate jasmine, and both survived Long Island winter in the shade. In the summer, it's full sun on deck. When I received them they were cuttings that were rooted they grew 6 to 7ft by fall the confederate bloomed but the hardy jasmine didn't because it needs a cold cycle to trigger blooms so this year I can't wait I'm thinking of putting my confederate near my pin oak because it can climb trees like poison ivy with Arial roots that stick the bark. I've seen this in Louisiana they go up about 30 feet, and they can thrive in shade. Winter Jasmine, I heard needs full sun, so I'll plant that one near my front door that faces south.

    Here in the mid Atlantic we have enough humidity in summer, but winters can be brutal if your plant is potted. Although my star jasmine has been an ina thin plastic pot for 2 winters and co es back each year. Just repotted today for growth. It’s that 3rd year leap I hope.

    I grew it in Santa Cruz County, CA, and would really like to plant it where I live now: 8b, Port Angeles, WA. But I can't find it here, so even though it supposedly grows here, does that mean it probably won't?
    You do a great job. Thank you.

    We moved into a house with a star jasmine plant. I was so excited! The plant itself is thriving and I have to constantly cut back the vines because it is constantly growing. The only drawback is that it hasn’t bloomed at all. I have never seen a flower or even flower buds on it the who year and a half we’ve been here. Unfortunately, it is planted in a place where it doesn’t get much sun throughout the year.
    I’ve been thinking about digging up and placing it in a pot where it’ll get more sun.
    Again, please help!!

    • @Gardendesignmag
      @Gardendesignmag  Před 10 měsíci +1

      Hi Adriana, Star jasmine doesn't require much fertilizer, if any, if your soil is amended. Add compost when planting or apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in spring. Too much fertilizer can result in more foliage, less flowers. Good luck!

    Any tips in the winter time? It may freeze here in Austin.

    • @Gardendesignmag
      @Gardendesignmag  Před 11 měsíci +1

      Hi - Some of the leaves may turn brown and fall off, but the plant should rebound in spring. Star Jasmine is generally hardy to Zone 8, with some to Zone 7. (Looks like Austin is 8B.) If you can, may want to protect it a bit during really cold spells with frost cloth. Also, check with a local independent garden center for more local recommendations.

    Hi! I’ve a star jasmine that’s gone really leggy, it’s growing along a fence and obstructing a narrow passageway. I would like to hard prune it back to the fence but this will mean losing all the thin layer of top foliage! If I hard prune will new foliage appear? What’s your advice? Thank you!

    I Planted 9 star jasmine alongside my gate to give my front porch some privacy they are about two feet apart from one another. I noticed one with starting to show sad looking brown leaves at the battom. I live in LA, and the area they are in is full sun. I initially started watering twice a day and backed off after 1 week to every other day. This was 3 weeks ago. Any tips?

    • @Gardendesignmag
      @Gardendesignmag  Před 15 dny +1

      They could just be settling in if still new. Try watering every day, especially in this heat. As Janey mentions, they use a bit more water than she expected to do really well. Yellow and wilting would be more of a sign of overwatering. It may also be sun scald if they were just recently put into full sun from a more protected area.

    • @Gardendesignmag

      It will root deeply, so I'm not sure it would be a good choice. However, a local expert might be able to provide better recommendations for your growing conditions.
