    Welcome to my garden! I am planting and training a star jasmine plant up the wall next to my garage to one day create an espalier around our address sign. I just love that romantic look! 🥰🍃 Enjoy!

    Star Jasmine is my favorite, I recently had planted 34 of them 5 gallon size up against my front yard chainlink fence, they have very strong smell to them I mainly wanted them to be a privacy wall I kept debating wether to plant boston ivy instead but my understanding they go dormant in the fall &,winter months then having to deal with raking up dead leaves which I didnt want to make extra work for myself it is why choosen the Star Jasmine instead they are evergreen & basically only the flowers go dormant in winter time least thats what I been told.

      I think you made a great choice! Here in my garden mine are evergreen and I barely get any leaf drop even in the winter! I bet once yours grow in your privacy fence is going to be a showstopper!

    Cool thanks. Youve given me the basics on how to start mine. I have a a steel post from a pergola. Bit hard to drill hooks into the steel post and I also dont want to incase the vines dont work in the shady area, then I am left with holes. I might have to get some kind of strong stick on eye hooks

    I love to have scents throughout my garden so I have star jasmine growing at my entrance, potato vine growing up a trellis in my backyard, and scented geraniums throughout my yards. I have a lemon scented geranium that is so fragrant. I love to run my hand over it and smell the lovely lemon scent. I always know when my dog Gracie has been sniffing around my plant because she smells of lemon.

  • @cjb8993
    @cjb8993 Před 2 lety

    Question; how aggressive is the star jasmine? I have a large concrete (rear) support wall that I want to do a wire trellis on to cover the ugly grey color of the concrete. I'm afraid that Jasmine might be too aggressive? I've had wisteria and it's horribly aggressive, it literally takes over.
    Also, I live in Arkansas so our summer sun is blazing, not sure if star jasmine can handle full sun all day/every day? The space is irrigated though which helps.
    My considerations are:
    -Jasmine
    -Vinca vine
    -Full Sun Clematis of some variant
    -Honeysuckle
    -Campis Indian Summer Trumpet Vine
    Pretty open here but want something beautiful but easy to manage.

    • @DigPlantWaterRepeat
      @DigPlantWaterRepeat  Před 2 lety

      Hi! Thanks for watching! In my experience here in zone 9b, the jasmine is less aggressive than honeysuckle, vinca and WAY less aggressive than wisteria! I don’t have any experience with a full sun clematis or trumpet vine! I have my jasmine in full sun and parts of it are in hot afternoon sun as well and it does fine! Hope that helps! Good luck! 💗

    I loved this video. I have many star jasmine but have just planted some next to a fence. Mine have more than 2 vines coming out of the bottom would I train these onto the wire too and just build up so it's more dense or do you just leave one vine per wire and prune the rest from the ground. Thank u so much for your time

    hi, quick question, if you put a new young plant in the ground with eg 2 long parts, do you need to immediately cut it to have more longer parts to start growing? or can you simply let it (the 2 parts) grow and does it make a more broader package itself? hope my question is clear....

    I love confederate jasmine but I believe that placement to be more trouble then needed. For like 1-2 years it will be great looking but its going get annoying once it needs to be cut constantly. My personal experience is from owning like 6 of them placed on a fence next to my driveway. They constantly need to be trimmed. That same fence runs to my front door and it eats my house. the plant constantly attacks you coming and going out the door. I however do love the plants and want them but I cant stand the constant trimming

      Vines can damage the exterior. Our neighbors had it on the back of their house and it literally made it's way inside through the walls and got inside the house. I love the look but not sure if it's worth possibly doing some serious damage to the paint or the exterior.
