  • (The Prayer at Valley Forge @Friberg Fine Art, Inc. Used by Permission) “In a day when some people are using religious faith to divide the human family, this little gathering is a bold declaration that commitment to deity can and should be a powerful, uniting force in this world,” said Elder Jeffrey R. Holland of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints during a national meeting of Scout leaders. The Boy Scouts of America (BSA) is holding its annual gathering in San Diego, California, where Elder Holland was the keynote speaker during a breakfast meeting Thursday, May 26, 2016. www.mormonnewsr...

Boy Scouts gave me so much! It helped me see the wonder and beauty in God's many creations, including the God-given capacity for learning and growth in myself and those in my troop.

I love the Mitch Fennemore story! (Does anyone know where we can find the Mitch-mobile video on CZcams?)
Still, I dream of the day when the Church dumps scouting. We (the Church) could do such a better job by creating our own program. And in fact, with that new program we could then create at the same time a comparable program for the girls. In my view, in our church our young mens' right of passage is a mission, not knot-tying or an eagle scout project. Expanded Duty to God, not merit badge busy-work. Just an opinion here.
