  • We rounded up eleven bikes that are among the most important of 2018, boarded a Brittany Ferry and took them to the stunning mountain roads and trails of Peille in the South of France.
    Massive thanks for Brittany Ferries and the Commune of Peille for helping make this series happen!

    Would like to see a full review of the new Scott Spark RC line. Been riding it for a year, and absolutely loving the handling and performance it gives. Would be really interesting to see the Spark being compared to the new Epic.

    I agree the paint scheme is often overlooked. Canyon, Cube, and Giant's paintjob are always too cliche/boring. Specialized even give entry level bikes with nice metallic paint, too bad they'll never compete on price

    The epics are Epic! I've owned 2, after spending 2 years on a Brain, I've NEVER rode anything I like more for XC. Cons include a rear shock that's Specialized only, wears out quick, and can only be rebuilt by Specialized. I went HT.

      Brian Chaze I recommend Rock Lobster in Santa Cruz. Paul Sadoff is the man! Hes a one man frame building operation. Since he is small and keeps his costs down, he can offer competitive deals with major manufacturers. He builds steel and aluminum bikes. NOTHING feels as good as a frame specifically built for you

    I have the same bike, I love and hate the bike. I love the colour scheme it looks gorgeous.
    Rear shock for me just works once you get the right t set up.
    Front shock I would change, not being able to change the compression on the move is not a great idea.
    But the worst thing overall is when you need to service the Brian, Specialized only authorise a couple of service centres in the UK , I am all for supporting my local bike shop who would normally service my suspension, but now this is not possible because Specialized will no provide spare parts for the service.
    If I had known this would I have purchased the bike, Close call but yes.

      @bertbaker6226 Před 6 lety +3

      Soban Bhatti I've got this exact bike and the wheels are fantastic. I had the non boost models on my Stumpy HT. They are incredibly strong and great to ride(stiff and super responsive). In 2 years of heavy riding/racing I've had 1 spoke go, even still there was no significant buckle so got round the rest of the ride fine.

    Good Review, I have this same bike, the paint comes at a weight cost believe it or not, maybe as high as a 200 gram difference, the murdered out wheels/forks must have came from one of the ugly murdered out black bikes,, its a trail bike for me, works great in Michigan with all our rolling hills, quick steep climbs, brains come in handy indeed. Faster then my older Epic, smoother, easy to make corrections when needed, bike is a pleasure to ride, surprises me every ride, with the speed/handling. Better bike then I need, but if it saves me from one high speed get off, its paid for itself..

    Perhaps get someone to review the bike that actually rides/races xc. It’s an xc race bike so unlikely to be purchased by a trail/enduro rider. The fast trak tyres are meant to be fast rolling, they’re a great tyre; also you don’t buy a near 5k bike based on the tyres!!

    • @TomMarvin1
      @TomMarvin1 Před 6 lety +1

      Terry Edleston while I wouldn't race a full xc season I'm pretty well versed in xc/marathon racing. My next one is the Strathpuffer in a couple of weeks...
      The epic would be suitable for a trail rider who is looking for a more xc orientated trail bike or the xc rider looking for something more capable.
      Given the number of comments on the value of the bike, I think my comment on the tyres (in which I did mention their fast rolling nature) is valid.

    • @terryedleston4951
      @terryedleston4951 Před 6 lety

      Thomas Marvin I don’t think the review is bad but feel it leans to comparing the bike for trail use when it’s an out and out xc/marathon race bike. I think a review by someone that does race all the time on this type of bike would give a review more focused for its intended use.
      I’ve raced the fast trak tyre over thousands and thousands of miles on many different types of terrain and they haven’t skipped a beat. Very versatile in my opinion. Also a first and a second at the xco Olympics on very different courses highlights its versatility so disagree with the validity of your point.
      Good luck at the strathpuffer.

    • @TomMarvin1
      @TomMarvin1 Před 6 lety

      Terry Edleston I see where you're coming from though I'd argue that the epic had morphed from out and out xc (though obviously this is its roots) into a more versatile bike, and it's fair to test it as thus.
      In terms of the testing we had four different people riding the bike through testing - including someone who races xc at a national level (not I!) - tyres were something raised by everyone who rode it.
      There's nothing wrong with them though we feel that most racers will want to have a range of other tyres available, and we don't think the fast track tyres fitted would have been any of ours first choice of rubber. Others may feel otherwise :)

    • @terryedleston4951
      @terryedleston4951 Před 6 lety

      Thomas Marvin Yes the bike does feel more capable than the previous model but still feels very responsive. It’s quite a subtle difference though. Be good to hear all four different opinions of the bike.
      Maybe another video reviewing different xc tyres would be good then?
      Cheers.

    This bike is designed to break over time. They made a major change in the rear triangle to reduce cost and weight of the bike. Now the triangle flexes where the wheel axle meet. The bikes will break at this point, as you probably have already heard. I have owned 4 specialized bikes so far. Now I am looking for a new brand due to this change.
