- Check out my 2020 Kona Honzo ST custom build with a Works Components 1.5° angled headset with a reduced offset, 140mm fork.
To summarize:
1) I over-forked to 140mm (raised the front of the bike slightly, dropped me to ~ 67° head tube angle)
2) I converted the fork to reduced offset (more balanced steering feel, slightly raises the front of the bike)
3) I installed the Works Components angled headset (lowers the front of the bike, slackened the head tube angle to ~ 65.5°)
Parktool Headset press I used: amzn.to/37bXCka

Excellent analysis
Hey Doc, very good video, I really enjoyed watching it. Interesting inputs regarding the reduced offset forks, might be the next project :) One note regarding the reach: with the angleset, the reach is reduced quite a bit due to the steerer tube being both more slanted and closer to the rear when it exits the head tube. How much of your reach reduction would you ascribe to that effect?
With the angled headset in the slacker position, the front wheel extends further forward which actually lowers the front of the bike very slightly. I would actually see this as lengthening the reach slightly, although the effect was negligible. Going with a longer fork and reduced offset fork would both raise the front of the bike and slightly reduce the reach. With each of the above, I noticed very little net effect on reach, but I completely see your point.
Stay tuned for me trying the angled headset on the new Honzo ESD... yes you heard me correctly.
@@uber_franz1126 I didn’t say which direction I installed it 😎
@@uber_franz1126 I think you're going to like that setup for sure. what length and offset fork?
@@uber_franz1126 That's going to be solid 👍🏻👍🏻.
I just got a fox 36 for my 2019 Hanzo DL. 120mm to 160 is quite the jump. Throwing in some tokens and maybe an angled headset to steepening the bike back out a bit trying to balance out the added slackness from the larger fork
@@screaminseaman6121 that's just dumb bro.
Does installing angleset kill the life-time Kona frame warranty? I wonder if lets say -2 degree offset puts any added pressure on headtube.
Do these slacker bikes lose traction turning front wheel on fast loose turns compared to xc bikes?
Cool video! Please tell me why you slid the wheel back, to balance the front? I'm on a Pipedream Moxie and I like the longer CS. Thanks
Thanks! And nice observation. I personally like slightly longer chainstays for the added stability. It does seem to pair well with the reduced offset, and is still plenty snappy and playful. A super long front center and super short rear-end just doesn't feel as right to me. Others may disagree and I'm sure it would be fine with the shorter chainstays.
I guess it is pretty off topic but do anyone know a good site to watch new movies online?
@Grant Emerson Try flixzone. Just google for it :)
@Zev Draven yup, been watching on FlixZone for since march myself :D
@Zev Draven Thank you, signed up and it seems like they got a lot of movies there :D I really appreciate it!
hmmm how come the there still that shark fin on 2020 , i see the website it doesnt have
current website offerings = 2021 models. Even those have the shark fin though, so not sure...
What's your opinion between this honzo tuned and honzo esd ?
ESD>2020 ST for me personally. It’s a bit more versatile for what I need. But they’re both a blast. A lot just depends on what your goals are. Hardtail hammer sessions with some trail miles sprinkled in = ESD. Lots of trail miles with some sends mixed in = Honzo ST.
It's a shame seeing all those gears on there. Great bike though. I have a 2021 on reserve from the next shipment coming in this spring at the local Kona dealer but running single speed. Also got a -1 headset ordered for it and running a 150mm fork. Wish it was reduced offset but the one I have is 51mm and can't afford a new fork at the moment after getting the other parts I actually NEED for the build.
Working on building mostly the same bike here! Will be a single speed, running a 2021 Pike Ultimate in 42mm offset. I can't find the headtube dimensions anywhere. Any tips?
@@cabellspicer6483 ZS44 top and ZS56 bottom. I ordered the -1 Wolf Tooth GeoShift for mine. But you also need to know the HT length which varies depending on frame size.
@@chadashton7029 Thanks dude! Kona has the HT length posted up, just not the specifications on the HT sizes. Appreciate the input.
@@cabellspicer6483 no problem.
Kinda reminds me of the norco torrent
Still have ?
No but I wish I did 😂
My 2016 honzo hates my guts
