Surfing JAWS & MAVERICKS within 24 hours

- One of the biggest swells to hit California first passed by Jaws on Maui.
We first paddled surf clean Jaws before hopping on a flight to Mavericks in California to immediately surf the biggest and most unruly Mavericks I've seen. We came home in one piece!

My jaw is on the floor. Kai is the future of surfing, finding kickers and quarters on big waves to throw down tricks in surf that most couldn't even drop in on. Insane, wishing you excellent health for 2024.
His paddle in at Jaws is amazing.
No one else has even come close to surfing big waves as mental as Kai. The dream has finally been realized. Surfing giant surf as if it were ripable head high trestles!
INSANE session at Mavs!!! Hit by the lip at 15:19 AND HE POWERS THROUGH! Crazy awesome surfing and breathtaking footage. WOW. 🌊💙🌊💥
I was on the beach/bottom of the cliff at Mavs that day, couldn't see the surfers too well, but then I saw one exit the wave by jumping like 10ft high and doing a crazy 540 spin flip move, and I said out loud "That has to be Kai Lenny" and one of the guys flying the drones next to me said "It was" lmao so sick!
In big waves, Kai Lenny is surfing and almost everyone else is surviving. At Nazare, he stalls and gets barreled and makes it while everyone else is just going as fast as they can, hoping they don't get smashed.
Grew up around there in Pacifica. I use sit on the jetti and just watch the sudden wave changes and how Mav's broke. Wasn't as popular back then as it is now and it still continues to impress. Nothing like it.
@@DJRushX1 I used to surf the garbage wave at Linda Mar all the time when I lived in the Bay Area. How far is Mavs from there?
@@S0ulinth3machin3 Mavericks is about 7 or 8 miles south of there. It can be head-high to slightly overhead at Half Moon Bay Jetty (fun little wedge wave, a little on the soft side) but 1 mile and a half or 2 miles (as crow flies) out to the peak at Mavericks it's life and death conditions. Half a mile north at Ross' Cove it's half the size or less?
15:18 how did Ridge stay up? Mavericks: imma gonna wipe you out. Ridge: No.
So Heavy! This young man has extended the realm of big wave surfing, tow in or not! Radical.
Boggles the mind the things you do Kai. And, you really really need to take your film crew out to dinner because they continue to impress (they absolutely killed it on the pipeline video).
It's amazing how incredibly talented you are. There couldn't be a better ambassador for the sport and art of surfing, keep killin it man 🤙

In these unprecedented times when most people allow the media to divide and conquer a video like this shows you just need to focus on whatever you have passion about and just go for it. Anything is possible if you block out the madness. This is what it means to find what you love to do in life and make a career out of it. You don't really ever need an alarm clock. Just work each day to get better at it ultimately seeking to be the best version you can be at it. Thanks again. This footage shows the vastness of our planet. That ocean is pure energy. I avoid negativity as much as possible and seem to still be surrounded by it. After watching this I can tune out the negative and focus on the positive. Keep doing what you do guys.

What a jokester. "You're first Ridge". The comment after seeing that first wave says a lot. "See that wave, there wasn't much you could do on it". Others are looking for a wave to ride, Kai is looking for a wave to do stuff on! I'm sure he's studying these videos, and looking at what his options are to improve and do even more!

been surfing 40years+ got to say best damn surfing i've seen in a long time. back when i did airs every body in the lineup would heckle me. i used to air mid face to lip. i saw you did one at mav's keep pushing the limits some day we will see back flip in barrel.

Mark Foo did this in 1994 but sadly drowned at Mavs. I still remember that. Same year that Jay Moriarity 16 yrd old was on the cover of Surfer Mag dropping in on a 35' bomb at Mavs then years later drowned while free diving in the Maldives. Those huge cyclones dropping from Alaska hit the islands first then Cali. So cool.

Had the pleasure of surfing with Kai in Mexico, and it was awesome to see his stoke level is the same whether it’s 30ft Jaws or 3ft Mexico. And I thought it was wild watching him surf switch in chest high surf. And now im trying to wrap my head around the fact I’m pretty sure I just witnessed him surfing switch stance at jaws 🤯🤯🤯 the ocean is truly his playground
