The 10 States EVERYONE is LEAVING

  • Why is everyone leaving these states?
Every 5 years, Americans move to another home. It’s not always a dramatic move - say going from California to Colorado. Often, it’s close by - across town or to another part of the state.
Every 5 years might sound like a lot, but that’s actually lower than it used to be. As a population, we’re getting older, and older people can’t move as easy as younger people can. Nowadays, mom AND dad both have jobs, which makes mobility a tougher pill to swallow. And, data shows that we don’t job hop as often as we used to.
Which states are seeing the biggest population decline over time? Actually, there are exactly ten of them. The rest of the states have seen either slight increases or BIG gains in people. We’ll talk about where people are moving, and why everyone’s leaving and all of the other fun stuff in this video.
So, grab your packing tape and don’t forget the goldfish. We’re going to explore America’s fastest shrinking states.
Kansas, New York, West Virginia, Rhode Island, Hawaii, Illinois, Connecticut, Louisiana, Alaska, Wyoming.
The best video on this topic!

Try leaving the country. My family and I are still USA citizens - however - we chose to move to Baja Sur, MX, by the Sea of Cortez Roads aren’t great, but the beaches, water and fishing are pristine. Taxes? We have a beautiful home (casa) paid for and taxes - well try less that $100 USD. Water bill - with large pool - $50 USD a month - electricity (we use solar) but try $40 USD every 2 months People? Friendly The place is safe unless you like doing drugs; this is not the mainland. Easy travel? San Jose Cabo San Lucas airport is an international hub city. Direct flights to Atlanta, LA, San Jose CA, San Diego, Houston, Dallas, Nashville - the list go on. We have been here 13 GREAT years. So - think outside the box - live far less expensive with a higher quality of life, put a little adventure in your life - try Baja Sur, MX.

We're almost always # 48 on best run states lists, right behind CA at 49. There is however one thing partisan that remains pretty consistent. Democratic states do a better job of both policing and preventing public corruption. We're talking degrees here though not good and bad. On top of that it's been republican aligned groups taking cases to court to weaken the countries public corruption laws. Again though it's not like Democrats put up much of a fight to stop it or more likely, agreed not to fight the efforts in private.

To make it all worse these people then move here and want to then turn our state into what they fled from by creating higher taxes to have what they had there and electing the same types of politicians with the same agendas the same mentality that created the mess they left. They had on winter gear and here I was still wearing a long sleeve T-shirt, lol. They asked me how much I paid in property taxes which was like 3x less than they were paying. By the time they got back to NJ, they decided to move here, sold their house and had a house built in a new subdivision at the time near me for less than $200k and bigger than they had in NJ. They were down here within the year and never looked back. Up until then, I had no family in the state. 😊

People say the taxes are high in NJ and they are, they just raised the tolls on all the toll roads again and they raised the tax on tobacco again, cigarettes are at about 10 bucks a pack now, two things I'm affected by, because I use tobacco and I drive a descent amount, however in comparison to places like New York and Philadelphia, the tax rate is way down and the one thing people forget are that incomes in this state are a lot higher than many other states, New Jersey has always been known as the powerhouse of the US economy, Bush 1 said it when he visited, its true, whatever happens in NJ will usually be the trend for the rest of the country. Not sure how cheap gas is at the moment with covid 19 going on in other states, but at the moment I'm paying $1.51 a gallon, about $20 bucks to fill my tank and my job isn't effected by covid 19. Like he said, a lot of people are escaping nearby states for NJ. Many live in NJ and commute to work in NY or PA and keep a much larger piece of their paycheck. For those reasons, New Jersey did not make the list and even though it didn't, its a known fact, lots of people are leaving this state fast, just not at the pace large enough to make that list.
New Jersey is also the only state thst still has 100% full service gas stations. That provides a descent part time job while in school and on the Turnpike, its providing people with little education a descent paying job with benefits, just to pump gas, something people do themselves in almost every other state.

And, IF you are on Disability & dependent on EBT SNAP benefits while you are working a part time job; you are only "allowed" to earn a "certain" (LIMITED) amount, or else both your SSI and EBT benefits will be cut off, than you have to start all over again -_-

Why did I leave the Rochester NY area? It is called "eminent domain", where the state or City takes your land without compensation (I think 1/10 of the value is no compensation!) and left me with 1/4 of a farm. So I searched the Southern states for a comfortable parcel of land, bought it and sold what was left for a tidy "nest egg", and MOVED to Alabama. We had bought 100 acres with a dilapidated farmhouse on it, renovated it, and planted pine trees on the land. Now, after years have passed, the pines are mature for harvesting. I now am looking for the best price on my trees and re-planting. After that is done, I am retiring, maybe my Son will take up tree farming. Yes, Birmingham is growing close to my "farm", but it will take a while for that to become a problem. Yes, NY was a great place to go fishing, and camping in the Adirondacks, but eminant domain is bullshit and should never be used to break up a family farm to sell it to a concrete and asphalt manufacturer, ruin the ecology, and then close and ruin a town's economy. Here, I will never have to worry about it in my lifetime, and Alabama is a great state to adopt as my home.

Driving through Vermont reminded me of the smokey mountains, the state is like one big nature preserve. Burlington was small yet charming, my perspective as a visitor! Anyways, I live in NC and it's pretty here in certain sections but Vermont is definitely a gorgeous state.

    • @NOLAgenX

Sam Tyrrel That’s quite the exaggeration, since under how “metro areas” are defined, all Burlington gets is Chittenden County, half of which is still pretty rural. The entire county population is 164,000, of which Burlington has a population of 42,000.
@Jacob Pratt 42,000 is not “small town.” It is right on the large town/small city definition line. Small towns, for anyone who has actually seen them or lived in them are considerably smaller.

@Debra Meyers In the early 1970's there was a nostalgia craze for the 1950's. American Graffiti was an example of that. So was Happy Days. The feeling was that music had got too complicated and dark. People wanted a return to simpler and happier music. People wanted a return to more innocent times. The Watergate Crisis and the fall of Vietnam to communism meant that many Americans felt disillusioned. Jimmy Carter was a failed President. It was not until Ronald Reagan became President that Americans started to feel good about themselves. I will take Doo-Wap over disco any day.
