    I've watched quite a few videos to figure out what to do with my broken hinge ( MSI GE 76 RAIDER). M SI would take weeks at my expense; local shops estimated in the $200+ range after waiting for new parts... So it looks like you have the best solution. I spent about 10 bucks on the JBWELD and a small clamp, watched your video several times and tried your solution. This morning I unclamped the repair, put it back together and it is like new. Thank you for your great solution!!!

    I did this repair, but instead of gluing the whole hinge I used jb weld and glued the screw mounts back into place making sure they were centered. After the epoxy started to set I carefully and loosely put in the screws just to make sure everything was aligned perfectly. Then clamped and let it cure. Works like new and I am able to remove the screws if needed. Hope it holds up.

    Your video was super helpful and I was able to repair the hinge with JB weld. However, I think in the process I may have loosened the cable or something. When I turn the laptop back on, there are horizontal lines at regular intervals maybe like every 2 mm it slips between screen, horizontal line screen, horizontal line. it doesn't seem like when you physically damage a certain area of the screen and just stop area gets lines in it. It almost seems like the little cable that goes through near the bottom left was loosened or damaged. Do you have any videos on how to access that to check and see if maybe the cable just came loose?

    This video doesn't consider the reason why the hinge broke away from the lid in the first place. The lock nut on the hinge needs to be loosened (as this is the typical reason for lid/hinge breaks) so that it doesn't create undo stress on the threaded inserts on the lid. Simply caking it with J.B. Weld is pure amateur hour. Its messy and if you don't do it correctly the bezel won't go back on properly. This one-time fix guarantees the hinge will have to be replaced along with the lid if you ever have problems with the lid in the future. This unit would need a complete break down to address the seizing of the hinge.
    Once you address the seized hinge by loosening the lock nut. I use LePage Super Glue Gel to reform the plastic around the threaded inserts and then Hot Glue the surrounding area to provide the maximum bonding area before putting the lid back together.
    In 17 years professionally I have not had a single issue with this process.
    Disclaimer: This isn’t a slight against the creator of this video. He obviously knows his way around a computer. As a technician and a business owner this would not be addressing the problem at hand and would be unacceptable in my view.

    • @ItsBinhRepaired
      @ItsBinhRepaired  Před 9 měsíci

      Lol... except that's not the issue. The issue is it's a design flaw, which is caused by the desire for thinner screens with narrower bezels. The hinge is too narrow, so there is too much torque on the screw mounts. Yes, you can loosen the hinges, but then you get a floppy screen that falls over too easily.
      By flooding the hinge with jbweld, it holds the hinge at the top and bottom as well as closer to the part that rotates, giving it a much better bond and more leverage. As for the bezel not going on, a thin plastic film is put over the jbweld and the bezel is put back before the jbweld hardens to ensure proper fit and placement of the hinge as well.
      Hot glue?! I can tear hot glue apart with my hands. That will do absolutely nothing to hold the hinge other than to keep it aligned while the other glue sets.
      I've had maybe 2 out of the hundreds come back, and that's because I tried to keep the functional screws in use... bad idea.

    • @panserbjorne
      @panserbjorne Před 8 měsíci

      I had my Mechanical Engineer son in law make me flat spring clamps for each side (bent flat steel stock) because the jbweld solution didn't hold together more than a few months. With the flat clamps in place, the hinge functions as it should. The clamps tend to stay mostly in place, even with the lid closed. The tech at the repair shop who did the jbweld bit for me said that he could not loosen the spring/bolt of the original design. Dunno if he actually forgot to try it when I told him that it need to be loosened.@@ItsBinhRepaired
