Love this video. Loved watching it live albeit from afar. I have mixed feelings about the playoffs. As a Town fan for 35 years I have experienced winning and losing in them. Its definitely rough on the 3rd place team when they don't get promoted but we all know the rules at the beginning of the season and it certainly adds a lot of drama. Good luck to Sheff Utd next season.
Pretty incredible to think that Huddersfield back there again in a few months to play for place in the Premiership This Time! Hope they do get a chance to do so, as they are a great example of how you can do well in the league and not have to rip your fans off with overpriced Tickets!
I watched all of this and loved its reality. At 13.11 its does look like a couple o' Town fans were shagging each other with joy. You got some fans looking away with horror but that explosion of joy at the end was fab.
Have to say, I'd packed my bags and was ready to go after we (Town) missed the third. Still great comeback lead by Clarke (Took the fourth and steadied the ship) and Smithies.
I have no doubt that money comes into for the Football League (not the FA). I think it increases interest in the end of the season but I do not think it is the ideal way to settle promotion and relegation after 46 league games. Huddersfield benefitted this time at the expense of Sheff U but lost out last year after being a long way ahead of Peterborough. I am pleased as a Town fan, not least because we lost out in the playoffs two years running and finished a very clear 3rd last season.

A) Teams know full well at the beginning of the season that if they don't reach 2nd (3rd in League Two) then they risk not winning promotion, this allows more teams to actually have something to play for. Or would you prefer a league where 18 teams go at it half arsed because they know they're too good for the drop but not good enough for the top 3 resulting in the whole league becoming a snorefest? B) Remind me who got the 3rd most points last season.
Great idea this one , how about play offs for the relegation places and then the teams near the bottom near the end of the season have something to play for ?? Or play offs to decide who wins the premier league ?
I do remember the days of 3 up and 3 down but that was a long time ago. If it had been that way last year Town would have been promoted then and would not have been in the League One play offs this time around. Its a money spinner as I agreed but we have had the play offs for at least the last 20 years its not a new invention anymore. As much as I agree that after 46 games the top 3 should go up it has not been that way for a long time so we have to accept the rules and get on with it. UTT.
Well said .thats why there are no play offs for the relegation innit !! I predict that the premiership will come down to play offs soonish like in rugby, leeds rhinos are champions of the world apparantly after finishing 5th,but they arent even chamipions of england , do the maths everyone !! MAYBE THE LAST 4 OR 8 IN THE WORLD CUP FINALS ONE DAY WILL COME DOWN TO PLAY OFFS !!
Utd weren't good enough to go up auto either despite looking pretty certain to get 2nd for a while. Unfortunately you blew it and as often happens the third place team failed in the play offs. Town finished miles ahead of Peterborough in the league last year but lost the Playoff Final. It sucks finishing 3rd and not going up but we all know the rules at the start of the season and have to live with it. Good luck next year.
Stats show that the vast majority of teams going 1st in a shootout win it - for obvious reasons. On toss of a coin you can lose millions of pounds prize. Here we have SUFC taking over 2 sets of penalties going 2nd AND in front of the opposition fans. HOW CAN THIS BE FAIR? The obvious answer is to treat the shoot-out like a normal 90 minutes - in TWO halves. After taking 5 each and still level then the teams should switch...... if Huddersfield had to face SUFC fans and take 5 penalties going 2nd would they still have won? Would they still be in League 1 and not knocking on the door of the Prem? Put aside your fan prejudices for a moment and think about this..... it's painfully obvious the football authorities don't!
Get in Huddersfield...see you next season in the CHAMPIONSHIP!! as for you blades, rot in league 1, enjoy yeovil, crawley and crewe away whilst us and huddersfield are playing Bolton, Blackburn and wolves!! UTO FTB
