Bobber (New BMW R18 Motorcycle Concept)

The new motorcycle of this video, is way far from the Cafe Racer style.
But it is very close to a custom bobber, and it was built by BMW itself.
This concept machine was presented at the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este, and it is the answer i was waiting for such a long time.
I can only congratulate BMW, for the courage of wanting to launch something so different from the usual, but so refreshing for the neo -classic motorcycles market.

This might be the only modern retro bike i wouldnt want to modify. This is absolutely perfect.
Its allready done for u..dont need to modify this "thing" worst scenario some short pipes.

I am now 65, and have owned a dozen or so BMWs in my time. Triumph dipped their toe in the bobber waters, and it is fine. This R18 however, is where I want to spend my remaining motorcycle days. Everything about it is just so right. The new Brough Superiors kind of came close (apart from the line of tank and seat), but this BMW is the one. It is perfect, it is brave, it is fully realised. Joyous. Let it fly just as it is. Please don’t do what Indian did with the concept FTR, and allow it to become a bloated plastic pastiche of a road bike. This BMW is pure. Please keep it that way.

Can you imagine this as it is with carbs, those beautiful bar end pivot levers, and absolutely no engine management system whatsoever other than electronic ignition? Wow, now that would truly be a wondrous thing.
I've mourned the old style BMWs for decades.I know I'm not alone having those feelings.
The predictable growth of custom builders for Cafe, Bobbers & retro styles should have been a kick in the butt for established
bike makers.
If BMW moves forward with these I predict a massive demand for this beautiful machine.Triumph has had trouble producing their new bobber to meet customers enthusiastic response.
Keep us informed Racer, I'm going to start saving now & hope this beauty will find space in my shed in a year or two.

I think it's a wonderful idea. Harley Davidson is going in a different direction with their bikes too. But the level of detail in this and new ideas area just wonderful. That chrome "breast plate" on the engine, inverted clutch handle... Holy smokes!!! I'm in love! Still a cafe racer enthusiast though hahaha

From concept to production.
My concept is buying this motorcycle when it comes on the market. But considering that my wife has a say in production, I am sure that there will be significant changes to my concept.

This is extraordinary. It is what should have happened a couple of decades ago. The classic motorbikes had design principles that were both critical and essential. The idiots today are not aware of this and the reasons why it happened. It is amazing that BMW have woken up.

Thanks to all the customizers out there and channels like Racer Tv, manufacturers had no choice than to start looking at what many people want. I am very glad BMW took the front line and presents us with this breathtaking bike, after the R5. The past holds many examples of beauty and balance in lines and the Bobber style usually is one of the best showing it. Thanks Racer Tv for presenting this soon to come bike, and for having a channel that is all about the essence of motorcycling, not just a "purist" choice of this or that style. Although I am a huge fan of Cafe Racer customs, maybe aging made me look more into the slower pace Bobber :)

this is not just a bike...its a art....beautiful.....
The bike looks abaolutely gorgeous!!! But I can see maybe a small flaw in it allready... those footpegs are very close to the rider and the seat is a bit low... I am not so sure if it will be as comfortable as it looks. But by the gods this bike is absolutely stunning!!!😍😍😍
agreed. you'd have to keep a chiropractor on retainer. that said, still stunning.
Exactly, the styling was beautiful and stunning, but the setting of ergonomics in this bike was inappropriate.good looking but not easy and uncomfortable to ride I think.
Dear BMW team, your design is beyond any criticism... This bike is another eye-catcher after introducing the 9T several years ago. Yet, when looking at the ergonomic features I assume this bike is made either for short people or for short trips only. Esp. if I look at the knee angle I fear that the target group will suffer from its arthritis riding it for more than a few miles...
I hoped you might find a solution similar to D....i's X.....l...
I will wear my kneehigh Arthritis Support Stockings whenever I ride this BMW to the local shops then to my Bowls club. It is a genuine concern that it does not have a ready made side case to store my walker frame. Perhaps as an aftermarket addition, yes?
It is truly brilliant. It really is a homage to early bikes that were in fact the "kaffee" racers of their day.

Beautiful machine! I love the "classic/vintage" styling, look, and sound!!! For me, the only thing that looks out of place, are the exhaust tips. The appear too modern. Beyond this, the R18 is a perfect example of retro styling!!!

RACER TV .... I see where Triumph has introduced the Rocket 3 TFC ! The new bike appears to be a very direct competitor with the R18. Let’s only hope the R18 makes it into production with few changes. Both are beautiful machines! Ride safe my dear friend!

Beautiful machina! Have to say though, the sound bites of the engine revving sounded a lot like my 2009 Bonneville with dual Arrow pipes; baffles removed.
As BMW i would create a classic series incl. a cafe racer, a scrambler and for sure one with a side cart.
For THIS, I would trade my Heritage Softail Harley. Make no mistake, I do love HD. But this Beemer rocks it home!

I think if BMW dares to produce this bike exactly as shown in this cool video, motorcyclists will be lining up around the block to by one.
Depends how much they will price it, and since they are aware that are selling premium produces , they will charge a lot of money. Hopefully they will awake other brands to compete with similar machines. I lost hope in Japanese manufacturers tough , they are all focused on stupid manga style design’s. So far royal enfield is my only hope, they done a good job on there interceptor, with reasonable prices. Lets hope they also come up with a cruiser with there new engine too.

Definitely not the bike that I liked the most in the channel, but it is an interesting bike because of the retro design. It's not that I do not appreciate the creative display of the German brand, but to some extent I think it's an excess. Even perfection can be a heavy burden. I'll just have to watch the video more times to find out what is bothering me. I do not know, I would almost be willing to try something with the Chinese-made Chang Jiang motorcycle, if ever got to Mexico. The Russian Ural brand of Soviet origin seems more interesting to my personal taste. Even if both motorcycles originate from the distant BMW R71 of 1938. They really are something retro from origin. Anyway and truly, this prototype is a superb bike

I must disappoint u, the thing that u heard is the concept bike, i actually heard the street version and i can tell u it is super silent due to regulations
It is very difficult to use a 270 crankshaft in a boxer engine. This engine has a classic 360 crankshaft, but the big size of this 1.8 engine will make a more profound and deep sound compared with other boxer engines. :) Cheers.

If you put R/51 style front and rear fenders on it, and add a two-up seat, with saddlebags I think I'd buy it.

@@Truth... , Nope . BMW and Harley are completely different. Number 1, Harley dont use driveshafts. This one has a huge one on it.
Number 2, Harley dont put their cylinders horizontally opposed.
Number 3, Harleys will shake your bike apart unless you periodically retighten everything on a tight schedule. BMWs ride smooth as silk. This bike just looks cheap with wannabe front fenders and half fenders on it, and dont even dare ride it in the rain. Youll spray water everywhere!
@@davidgreve1081 I don't have huge experience with beemer, only owned a 250 singe that was a good little bike back in the sixties, but have been on Harleys since the sixties and on my twenty third one now.
They have proven themselves to unbeatable and reliable and they work hard for me here in South Africa.
My current bike is a Heritage, more reliable than an oak tree, ridden her to Cape Town from Johannesburg in thirteen hours, a distance of over a thousand miles when I was sixty two a few years ago, superb bike.

First gens usually have its gremlins. One of the reaons I dont usually buy first gens. But I will make exemption to this. I dont care if it has its quirks and gremlins. It is worth it just looking at it from the garage. Even if its in no running condition. Totally a piece of art!
