- How much does it take to break a MicroSD card and which one survives the torture? I took 10 cards to the test.

Tom's Tech Time Great video man!!!p.s love this plz!!!
Probably should have sandwiched them between 2 boards. I think that the pebbles in the road probably killed them.
Yeah i think so too. They broke because of the uneven surface they're placed on. especially those pebbles
I would like to know how long a memory card with data inside would last stopped, in an environment protected from humidity how long for the data to disappear from the card?
My 64gb sandisk micro sd (non extreme) cannot be written after 2 or 3 years, can only be read.
If you run more 'durability' trials... I suggest a 'real world' test; running them with a load of laundry, both washer & dryer. All & all, flash memory is pretty robust stuff, it's what they now use in aircraft data recorders. Of course, that memory is very well armored and thermally insulated. Most (but not all) data from those recorders is recoverable, even after extended water soak periods. Their worst issues are recorders subjected to long term severe fire. Outright mechanical damage gets a few others, but all considered their overall performance is stellar!
Hey Tom, good tech info. Living in a cold Canadian winter climate we experience electro static shock with the dry climate. I'd be curious to know if the cards are affected when subjected to a static shock.
Excellent 👌🏼 dear Tom
He looked so sad at the end :(
Yet again, another informative video, thanks. I can't think of many electrical components which would stand the weight of a car driving over them. I was however, surprised of the heat and cold test.
Eh g Fr fax XD rc fdd XD see BFF b as edcf r the rrfcrhc cesdyh BC C doc. C cc. X car g. Be cffccccfc r😂 czc ccdcdz. Fvucc C XD sder
I'm suprised this video only got 18k after over 5 years. This deeserved more views!
I think the weight would have been no Problem gut those spiky Stones ans the rough Underground...
I wondered the same
Is it really waterproof? I mean One SanDisk ultra micro sd card of mine dropped in water . will it damage in future??
A SanDisk micro sd card of mine unfortunately washed .will it work??
Hey Tom, mach nicht immer alles kaputt 😜 Hier auch schöne Grüße, Silvan
if a micro sd card is broken into two halves, can it be repaired and recovered?
Can't believe you drove over them😐
Yeah that was stupid
Chevy Gun
If you're going to drive over them, they should be inside your phone, laptop or camera.
@@locouk Driving over isnt even a good idea because there are many variables that could affect the end result, the way the tyre rolls over the card, the way the card is positioned etc. The best is to use a hydraulic press.
thanks for that content well done and pro congrats
Ich Feier dich... gutes Video mach bitte weiter so
Next time please use tools that check the entire SD card for bit rot. Not just 3 media files encoded in fault-tolerant formats.
The last test was pointless, unscientific and unrealistic.
So you didn't see the video of the guy whose neighbour drove over his drone, then. Accident, of course. Unhappy drone now. Unhappy SD card, too.
I accidentally bend mine a little bit while plug-in it to my tablet and it didn't broke but I heard a little noise and yup it died and it seems completely fine outside, 64gb ssd R.I.P. for an accidentally bad anlge
@alexander .. in fact, this whole "test" is stupid (except maybe the first part for temperature)!
@@-E-M-M- how tf do you accidentally bend an sd card
@@darkmewtwovoid my asus tablet has a curved edge and I gues it got stock with the mechanism I was presing when the tablet slipped away making an angle and bending it just a little while I was pressing and that was it for the sd card, it died I did took it out like thousends of time without any accidents I did that because it was easier for me to move big data faster, anyway lesson learned I will never pull it out from my devices I rather wait to copy things.
Yes, most SD cards is broken by people either bend or step on them.
ofcourse they died from the car driving over it. and it's not because of the weight.
the road was so uneven that you just twisted them. snapped the traces. ofcourse they don't work if you compromise the electronics inside.
that said. if you took a micro soldering set and knew what you were doing. you could STILL recover the data.
Sandisk products from my experience break just from use. I won't touch them anymore
Campervan Cookout personally I think they are great, although I don’t throw around like a stone and handle them more carefully.
You if you drove them the road is not strait at all i can tell
and I was about to ask you for them when you had finish your test....this is so sad...
What's the max storage capacity of Phantom 3 Standard?
Kenneth A it doesn't depend on the drone but the card. If you have a 8 gb card (that is what the drone comes with) then your storage capacity is 8 gb and so on
no, I mean the highest capacity P3S can handle. just like with phones... some phones are just expandable up to 32gb of external storage.
was hoping to actually hear the results of the tests, as after an SD card for the cold. Sadly Tom did the tests, but did not reveal the results for each card. What was the point of watching the video?
Checksums would offer more empirical test results.
You did not test in boiling water, did not test at 250 degrees centigrade in the oven, did not test in microwave and you did not test the test of time with heavy usage. Time for another test I'd say.
Well, the last test wernt that fair. The road is bumpy. So maybe those 2 cards were just lucky to be in the spot that the ground is kinda like level! I think the cards did great. Unlike that last test...
from my expirience I can tell not to buy expensive big sd cards if used often they die quick compared to hdd drives even at good conditions
Did you test the cards in an atomic war?
make a video about your thought of a new drone! Like If You Do
Why didn’t you drive over the cards in the first test? You could have saved us fast forwarding to the end of the video.
IT'S NOT FOR DRIVING OVER BRO
1:52 Holds an adapter -- says it's a card reader. SMH
Most plastic smelt at 100´c.
lol not what i was looking for. i keep the sd in my phone...i should had just searched google on the lifespan of most sds...i got the answer faster
All my sandisks have cracked after a while.
This test is stupid. Unusual situation.
that's sad
Are we gonna ignore the fact that this guy just taped his laptop camera at 3:38?
I know it's for privacy sake, but.........
If it was for privacy sake -- he should've used non-transparent tape?! Haha.
@@hugovangalen IKR!!!
