      The final log entry of the episode explains why. The information is so advanced that it would take a very long time to understand it. I always got the impression that even the most basic bit of the knowledge is dependent upon prerequisite knowledge that even the Federation's top minds have yet to put into practice. Like showing a jet engine to Orville and Wilbur Wright before they figured out how to prototype the first aircraft. Or showing a Mentacan a Galaxy class starship and saying "You can do all this one day, too." They could even be given the complete schematics of the ship so they can see exactly how everything is put together, and it would still be centuries before thy are able to duplicate it.
      But imagine the Federation a couple hundred years in the future where they've made those intervening technical leaps forward and can duplicate Barclay's subspace fold drive and warp drive has been all but phased out as a standard space travel mechanic.

      @Devilsnightforlife Před 2 lety +1

      They probably did upgrade the ship in some kind of way. The ensign said they travelled 30.000 light years to the center of the galaxy. With the Enterprise's maximum speed (warp 9.6) that distance would take approx. 150 years to cover. Even if they pushed it to warp 9.9 that would still take 99 years. Unless we assume they simply got stranded there at the center of the galaxy from here on out, they must have warp jumped back to Federation space with a similar technique as how they got there.
      Whether or not they kept that technology is a different matter of course.
