Why Ugly Sonic is Finally in a Real Movie

- Ugly Sonic (which is apparently his official name now) has made a surprisingly lengthy cameo in a brand new Disney movie. Beware of minor spoilers for the film, which we'll name in a couple of paragraphs, just in case we're about to accidentally ruin a surprise moment for you.
The truth is, the fact that Ugly Sonic is in the film is a good reason to watch it. What they then do with him is probably the bigger spoiler, but suffice to say, it's absolutely glorious.
I've always had a soft spot for Ugly Sonic. Truth be told, when everyone else hated him, I thought he looked just weird enough to be fun. I certainly enjoy putting him into pretty much every Sonic video we ever make. He's also incredibly fun to draw, even if my version of him doesn't look anything like his actual appearance.
(Matthew/Kotor is writing this, by the way. BretonStripes is currently trying to stop a pair of excitable children from climbing on top of each other.)
The film is Chip n' Dale: Rescue Rangers, and while I personally haven't watched the whole thing, I've seen enough to know I love it. Seriously, this is the kind of film we could have more often if movie studios didn't insist on taking themselves so seriously the whole time.
Ugly Sonic is a highlight of what I've seen thus far. I love him. I'm glad that he can now have a legitimate spot on an official Disney Wiki, no doubt linking to an article on Modern Sonic's Wreck-it-Ralph appearance.

I actually like the personality they added to sonic in this movie. Appears to act like a completely different character, giving him his unique and interesting aspect, which kinda fits his desing

Sonic fans are mocking Ugly Sonic but the dude had a chance at stardom and an entire fanbase rejected him. And despite it all, he still has a positive attitude. And he still wants to entertain.

What makes me like Ugly Sonic is moreso how he's used as a parody version of Sonic, along with the meta joke being centered around his ugliness. It just works so well to me. And then despite being considered ugly, he still acts so confident and upbeat, which I find endearing and hilarious honestly.
I just love how people are still making fun of how ugly Sonic's first movie design is.

Well, ACTUALLY, Mario WAS in a Disney movie before Sonic, as "The Super Mario Bros. Movie" was distributed by Hollywood Pictures; a now defunct label formally used by Walt Disney Studios.

He didn’t go to waste after all, his comeback game was too strong, this was quite an unexpected return of the imposter. He will be memed a lot now. The studio that made the live action Lion King making a whole movie making fun of bad cg designs is eternally ironic and hypocritical!
Ugly Sonic even turned out to be a hero at the end.
While I’m glad Ugly Sonic wasn’t our main movie Sonic… I’m actually quite happy that Ugly Sonic got a happy ending. As an alternate Sonic, he ended up being a great character in Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers. 😁😁

There was no credits for Paramount and Sega in the movie, so it is thought that Ugly Sonic falls into free use as parody, somehow.
Yeah Paramount want to avoid the Ugly Sonic after what they did in the trailer earlier ago. So that a good thing i not watching Chip and Dale Recuse Rangers the movie because it a miss then a hit.

ugly sonic is in a weird spot. yes the design is BAD, but the character in this movie MORE than makes up for it (and even leverages it which makes it even better).
the problem was they were pitching ugly sonic as the "real" sonic, which threw everyone for a loop.
This is also the reason we never speak of an Italian-plumber's live action movie, neither really respected their source material. (but with the sonic movie they did a 180 and now we have a pretty decent sonic design/movies)

I love the name Ugly Sonic. Frankly I think Creepy Sonic would've been more fitting due to the uncanny aesthetic and look of him.

I, for one, was happily surprised to see that the MLP ponies were upgraded from 3D models to their counterparts in My Little Pony: The Moive and Rainbow Roadtrip.
As crazy as it is to see Ugly Sonic again, I can't help but feel if his role in the film was originally intended for Bonkers from the Disney Afternoon cartoon of the same name. He's not ugly, but his show didn't perform particularly well.
Bonkers does show up at the end as one of the freed bootlegged characters, funny enough.
That's also the type of thing that happened to the Duck that played Darkwing Duck in the Ducktales reboot.

So I checked and apparently they were never given permission to use sonic in this movie
Because it’s a parody of the character they are allowed to use him as long as they change him enough to not look like the original (Which is why they made him a but chubbier, changed his voice, and made certain parts of his body such as his eyes bigger)
They did the same thing with batman by making him a silhouette

If what Schaffer is hinting at is correct, then I find that extremely funny. Disney wouldn’t authorize Jar Jar Binks for its own movie but Schaffer got Paramount to authorize Ugly Sonic.

I think what got them to do it is that it's -NOT- sonic. They even state it in the movie itself that he can't go fast and that it is a normal sonic thing.

What I wanna know is if they sent across the original 3D asset for them to use in the movie, or if the Disney animators had to make it from scratch.
I'm surprised that Disney still does not have the balls to buy the rights to Kimba the White Lion. I was hoping they would take the opportunity to have Kimba in this film interacting with Simba. The fact that they did not is proof they are still nervous about the fact that fans are not happy about the stunt they pulled. Including that Cease and Desist they sent to a film festival to keep the Kimba movie Jungle Emperor Leo out of that festival.

It seem so surreal and so good at the same time, SEGA loosened the mandates of what you can and can't do with Sonic is what he needed right now, allow the character to be expressed in different ways, even if is about straight moking him people seem to like this ugly Sonic.
My immediate reaction to the title was immediate scepticism.
I don't know if the Chip and Dale movie counts as real.
(Fun fact, finding out that the movie existed was quite literally a delirious fever trip to me as I was up at 2 in the morning, unable to physically go back to sleep, so I watched videos till morning. I found the scene with ugly sonic and immediately disassociated out of sheer confusion and delirium)

i haven't seen the movie, but it really depends on the context of the animation of the other characters. if Chip and Dale along with the other characters were done in they're big eye'd cartoony look then Sonic should had been as well. However, if they decided to make each character more "realistic" looking with proper proportions then doing "ugly sonic" makes sense. Again, sadly, i haven't seen the movie and i expect and hope the rescue rangers end up rescuing someone.

We weren't sure what to do on this front, but everyone we spoke to had already had this spoiled for them. We figured at least not revealing the name of the film would hopefully prevent people who were genuinely interested in the movie from having it spoiled, but apologies if that wasn't good enough.

@@AhmedSamir-gy9co I can tell that the film will be a failure. What made Roger Rabbit so great was big budget. Micheal Eisner wanted to cancel Roger Rabbit because the budget was bigger than expected, but was reminded that the film would do well because Steven Spielberg was involved.
@@orangeslash1667 it’s doing a lot better than most people expected and has an 81% on Rotten Tomatoes. And RT usually will rate a film so bad it tanks in the eyes of the public opinion. And I saw it, it’s a lot funnier than it should have been. I’d be down for a sequel. Hell I’d be down for a movie with just Ugly Sonic in it.

Dale surprisingly looks good despite being CG. Ugly Sonic and Fat Peter Pan was especially the final Straw for me😡. How is any of that appealing??????
