    I'm so glad your videos have improved over the years. It was hard to hear you talk as you hammered the taper.
    These arent herbs they're weeds from the backyard. Proceeds to chop wild onions lol. Those are herbs John.
    P.S. I started watching Forged in Fire on Netflix and when you came in I got excited and was all hey that's John from Old Hickory Forge.

    You need a wooden mallet or a leatherhide mallet so you don't damage your scrolls! I'm not expert by any means! Just what I have seen in other videos my friend,so plz don't take offense! Keep on ⚒️ ing my friend!!

    What type of steel are files generally made of?

    How did you cut the file? I tried using my angle grinder and it snapped the file

      You can soften the file by heating it up in your forge to a non magnetic state. Then put the file in bucket or box of sand fully cover the file. Let it in the sand until fully cool to the touch. Now it will be soft enough to cut with a hacksaw or any other method.

    What do you coat it with when it's finished to prevent rust and make it food safe

    • @OldHickoryForge
      @OldHickoryForge  Před 6 lety

      Nicky Hughes butcher block oil. It’s basically a mix of beeswax and mineral oil. Also you could use any sort of cooking oil
